Dougie Dougie and SFA cover-up

897

As a consequence of items relating to lies told by former referee Dougie McDonald’s no longer being found by searches through Google’s UK portal, while reaming available on the US portal, a suspicion arose that McDonald has used recent EU ruling to have these items expunged from the search engine.

During a Dundee United-Celtic game in 2010 McDonald awarded Celtic a penalty, then quickly changed his mind.  He lied to Neil Lennon after the game, and to the SFA supervisor about the circumstances which caused him to change his mind.  Celtic Quick News published an excerpt from the supervisor’s report, which was based on information McDonald subsequently admitted was false.

Having admitted to a lie, and under pressure from Celtic, McDonald resigned later in the year, but the greater stench was that of cover-up.  Having set the chain of events in motion, McDonald realised his error and admitted what he did to the SFA on the day of the game.

Having lied, he quickly came clean, but the actions of the SFA were far more serious.  With knowledge of the lie, the SFA were now in ownership of it.  They should have told McDonald to apologise to Neil Lennon and the referee supervisor.  Instead, they publicly reaffirmed the lie.

Even after the cover-up came to light, the SFA continued to close ranks on Celtic, faces were set to stone.  If Celtic didn’t know their place when it came to the dark arts of the SFA, they became acutely aware of it then.  Nothing could ever be the same again.

I have sympathy for McDonald.  He made a mistake but quickly did the right thing.  His name is tarnished largely as a consequence of the actions of his superiors.  If he called Neil Lennon the next day to extend the apology he gave to the SFA, the matter may have ended there and then.  He was not an innocent victim of an SFA cover-up, but he was a kind of victim.

The fight to change the SFA goes on.  Peter Lawwell is now on the board and some of the faces have moved on, but it is not a healthy body.  The vast majority of the 93 member clubs are not conspiratorial in nature and have no ill towards Celtic or any other club, but overhauling the labyrinth of committees, with vested interests which have been decades in the making, will look like pushing water uphill to anyone committed to reform.

Our interests are best served leaving the SFA behind, and we’re not alone in that.

Excitement builds as the 10-in-a-row CQN Charity Golf Day takes place tomorrow in Aberdour, with Frank McGarvey and Len Murray!

This year we are raising money for Glasgow the Caring City and The Cookiejar Foundation. We have two copies of this magnificent canvas, signed by Billy McNeill, one is available to the highest bidder on ebay here.

The other is available for raffle. Every donor to this JustGiving page gets an entry in the raffle. The minimum donation is £1, which we can all afford to participate in, although you can donate as much as you want. Our thanks to @BarryMcGonigle for the image on the canvas and OPG Graphics for creating the work.

  1. Tim Malone Will Tell on

Is Fraser Forster going to be the next stick to beat Peter Lawwell with?

Lets get real – FF has just spent the best part of 3 weeks hanging around with a bunch of guys who play in the EPL and “earn” astronomic wages. To cap it all, is it true to say that he was the only England player that didnt get a game?

If he goes, it will be because he wants to leave. Blaming that on Peter Lawwell or the “bored” is just drivel.

  2. A very fair appraisal, Paul67, of the whole sorry affair. The old “vested Interests” will take some shifting, as the recent vote on change made perfectly clear. How do we leave the SFA behind?

I think under the rules the person involved has to request it , not sure if that would include the SFA ?

    My point exactly mate.

There was an attempt to get away with “the office banter cartoon” angle but he lied, then used his position/influence to engineer a strike with Celtic/Neil being the target.

He is a liar, a cheat, and a bully, if he wants to sue me i’ll take both him and Ogilvie on. How he can maintain his position after denying access to paperwork to enable the inquiry’s by both LNS and HMRC is a scandal.

As for being in receipt of a £95,000 EBT I hope todays news that HMRC are to have the power to REMOVE any “contested tax money” from individuals until proven their tax scam are ligit will have many ex Rangers players/staff sueing their agents.

Forster if the money is right could go anytime. That has always been the case.

We now have a good keeper in place if he does though.

Don;t worry about tomorrow too much. Get through today first.

  12. I’m happy to welcome Craig Gordon as a Player, I always was envious that Hearts had the best Keeper in Scotland at the time and if he gets back to full fitness he’ll be a great player for us.

I don’t understand why people dislike him because he went up for a corner against Celtic,he was only trying to win Hearts a game, A lot of people need to grow up on this site.

You would think that every baby that’s born is born a Celtic fan, No their not, they have to grow into loving Celtic either by their fathers, or siblings, or by Playing for Celtic, Craig Gordon will become a Celtic great if the chance arises, and will profess his love for the club,

  20. From the OP: “I have sympathy for McDonald. He made a mistake but quickly did the right thing. ”

I don’t quite agree, Paul. The “right thing”, in this case, would have been to apologise publicly and promptly to Neil Lennon, to Celtic Football Club and to every Celtic supporter. I believe we’re still waiting for that.

His failure to make clear that Neil Lennon, in particular, was entirely blameless in that episode made a considerable contribution to the campaign of hatred and intimidation which our manager subsequently had to endure.

I have no sympathy whatsoever for McDonald.

Remember after the reversed decision at Tannadice (it was 2 pens BTW), McDonald gave a drop ball at the edge of the box, telling Stokes not to go for it ,ensuring DU cleared the ball up the park.

Celtic had given a medical to Craig Gordon and had him in for a look before Ronny was appointed. I don;t see a problem with that. Top class player and available. Get him in and see what he can do. The goalkeeping coach opinion and analysis is important.

Clubs in Europe and in particular Spain have had presidents who sign players. The galactico years at Real Madrid the manager had players given to him by the president. Top players mind you but that was the way it is done.

I am not saying anyone at Celtic out with the manager can sign players. I don;t believe anyone ever signs a player for the coach. Craig Gordon was brought in to be assessed. This was before Ronny was appointed. It may have been that this was arranged before Neil Lennon left. Who knows? Once Gordon had went through and assessment and a physical test he was deemed to be an option. Now Stevie Woods may have then fed that back to the new gaffer and he decided to take a look in training. Craig Gordon has been deemed fit and good enough for Celtic by the manager and the club. The club will always be involved to sanction a signing. It’s a huge business. Contracts are involved and a financial decision has to be part of the process along with risk assessment.

The decision was not made to sign Craig Gordon until the new manager had been apppointed. I don;t see what your ultimate point is here?
