Defensive shape not right

482

Penny for the thoughts of Erik Sviatchenko on Saturday as he watched the defence he’ll soon become part of. Players were skipping past Jozo Simunovic while we had Keystone Cops defending from Efe at a corner kick (our problems here are clearly not resolved).

St Johnstone failed to score during their previous five games but would have scored more against a generous Celtic were it not for some fine work by Craig Gordon.

Individual errors aside, there are aspects of our shape I’m not happy with. In previous times you wouldn’t know if the Celtic defence and keeper were having a good game, they were so well protected. In the Premiership, this makes for entertaining football as we march to the title, but at a higher level we’ll be ripped open.

There’s not a proper defensive midfielder at the club. If we’re going to keep to this shape, we’ll need one before August.

  1. I don’t like Hampden. Hopefully it’s Fir Park.

Wouldn’t be surprised if we end up playing at the Asbestos Dome

    Mr Zimmermans change in direction!

I was in the Odeon when after playing the first set in acoustic he proceeded to set up electric guitar. Full house of booing (all us folkies) ” the old Bob Dylan is dead, this is the new Bob Dylan”.

His backing group “The Band” said “for a year (or 2) we got booed every night. Still buy his stuff, Legend

I think it might be to do with their kindness towards Wee Jay. Maybe because my sister used to live there.Maybe because they play in Hoops is a factor! Also, I have often felt their supporters quite like us.

In a nutshell, though, I am simply not sure why I do! We can have a soft spot for some teams for the smallest of reasons. I also like Fiorentina but I don`t know why 0:-)

If sfa abide by there own rules (which they don’t always do), it’ll be Hampden as its next closest to K Park

  5. Sorry to hear about the death on John Dowie. Sincere condolences to his family. I was actually at Ibrox when he made his debut. We were 2 – 0 up at half-time and lost 3 – 2. Still hurts.

The Hamilton statement indicates annoyance. This is quite a strange situation.

PS Wouldn`t it be fun if the SFA try to foist Ibrox onto EK ! More money for `their` team, of course.

  9. I admit, it’s strange that Hamilton didn’t immediately sort this out.

    Maybe they want more money?

  10. I assume that Hamilton are pissed off that EK were turning their noses up at playing at New Douglas Park and have taken the huff. Also wouldn’t be surprised if the SFA didn’t actually ask them if their pitch was available for the game.

Even amateur football associations wouldn’t make such a huge basic mistake as the SFA have just perpetrated.

If the SFA board ( which includes our CEO Peter Lawwell ) have oversight of the management of the SFA, what has to happen for the Chief Executive and his management team to be called to account for their record of mismanagement and maladministration over recent years?

Answers on a postcard please …

  13. To me it seems like Celtic and/or EK have had a quiet word with Acciess and said something along the lines of ‘any chance you could say your stadium is not available’. Celtic seem to have a good working relationship with Acciess. Fair play to them.

Gotta laugh at the SFA all the same.

Your reminiscences on Bob going electric brought to mind Neil Young who was once touring his new album.

He started the set with all new material, the crowd got restless , shouts for the old hits grew louder and louder.

Neil doesn’t do things to order he then asked the audience to allow the band to play the new album material

” and then I’ll play something you’ve heard before”

audience settled down impatiently (but quietly ) and listened to the new stuff….

after he had finished playing the entire new album

he played all his new stuff a second time

    Hebcelt,

EK have been making announcements about their supporters getting forst crack at tickets and advising the away support to let the know how many tickets they want, so I doubt they knew anything about what is or was going on and would be within their right to make a formal complaint about the SFA shambles.

That last statement is easily the most inflammatory thing written on this blog. Would certainly see blood spilled in our house.

Lionroars, unfortunately for your son to follow up with a complaint requires him to be put in a position of further police intimidation as they will ask to visit your home in full uniform for further details. If it was me I would release the clip, blanking out the Tims faces and let the wider world see how our public servants treat our young people.

have to agree with having a wee bit of the devil in the team, I believe Broonie gives us that. Not like the old days of the Lions, where most footballers could handle themselves or sort it out so to speak

  26. P67, Efe Ambrose is the defensive midfielder we need, and already have.

I’ve harped on about it for ages.

He’s not capable of quick enough decision-making to be given a centre half role – the last-man responsibility weighs on him too much and he blunders with nobody to cover; e.g see Fenerbache.

But he has an engine, can handle himself, has timing in the tackle, agility and height, pace, an eagerness to compete and proven international-level ability.

Playing him in front of a back four nullifes his great indecisive weakness, allowing cover behind for mistakes that most midfielders make.

I can’t see anything but positivity in using him there. But I don’t expect Ronny Deila to do it. Wood for trees and all that.
