Dedryck after his MVP performance and Craig

1282

Appropriate appreciation is due to Dedryk Boyata for his MVP performance on Wednesday. He scored the goal that won the points, could have scored more and made the most impressive defensive intervention of the game.

If scouts were in the Celtic Park stand watching, he did all he could to entice an offer, but a sample size of one game is not enough to validate a change in form for me.

Brendan has a big selection decision to make for Hearts on Sunday. You could argue he’s got the best from Patrick Roberts by bringing him on as a substitute in Celtic’s last four games, the most recent three of which the player considerably lifted the Celtic performance. Patrick will be wondering what he needs to do to get a start.

Chelsea want to sign Craig Gordon? No surprise there, they did sign Magnus Hedman a year after he left Celtic, after all. Craig is playing well and a reliable cog in an effective defensive wheel. But you know me. This far off the qualifiers, it’s all about the price as far as I’m concerned.

Everyone has a price, to think otherwise is to deny the future exists.

Choked with the cold but should make it to CP.

I know our run of not just unbeaten games but wins must come to an end so I am wary these days – we have since the League Cup final won quite a few games by a single goal and often do just enough to win. But looking at last Wednesday”s game we do create a lot of chances. Hopefully we will not spurn so many chances today – Paddy to start maybe and Leigh too perhaps.

    Hi Ghuys.. Last Post, Honest.

    Just a reminder..

“At the Champions League match with Hapoel Beer Sheva on 17 August 2016, the Green Brigade and fans throughout Celtic Park flew the flag for Palestine. This act of solidarity has earned Celtic respect and acclaim throughout the world. It has also attracted a disciplinary charge from UEFA, which deems the Palestinian flag to be an ‘illicit banner’.

In response to this petty and politically partisan act by European football’s governing body we are determined to make a positive contribution to the game and today launch a campaign to #matchthefineforpalestine. We aim to raise £15,000* which will be split 50/50 between Medical Aid Palestine (MAP) and to the Lajee Centre, a Palestinian creative cultural children’s centre in Aida Refugee Camp, Bethlehem”.

We all know that we, the Celtic Supporters, raised 10 times this amount.

The presentation of the cheque, along with some guest speakers, will be made on Sunday at 12.00 before the game with Hearts on the Celtic Way.

Come along, hear the story and be part of the celebration that makes us so different from any Supporters in the World.

Lets take some credit and enjoy the moment

    Hail Hail.

I’ll be on the Celtic Way later for the presentation at 12pm to the Palestine charities with a spare season card in my wallet. I don’t have an internet phone and no facebook or twitter presence.

Spot a big bloke wearing a green starry plough cap which has a green five-pointed star pinned to it, then say to me, “you’re guyfawkes and I claim my lift over the turnstyles”. You’ll be welcome.

    ——————————————————–

All good luck to the Celts today. Expect this to be testing, I hope we blitz it early with Leigh Griffiths leading the line.

  9. Up for a quick lavvy visit at 2am here, after a metal day with two top, but absolutely mental Albanians on the Strip. The blootered Albanians intended to make their way to the airport to join in the protests going on nation wide. In my state that was a short cut to spending an evening at the convienience of the Sherrif’s Dept, so I shot the crow away hame.

Three genteel, posh Arsenal fans will never take the liberty to sneer at Celtic’s status in football again… :-)

Right, away back tae ma scratcher for a couple of hours before watching us run rings around the diets.

Great read – so much respect for oor Tommy!

Way back in the 70’s I joined Eastercraigs as a coach not long after Tommy had left them (if you’ve seen Tommy’s video the first guy on at the start is Ian Stevenson, the Eastercraigs founder). Anyway a couple of years later we are over in the north of France playing in one of these European tournies that were common then and this guy from the host club comes up and asks me “How’s the Red Flea getting on? What a wonderful player.”

Yep, the legend of Tommy Burns was growing even then. Apparently a few years earlier he had played in an under-14 tournie and was voted the Player of the Tournament (and earned the nickname the Red Flea because no one could catch him.)

  13. Emerald Bee

I was loaned copies of European Youth Cup tournament programmes for both 1974 and 1975, in which both Celtic BC and Eastercraigs participated. I will ring them with me today to the CQN corner if you wish to have a look at them.

Unfortunately, I need to return them to their owner soon so I could get someone to scan a copy for you if you are interested.

I will try to get there around 12.30 or so today

  14. Interesting comments from Brendan in the Scotsman. Wonder where it places the so-called revolution which sidelined Peter Lawwell:-

“Yet he is sanguine and non-accusatory about an inability to close other deals. “[My squad] won’t be as I want it, I don’t think, by the end of the window,” said Rodgers. “If we don’t get the players that I would want through not being available, then OK. I’m happy with the players in the squad that we have. I’ll just have to wait until the summer in order to do the next bit. “It’s through no fault of the club. This window is always tough. I won’t just bring in anyone. It has to be a player who’s going to improve our squad. If that isn’t available, for whatever reason, then there’s not much you can do. It’s not Football Manager on the computer, where you just pull them out and transfer them. It’s a wee bit more than that. So if it doesn’t happen, OK. I’d want it to but if it doesn’t, we just have to wait and be patient.”

  15. Hello again all you young rebels.

    YEEEESSS!… Really!… Yur winding us up papa!….waaoow!

Just a sample of the reactions we got from the wee mhan

and his bestie when we told them we got them signed up

for the Celtic academy here in Oz, thanks again to BMCUW

for the info otherwise we would never have known anything

about it, but thanks to a little help from the Celtic family we

    got them fixed up.

Now i have to try and bring the two of them down to earth

as they are as high as kites, so i said to them.

” you do know you have not signed for Celtic it’s just a

    training program ‘

” A know papa but we might win a scholarship at Celtic park ”

” well there’s always a chance wee mhan but you are going to

be up against some seriously good football players ”

Trying to play it down a bit now.

A know but there’s a chance so it’s up tae us innit?

Love it , if nothing else it gets them motivated for next season

and the two of them are training like beasts ,so much so that

even the young aussie girls who follow them about as soon as

they see the hoops like wide eyed puppy dogs are being given

a body swerve, never thought i’d see that.

Really felt for our other African hoopies who would have been

there in a heartbeat but finance made it impossible for them

but they were so happy for our bhoys.

The academy is regional and is up in the old goldfields of

Ballarat which is over two hours from us can’t understand why

not Melbourne with all it’s sport facilities but the bhoys said

they would walk it if they had to so it’s now turned into a bhoys

camping and soccer week, things you do for the love of Celtic

mind you i might have to do a bit of panhandling for gold up

there to pay for it all.

  16. Emeraldbee- I was in Holland playing football for the fire brigade in early 80s, Celtic played a tournament in Nijmegan a few weeks earlier, a few of the boys we were playing against, were raving about a guy with the red hair…..TB RIP

Biggest bigot /racist / raving anti catholic wasp I’ve encountered was an Everton fan from middle class Belfast .Fondly remember him telling Faithless me that I was destined for the Burning Fire ——–the faithless being even lower on the sinners scale than Catholics .My goose was totally cooked when my mother bearing a number and some letters on her left arm came to visit me in the Hall of Residence I was forced to share with the likes of him between October and December 68 ..

The Deady Bears v Fiorentina .

My Dad took me that game — an opportunity to see a very good team and the great Kurt Hamrin A memorable experience — blootered Huns bellowing wowee sectarian abuse in between fighting with each other as Fiorentina exposed how absurd their notions of superiority were . Later on, several Italian businesses were attacked by raving Hun bigots.
