Dirty battle between SFA and SPFL

803

The SFA put on a show yesterday, providing boxing and snooker promoter, Barry Hearn, with a stage to take aim at the SPFL.  I would urge caution when digesting Hearn’s words.  He took aim at some easy sounding targets, for example, the league not having a sponsor, but the league don’t have a sponsor by choice.

The alternative choice would be to sell the rights for a value considerably less than the old SPL’s rights.  The league took the view that they would rather maintain their asking price, and go to market when the league is in a more competitive position.  This may, or may not, be a wise decision, we don’t know, and neither does Barry Hearn.

He also talked about making money by selling fights between low-quality but committed boxers at £150 per ticket.  Good for him.  This kind of sport, and his auditorium-filled darts, may well have a bright future, but it’s not the direction Scottish football should be heading.

The backdrop to all of this is what’s going on at Hampden.  There is a power-struggle between the SFA and the SPFL.  The latter are more likely to deliver radical change, the former want to maintain control, privilege and the bowling committee-type structure which has lasted for over a century.

Can you imagine how inadequate the SFA would appear if the SPFL held a similar forum, with an invited guest there to poke fun at the SFA president’s EBT and “heavily conflicted” past?  If the Association are trying to clip the league’s wings I suspect they will fail.  It’s more likely the SPFL will redouble their efforts to bring structural reform to our game.

This has become a dirty battle.

Some great fun at Celtic Park last night, it was like the old days, you know, when John Greig was manager at Ibrox.

Remember, Joe Miller, tonight, at Waterstones, Stirling, from 5pm. Signing copies of Caesar and the Assassin, bring your camera.

The 2015 CQN Annual is through design and ready to ship next week. You can pre-order yours now.

I bought some when driving in France last year, you are required to carry them there.

    If in doubt use them.

It’s a good debate, I’d hate to think I was driving in the morning when over the limit.

The fortnight delay is not to consider the actual verdict but to work out how to present it, perhaps.

  5. On the Tonev case – sorry but it makes me so angry.

Imagine he signed for any other club in Scotland and was accused of the same thing? Would the there is no evidence whatsoever but we find you guilty verdict have happened? No it wouldn’t. It happened because he signed for Celtic.

Now imagine he was a Sevco player…

Colleen May Perpetual light shine upon you, and may you rest in peace

So glad you gave us big James, what a legacy

A couple of wee prayers for all to give up for James and his family

    Taken from the St Patrick’s missionary society ( Kiltegan Fathers);

Do not let your hearts be troubled

Trust in God still and trust in me

In my Fathers house there are many rooms

Otherwise I would not have told you that I go to prepare a place for you

After I have gone and prepared a place for you

I shall come again and take you with me

So that where I am, you also may be

You know the way to where I am going

and a wee traditional Irish Prayer :

Christ’s is the seed, and Christ’s the harvest

Into God’s gathering may we be drawn

Christ’s is the Sea and Christ’s the fish,

Into God’s nets may we be turned

From birth to age and age to death,

Your two hands, Christ, about us be

    From death,

    Life’s end, and life’s rebirth

    In heavens grace, eternally

  7. So the SFA made a serious charge with a significant ban imposed (when

was the last time they applied such a censure ? ) on the “balance of probability” – a ridiculous statement

The appeal was registered some time back …. How long does it take toile a decision here … I would consider about an hour maximum would do it

Disgraceful… Meanwhile Aleksandar Tonev has this hanging over him for another 2 weeks … Minimum

There is no justification for this ….. None

What’s so wrong with admitting your wrong ? What’s so wrong with saying that you made a mistake ? Everyone does it…. Just admit it, you clueless bunch of incompetents !!

  8. Jude, decision deferred for up to two weeks.

LarryBhoy, they didn’t make a mistake, they just attempted a miscarriage of justice.

    CowieBhoy, nice words, well said.

  12. To all my brothers and sisters here, thank you. Thank you for your prayers, your wisdom, your kindness and your solace.

I’ve just had the bittersweet, poignant night with my Dad that I always thought we’d have if we had to deal with this situation.

I feel blessed to be part of my immediate family and the wider Celtic family. You are so much more than a club than we can even begin to describe.

Bedtime. For the first ever time without a Mum here on earth. But she’s def here and I now fear she’ll see all the shoite I say on here!

  13. So another 2 weeks. They know they are in the wrong, again.

The bottom line is, the huns that run things here are angry and exposed, they must be removed. In the meantime, their stupid pride will have us all laughing ala Alloa Alloa style.

She will be with always in spirit.

Probably looking over your shoulder and thinking what’s all this about some guy called Tonev

  17. Doc,

Bought one of those £2 breathalysers from Halfords. If you’re able to read the instructions and use it as directed you are sober:-)

Apparently the more expensive ones (£30+) are flying off the shelves

I put up yesterday it was 40 years to the day my Auld Granda had passed away, Auld Hubby

He ended up blind with no teeth, and used to sit as his front door sooking on jaw breakers ( dainty caramels) or other sweet things.

Can you ask you Mum in your own prayers to her tonight, to make sure he gets a bit of her home baking, my goodness he would enjoy that

Thoughts and prayers with your family Bhud

  19. Jamesgang i lost my May 2 years ago and not a day goes by that i donr think of her and smile and as you will know your Mum will never leave your heart or you thoughts.

  20. Jamesgang,

I’m really sorry to hear your mum has passed away.

It’s bad but it will hurt less as times goes on and don’t feel guilty as this happens.

I think, the best you can do is to remember people when you are happy and think how happy they would be.

    Take Care

  21. Nakasami, might invest in one of the more expensive ones.

As I said, you need them for driving in France.

At the end of the day we are each responsible, and a tool that helps keep us, and others safe, is worthwhile.

  22. Cowiebhoy

I only ever ate my Mum’s tablet vis any other was such a poor substitute. It’ll be perfect for him. Melt in your mouth stuff. Melted you teeth too mind though he’ll no be fashed if he didnae have any!

She’d be tickled and mortified by all this. She thought it hilarious and sweet in equal measure that all these big hairy (and Doc) Tims were praying for her when she took ill.

  23. Was at the match last night not too much to get excited about but another 3 points gathered.Im willing Ronny to succeed and hope he gets time to get a team that matches his vision on the park.Fantastic result for Alloa last night which made the evening more enjoyable but Guys dont forget Morton beat us at Celtic park last year and they gotrelegatefrom that league.

  25. So Aleksandar will find out ‘within’ two weeks if his appeal has been successful.

I’d hope whoever represented him asked why these cretins need more time to make a judgement. Are they hoping more ‘evidence’ will suddenly and miraculously appear from the sheep.

Wonder what the Bulgarian FA will have to say about this.

Do you know if I should’ve received my C&TA book I ordered online a few weeks ago?

  27. My mother in law passed away this day in 1997, loved her to bits.

A lot of posters talk about angels, perhaps without knowing anything about angels, who knows, I believe in angels, round about this time, the wife and I were in bed, all of a sudden we both at the same time heard the sound of bells and singing, we looked at each other, we had no idea of the significance at the time, about an hour later we got a call telling us Jean had passed an hour before, spooky, not at all.
