By sheer happenstance I was in Ayr town centre this afternoon, decided to get a coffee with the missus in Waterstone’s, walk in the door and there at a table signing away was the great man.
After wolfing down a cappucino to keep her happy, back to get a book signed. She’s in a hurry to secure aforementioned WMDs and leaves me in awed happiness as Willie signs my copy.
By the time I’d walked out the door after shaking his hand TWICE and feeling the resonance of glorious silver triumph warmed by a Lisbon sun resonate down the decades and generations I realised I’d missed a photo opportunity (my phone cam is nixed) and it was too late to snare the wife as the school run was on.
Moral: REMEMBER your cameras, gents. Or keep the wife on a leash.
But 46 years, five days from the Greatest Bhoys Ever striking an epic, echoing, insurmountable blow for the good ghuys, I at least got to shake the hand of a living legend.
