ECA, Interpol, another day at the office for Scottish football

1327

Pleased to see the Club recognised for CelticLive, the stadium WiFi and content imitative by the European Club Association.  Anything which builds our profile at the ECA is welcome.

Today’s Telegraph assures us Newco Rangers chief executive, Graham Wallace, is set to  leave the club with his plans to raise £4m at a pending share issue still in the balance.  The newspaper further asserts the club is a “toxic brand” and is trying to secure an emergency loan from Newcastle United owner, Mike Ashley.

The club, which informed the Court of Session on Friday that it had only £1.2m cash left, and last night informed the Telegraph it was losing £1m per month, requires vastly more money than the £4m they are struggling to raise in order to finish the season.

Some credit is due to the Daily Record for their splash with photo and leader, “Rangers director Sandy Easdale and a criminal wanted by Interpol tried to negotiate an Ibrox bailout yesterday”.  They are reporting two years after Paul McConville’s blog initially broke the news of said Interpol-interested character, Rafat Rizvi.

Rizvi, who can take refuge in the UK as we don’t have an extradition treaty with Indonesia, is allegedly wanted for corruption, money laundering and banking crime, denies the charges, which he has already been convicted of.  He should fit in quite well.

As we said at the weekend, irrespective of short-term events, the long-term fundamentals remain unchanged.  The only thing to be decided is which of the characters hovering around the carcase will get to pick on the bones.

All credit to Sir David Murray.

  1. Ronny Deila: I’m raring to go again after international break

    Wednesday 10 September 2014 (Herald)

Ronny Deila used the international break to reflect on a “stressful” start to his career as Celtic manager.

The Norwegian took over from Neil Lennon in June and was thrown into the crucial Champions League qualifying campaign the following month, which ended with fingers pointing towards the former Stromsgodset boss when the Hoops failed to get through the play-off stage against Slovenian side Maribor.

The fact that Celtic had been given a reprieve after losing 6-1 on aggregate to Legia Warsaw in the third qualifier when the Polish side fielded an ineligible player in the second-leg at Murrayfield, only brought more criticism as the Parkhead club dropped into the group stages of the Europa League which begin next week with a trip to Salzburg.

Following the 1-1 Scottish Premiership draw with Dundee at Dens Park – Celtic’s fourth game without a win – Deila returned to his homeland to see his wife and two daughters before returning refreshed, reinvigorated and ready to go

Ahead of the visit of Aberdeen on Saturday, he told Celtic View: “It was important to get some reflection as it’s been 10 stressful weeks with a high intensity.

“So to get some days off and reflect on where we are and where the road is going has been nice and I’m looking forward to the games now.

“We have done a lot of good things but there are also things we can do better.

“We need to sort out how we are going to get more improvement in the team and work on the issues we need to tackle, both offensively and defensively.

“It takes time. We have made progress but there is still a long way to go.

“The squad is strong and we have many interesting games coming up so there are big opportunities to get more improvement and better results.”

Deila returned to a strengthened Celtic squad which left him “very satisfied”.

Serbian striker Stefan Scepovic, 24, signed a four-year deal from Sporting Gijon on transfer deadline day while Swedish forward John Guidetti arrived on loan from Manchester City.

“I am very happy to get them in,” said Deila.

“We have strikers but they are quite similar so to get in strikers who have different qualities is important.

“Now we have bought in two very exciting players up front and that will make the squad and the competition in the team better, and we need that because of the amount of games we play.

“I’m really looking forward to working with the whole group and getting their potential about.”

Guidetti’s deal was not completed before the transfer deadline but the move was rubber-stamped following an appeal to UEFA by the Scottish football authorities.

The 22-year-old scored 20 goals in 23 games during a loan spell with Feyenoord in 2011-12 which led Deila to declare his excitement.

He said: “He’s a natural goal scorer. He had a fantastic season in Holland when he played for Feyenoord and then he was unlucky and had an illness.

“I feel we can bring him back to that level. I have seen him many times at City.

“We are going to get him playing games and then we will get a good player.”

  2. Polls?

IF Ronny is only going to play 1 of our new signings on Saturday from the start…..which 1 would YOU like to see?

Guidette sounds like he could be an amazing signing……but i am really looking forward to seeing Scepovic in action.

A man that says he will do his talking on the pitch.

Henrik was like that…..none of that thumbs up stuff…..fingers crossed!

When was this previous independence vote? This is the first one I remember.

If you refer to the vote on an assembly(with very few powers) in 79, that failed and the SNP went into a huff and voted with the Tories to force an election which the Tories won.

Those facts have been raised here about 1000 times.

The interesting conjecture is what will happen in England without the Scottish Socialist vote(Labour) and what position in real politics the SNP will take if indy is no longer a goal(yes vote),

Simple view in England would be that Tories always win but we may see a shift to Labour in the Midlands due to the power on the Tories in SE.

In Ireland, Sinn Fein is the nationalist party but have always positioned to the left.

    SNP, not so obvious

  5. I just tweeted George Galloway and asked him if he had been excluded on SNP instructions. He is a busy man, however he has been noble enough in the past to reply to me. I await his reply, remember he has more enemies in the NO supporting Labour Party (UK party) than he has supporters.Myself, I stand more with him than against him on many matters amd hope he can clear this up.

Sunday Post a truly insidious rag.

  8. DD,

He’s got a second interview on Friday at 11.00, here’s hoping, thanks for asking and the prayers mate.

If your still going for a few after the game on Saturday, I could be up for that :))

  9. Tom McLaughlin

“Prior to moving to Oz, I was living in the USA. This is my first vote since around 2001/2 and before that I was quite ambivalent about independence. What is so wrong or unusual about that?”

No accusations were made about wrong or unusual.

It is the fervour and certainty of people over-estimating this “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity for Independence that I am questioning.

This independence they so fervently desire could have been achieved at any time in the past 50 years by voting in sufficiently large numbers for the SNP. You “were” ambivalent about that. Now You “are” fervent for it. I will reserve the right to be fervent about people waxing large about something that was easily achieved during most of their lifetime.

It smacks of a deathbed repentance or the zeal of the reformed smoker.

It is the numbers of enemies that he has at Westminster that he puzzles me with his No stance. A stance that he is perfectly entitled to take. And I am voting YES.

It will all be a MI5 plot. I’m sure I saw a man with a wire coming out of his heid in the BBC studios.

No room for facetioness,. It is an extremely serious matter if a politicaL party can deictate BBC policy. Matter needs cleared up.

Gerrybhoy, congratulations on your daughter’s success.

Blantyre, I hope your recovery is quick after your visit to Delaney’s bit last week.

You mentioned last night about the old Supplementary Benefit days and people getting their housing costs with their payments and the same happening with Universal Credit. I’m sure councils, housing associations & mortgage lenders are not the happiest of campers with that news.

I hope we see two of our new players on Saturday and they give us a bit of hope for this season.

I agree about giving Callum McGregor a break and I would give Efe or Izzy a rest also.

No Green Brigade as a group on Saturday, they can’t get the season tickets sorted out for the members but they will be at The Motherwell game the following week at Celtic Park. Individual members will be at Saturday’s game.

you haven’t answered my question a number of times, do you do any active campaigning apart from on Internet blogs

  21. Well I’ve heard it all now.

The SNP can control the BBC now?

Now that is a cracker considering all the unpaid work they’ve done for the NO lot from day one.

Question time isn’t on the listings tomorrow, it is Scotland decides from the Hydro which I believe Jim Murphy is appearing as an official no spokesperson for as he mentioned on one of his many appearances of 77 studios in one week after egg-gate.

When did Galloway join the official no campaign? He has always said he was not part of it.

    Present the evidence Galloway..

If you make an accusation, you’d better have the proof.

If Ronny is only able to play 1 of his new signings from the start I would have to choose Guidetti.

He has a confidence bordering on arrogance and the last striker who had that was Henrik.
