Dilemma of youth development

1406

I know squad numbers are limited but I’m disappointed Eoghan O’Connell has not been retained. In his performances early last season he displayed the attributes of a modern-day footballing central defender. He has a future in the game and will do well wherever he goes next.

The perennial dilemma of youth development is that while teams want to improve performances NOW, they also need to leave space for worthy development squad candidates to grow into. Kieran Tierney got there, but the truth is, Celtic had been trying to sign a left back for year but were unable find anyone of the necessary standard. If we did, Kieran, Eoghan, would never have had the chance.

I’m with the sfa bigot on this one, I dont want a treble next season.

I want to add a European trophy to it and go for a quadruple.

Ive been saying the same about SA all week, and took pelters for it, however, i was right.

One season cannot make you a superstar, you have to do it over a period of time.

As for my wonderful wee Leigh Griff……If Messi or Ronaldo had scored that free kick double, the wholw world would be talking about it.

That bhoy is worth a few quid, no mistake.

What a striker to have, he is lethal.

    Cmon wee man:)

    “Portuguese men o war”,

Dont they get enough penalties as it is.

  5. Just looking at the new Galactico supposedly joining the Huns tomorrow.Daniel Candeias.

As usual, the SMSM class him as a “Portugese international”Well he has played at under 21s.

His stellar record so far,is 9 loans and a free transfer.

  6. Cant be that many left pegs in the game better than the Griff. Some of his goals have been incredible.I remember when he signed for us,there was a video of his Hibees goals. Many were fantastic left foot finishes.

His work rate and link up play yesterday, especially in the second half when we were more forward, was terrific. No way will he be going anywhere.

  7. All Parties in Ireland including Sinn Féin & the DUP are against a hard Border.

It is the only one thing that everyone has in common.

  8. THE GREEN MAN SAYS SACK THE BOARD on 11TH JUNE 2017 10:03 AM

I just can’t see how it’s going to work.

The one thing the DUP are going to insist on is an open border. That immediately closes down a whole area of negotiation over Brexit and alienates the hard right of the Tory party, and that’s just the start of it.

There’s going to be complete political stagnation until there’s another election, and the last thing the Tories want at the moment is another election.

  9. Apart from his comments being those of a bigot, this guy is President of the SFA.Taking the bigot bit out,you would think that having a strong, used lightly,Celtic, supplying more than half of the national team with better class players would delight him,but no.He wants a Hun team full of Portugese, and Mexicans up there.

Good for Scottish football,my suntanned derriere.

  10. Unless of course they ditch the 2indy and concentrate on what voting Tory in Scotland represents por cierto

I can only see another election.

They wont be able to bluff this for long….maybe three months tops.

The DUP are hated, its like jumping into bed with the rednecks from ‘Deliverance’:)

The kids run social media…newspapers dont matter to them, so the right-wing press are fecked.

That hope that is driving our kids….will bring change soon, of that ive no doubt.

These kids remind me off my younger days, when there was some solidarity.

I don’t think the SNP would like another quick election either

    ###

They’re in a difficult place right now and it looks like the iron clad party discipline has broken down. It was bound to happen. Calls for Murrell to be replaced by Robertson and for Sturgeon to go.

The Tory votes that have sustained them for decades have returned whence they came just when Labour under Corbyn are offering a choice for their left of centre voters.

It’s hard to see where they go from here.

  13. Stuart Armstrong,

    Champions League starts – 2

    International caps – 2

    Lots to learn.

  14. Bizarr and karmice how the Unionists on here have possibly ended up with the DUP at the Cabinet Table.

Sinn Féin have a stated position not to take any seat in Westminster. The nationalist population in the Six Counties supported that position in the Polling Booths last week.

It would now appear that given the re-emergence of the Tories in Scotland and the militant Loyalist moving into Downing Street the Unionists on here are ‘turning their guns’ on the Nationalist folk of the Six Counties and their right to elect politicians who do not attend Westminster.

To put it bluntly a minority Tory administration propped up by the DUP was always a possibility and that’s the reality of the UK.

Good Luck with Theresa, Boris and Arlene.

Kind of a similar to the 30 pieces of silver deal the Plc have with Scottish football’s administrators.

    Duty calls.

  15. I think the general UK position pre Election was the need for a soft Border.

However if push came to shove I’m not sure it would have been an absolute priority.

With the DUP on board it will become much more of a Priority but having said that these Neanderthals can be bought off.

It will be very interesting also to see how negotiations re restoration of NI Assembly proceeds.

If the DUP had any sense they would make a few concessions to get it over the line.

However that is not their nature, they were born into a Hun Supremacist mindset. If they use their current “advantageous position to play Hard Ball with Republicans, we could see a return to street violence & if that starts, some of the splinter groups could bring guns back on the streets.

To be honest, I don’t expect that to happen, it’s a time for calm heads & a wait & see attitude.

I expect a new Tory Leader within months & a new Election in 2018.

  16. The Green Man says SACK THE Board on

This DUP bigot mob are hunbelievable.

Ive been reading some of their quotes and political positions.

Sammy Wilson…..FFS, that man is demented

It’s up to SF whether they take up their seats or not.

But their reasons for not doing so look increasingly anachronistic. To be completely honest they look a bit tokenistic, when so many other issues, issues of substance, that would at one time have been utterly abhorrent, are now accepted without demur.

Amazing the political turnaround in the last few months.

We could actually see a (real) Labour government.

A turnaround in the SNP’s 35 seats are fundamental to that aim.

Quite a few of the Tory gains were achieved by former Labour voters still adhering to SNP.

  22. Ernie,

“clearly nationalism in the north has turned it’s back on Westminster”

    Gerry Adams.

Didn’t this fiasco start with David Cameron’s insanity in calling the Referendum on Europe and the lacklustre campaign to ‘Remain’.

The Tories had no idea of the enormity of the upheaval an Exit Vote would bring.

Cameron previously offered the Scots an outer with the Independence Referendum and true to form we couldn’t agree and Voted to Remain.

The Unionist vote in Scotland is now on the up and England doesn’t seem to know what it wants.

So to save us from the insanity of the DUP/UDA at the Cabinet Table we/you are now putting pressure on Sinn Féin to ditch her electoral pledges.

The next thing the Unionists will try is to convince us that the Sinn Féin must take up their seats to save the UK from a democratically elected (minority) government.

Sinn Féin do not accept Westminster’s unwelcome interference in Irish affairs.

Let’s see how the CQN unionists enjoy having the DUP make their laws.

  23. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

My thought is the Tory/DUP alliance needs to stew a while. Still some time needed for Labour to gather enough strength in England to ensure election.

  24. Greenpinata,

  27. An SFA president interested in the well being of Scottish football would have said: We need other teams to improve and provide a more competitive League.

He, however, only wants `Rangers` to improve. So, he believes that the answer is to have a league dominated by two teams rather than just the one?
