Early stats point to Sviatchenko effect

623

Well done to everyone for the win against Morton. After a difficult week it was good to get the result sorted out before halftime. Fixing poor form is seldom a straightforward business, but yesterday’s win was our sixth game in a month, with the loss of only one goal in that period.

The five games before this run didn’t produce a single clean sheet. Erik Sviatchenko started only the last of those five games (at Pittodrie), so while the sample size isn’t enough to draw clear conclusions, it’s an early indication the Dane has tightened things up at the back.

One thing Erik hasn’t been able to do is turn Celtic into a team which looks like it knows how to defend a corner kick. A Morton corner fell into the six-yard box to an attacker’s foot (never mind head). We’ve seen dozens of these horror-show set-pieces this season. They have cost us in the Champions League, Europa League, League Cup and in the Premiership. The Scottish Cup is the only tournament we’ve got away with it, so far.

You are I are beyond despairing at this point, let’s just get it sorted, Celtic.

The schism within the celtic support is widening. Our board have placed their bet. Its for money and racism.

And here we are breaking in two.

Scotland will pretend that nothing happenned to the huns. It must for it relies on the hun to feed its racism.

    Celtic will diminish and diminish.

I have no idea how many supporters wont go back but i believe its a non trivial amount. I depart from ernie lynchs view that the crowds will flock back. I think the heart of celtic has been ripped out by the boards decisions.

Paul was right. It will never be the same again. But thats because celtic will never be the same again

Its all very sad but the die has been cast and it will play out.

A few years from now after mib decision after secision a few of you may remain on this site wondering about our chance to end this once and for all.

I cant get angry any more. Like the girlfriend who betrwyed you. Eventuallly you come to accept it and know its simply time to move on.

NEGANON2. I dont often agree with you but this time I think you are correct there is a split in the Celtic support developing those who see themselves as die hards and see themselves as supporting Celtic whatever. Then there are those who are saying enough is enough and unless there are changes ( very unlikely ) they will not as they see Scottish Football as rigged continue to support it. I think Celtic are going to find it hard to bridge this divide and getting back to full houses at Parkhead even against the Rangers is a long way off.H.H.

  14. Bitton on way back and Johansens injury not as bad as first thought.from site

CELTIC have been handed a double boost tonight with the discovery that Stefan Johansen’s knock sustained at the weekend is not as bad as first feared and the return to training of Nir Bitton.

Johansen had to be helped from the pitch at half-time in the Scottish Cup quarter-final win over Greenock Morton after a late tackle from Michael Miller.

Unable to rejoin the action for the second half, he was replaced by Colin Kazim-Richards as the Hoops eased into the last four of the competition.

There was concern at the extent of the midfielder’s injury but the club’s medical team have subsequently ascertained that, while he will miss Saturday’s Glasgow derby away to Partick Thistle, he will hopefully be available for selection the following weekend.

Ronny Deila will also welcome the return to fitness of Bitton, who has been sidelined since the 3-0 triumph over Inverness Caley Thistle on February 20.

Joe fillipi I realise how difficult it is for Celtic supporters to refuse to go. It’s a horrible thing (and had contributed to my anger about the board).

But I honestly think from a personal perspective my mourning process is nearly over and I am ready to permanently move on.

    It’s a weird feeling.

I no longer want to be part of the so called sectarianism. I won’t be a willing victim. I won’t give credence and money and time to something that is harmful.

I will have some memories but those now will be about friendship and my view on what Celtic was will be jaded by what it now is.

I have no criticism left for those of you who want o keep going but my Cassandra type prediction (for of course you are bound to ignore it all) is that the sense of hollow es will increase. And the support will simply drift away.

You know we think ofceltic and football as permanent but it’s actually just a wee blip.

If Celtic was more than a club it might just survive. But actually it is now less than a club.

They can’t tell us there has been a drop off in attendance at CP because Celtic have supported the continuation myth when the evidence is not there for Celtic supporting this myth or that its even the reason for empty seats at CP. We all know the empty seats began to appear in 2008 and if the opposition yesterday was Barcelona the place would have been packed out. Talk about selective principles eh.

There’s plenty reasons why the place is empty. It’s too dear, the season book culture excludes people from attending and there is very little entertainment on the park. There is also a lack of a rival. Yeah, do I like that fact? Yeah, I have quite enjoyed it but let’s not mythologise that part of this eating ourself whole hasn’t been directly link to them being liquidated and us not having something to moan abut.

Off course the SFA, SPFL and even us tried to shoehorn the new incarnation as far up the leagues as possible for purely economic reasons. That they didn’t and had to start again is a victory. The pre-2012 Rangers is one of the biggest scandals ever in world football. To quote: “have they been punished enough?”

Well possibly not but having to start again is fitba’s way of dealing with largesse. It’s sh*t eh?

But a ready made rival is appearing again. Reincarnated in an incubator. Like thousands of fitba clubs before and others after. Like it or not that appeals to the simple mind of the fitba fan. Unfortunately to most all the other stuff is just a sideshow.

Ireland face Oman on Wednesday and then Bangladesh and Netherlands. The team that comes top of that pile will play games against Pakistan, Australia, India and New Zealand in the main draw.

  29. Joe fillipi I know. But I always thought of Celtic as a movement. But perhaps I was always wrong in that and all that emotion was actually a waste of time.
