Don’t mention the (boardroom) war

1004

With financial projections which provide entertaining reading, Rangers International promoted director, Walter Smith, to the position of chairman.  Smith immediately proclaimed, “Unity among the directors is vital”, although he was not asked about the forthcoming EGM where fellow directors Malcolm Murray and Chris Morgan face dismissal, while a third director, Charles Green, suggested he was going to resign by today, but has not got around to filling out the form yet (does this guy have ‘form’ when it comes to filling Companies House forms?)…..

They don’t do unity very well.

The only show in town is season ticket sales; for all clubs.  Maybe Celtic should appoint Martin O’Neill to the board for a few weeks to allow the newspapers to provide some bluster for those who more convinced by headlines and sound-bites than strategy?  Perhaps not.  Let’s stick to plan.

Lisbon Lion in Ayrshire, send reinforcements!

Willie Wallace will be at Waterstons in Ayr from 1-3pm this afternoon, get along (with camera) if you can.

Tomorrow Willie will be at the Celtic Superstore from 12-2pm before going to the Celtic Shop, Clydebank, from 3.30-5.30pm.  Get out and meet the man.

Great to meet so many people at Waterstons, Stirling, last night. The store sold out of Willie’s autobiography. There was actually a queue of people waiting to enter the store at one point.

Just a few days left on the auction for the signed Messi strip, a magnificent piece of football memorabilia. Keep an eye on it here.

Order your copy of Heart of a Lion, delivered before Father’s Day, below…..

  1. Fergus slayed the blues

When Big Vic leaves I hope he moves to a team where he’ll continue to win trophies and not simply to a club such as Arsenal who are perpetual losers and appear to be happy to be so if their joy at simply finishing in a CL place is anything to go by.

  2. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Vic at ManU.

Perfect signing for their new manager.

  3. Italiabhoy.

Don’t think he could rellace Carrick at the moment. Imo obviously.

  4. ItaliaBhoy

At the right price I’d be fine with that. Different type of player but would he replace Scholes do you reckon?

  5. I hope to see Big Vic in July wearing green and white Hoops.

Keep the best players and add to it.

We don’t have to sell to balance the books, we still have the Seville money.

I came across this account of Celtic v Leeds European Cup semi at Hampden in 70.

A good afternoon read for tea break for the workers.

    Sorry mate, a WONDERFUL read!

I was at that game, one of the highlights of my Celtic supporting life.

    Many thanks my friend.

  8. "THERE IS ONLY ONE TEAM IN GLASGOW" aka "@67MOULDY67" on

    Team

during past few months , many people had helped support the wee oscar campaign

Some of these people were strangers that we had never met, some where friends , family or work colleagues

Recently when I had organised a wee cycle to Edinburgh for wee oscar, two of my work colleagues that I had worked with for 22 years organised some team events in the workplace to help raise a lot of funds

Sometimes when you become so focused on some things you can overlook things

I am writing this wee note tonight, as my good work colleague Jim, as mentioned above had just went through one hell of a roller coaster ride for nearly five years with his grandson Aidan

A few weeks ago, Jim and his family were advised that Aidan may not see his birthday of five years which was this month

In memory of Aidan the family are trying to raise funds to support

medulloblastoma , which is brain tumour research

Jim is going to climb the most difficult Munro in UK in Skye

There are many other activities planned , I just recall the

Munro in Skye , given some plans to climb Ben Nevis soon

I enclose a wee link below which tells the story better

If anyone can help, it is appreciated

  9. I reckon Moyes wants to build his own team. Its what Ferguson did – his original young team became synonymous with him. They defined his management.

Moyes is clearly there because they want to keep the Ferguson model intact, and I think that means identifying the best young talent in Europe and try to pick them up when possible (and merge with outstanding local players as well).

If Man U wanted a manager to sign the latest big-name player, they’d have got in Mourinho.

Victor (and players like him) is the smart move for Moyes.

Probably the most important question of the night……

If The King Vic 67 leaves the greatest club on the planet will I change my name or leave it as is?

  11. Rip Noel O Mahony Cork Hibs and Cork City legend died today aged 73.

Managed Cork City to league title and won the league 1971 with Cork Hibs and two Fai Cups 72 and 73 !

    Prayers offered !!

It is right and fitting that Walter Smith has been made Chairman of the new club, because he is second only to David Murray in leading the old club into liquidation. and that was with the Bank of Scotland behind them. As noted, Smith is there, like McCoist, to sell season tickets, on behalf of Charlie Green, to the gullible, and the deluded, for which there are no shortages down Ayebroke Way. Should Smith succeed, like Murray before him, and lead the new club into liquidation, then he will deserve the knighthood that is coming his way. Arise Sir Watty, for services to humanity!

  15. Toffee Tim, I was absolutely thrilled to read your post. Hibs were formed in 57 when I was 9 and for the 20 years of their existence I followed them the length & breadth of the Country. I had many heroes from those teams but none greater then Noel O’Mahony. A local working class Cork lad he wasn’t that big but he was tough as teak. You said legend and you never said a truer word an absolute Legend in my eyes. Was going to make a post myself but said whats the point no one will have a clue what I’m talking about, a part of my childhood died today but it is so good that someone else on the blog knows and remembers Noel. R.I.P.

  16. Philbhoy & Auldhied re Leeds 70…

We had an Irish Centre in the town where we would gather to watch maist of the games – it died a slow death – another story.

Anyways in the period where they stopped showing the games and closed for good (not totally unrelated IMO), they got a call from a bhoy wanting to catch a European game.

Knowing that I would be pulling out the stops to get a ghathering they gave him my number.

    He was working locally.

Anyways I got a place that was showing the game and spread the word.

The fhella turned up with a yorkshire accent and introduced himself, he was of course welcomed and we watched the game, while exchanging snippets of polite conversation.

Didn’t really get his back story so said at half time exactly what was his connection with Celtic, Ireland, Scotland.

None says he Yorkshireman born and bred.

His Dad a fanatical Leeds supporter had taken him to see the EC SF as a boy, he fell in love as the bhoys in hoops (and dodgy socks) as they played football the Glasgow Celtic way.

And had been a supporter ever since.

    Hail! Hail!

Chairbhoy – Are you from Leeds?

I served my apprenticeship in Leeds for NG Bailey and have fond memories of the Irish centre and Macguires.

  18. If Vic is entering the final year of his contract and won’t extend it, them, I’m afraid, he has to go.

Much as it would be unfortunate for us, I believe the boy may regret it.

Physically, he is all the man he will ever be. However, he is still a child in football terms.

He still has much to learn about the game and his mistakes will be highlighted and ruthlessly punished in a more unforgiving league than the SPL.

    Think on, Victor.

  19. No *the king vic 67*,

Wycombe, know NG Baileys, they had a big place not far from Elland Road.

I tend to deal with their Telecoms side in and around London.

Never have had a dull evening in Leeds though, a great Company to train with, all too few around these days.

    Hail! Hail!

  21. Good evening everybody.

What a wonderful season we have had! Highlight was cheering when Celtic emerged – yet again – victorious from Moscow. Everybody deserved praise that night but I was so pleased for Samaras and our swashbuckling left back.

It is such a pity that James Forrest is a young man being given moronic abuse by some on this site. Will this lot ever learn? They always need somebody to castigate. Forrest is a fine prospect.

I wonder how Benfica bampots feel following their club’s woeful end of season collapse: especially as they are up to their cojones in debt. Kev Junglyo from Lisbon must be wanting the board sacked!

  22. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

Don’t want Vic to go, but if he does then Arsenal would be a good destination. They are a selling club and we could work in a sell-on clause. If he went to a Man Utd or Chelsea we wouldn’t get anything beyond the initial fee.

  23. Vic – Davidson that is – actually signed for Celtic twice.

As did Charlie Nick and some guy called Andy Walker.

No Good Baileys ….. St Fergus…transferred to HO Bradford….they had the biggest & best plant dept of any company that I have worked with.

They also had at the time a place called Dalton Hall.(sp) they used this for training & accommodation.
