Today’s Telegraph assures us Newco Rangers chief executive, Graham Wallace, is set to leave the club with his plans to raise £4m at a pending share issue still in the balance. The newspaper further asserts the club is a “toxic brand” and is trying to secure an emergency loan from Newcastle United owner, Mike Ashley.
The club, which informed the Court of Session on Friday that it had only £1.2m cash left, and last night informed the Telegraph it was losing £1m per month, requires vastly more money than the £4m they are struggling to raise in order to finish the season.
Some credit is due to the Daily Record for their splash with photo and leader, “Rangers director Sandy Easdale and a criminal wanted by Interpol tried to negotiate an Ibrox bailout yesterday”. They are reporting two years after Paul McConville’s blog initially broke the news of said Interpol-interested character, Rafat Rizvi.
Rizvi, who can take refuge in the UK as we don’t have an extradition treaty with Indonesia, is allegedly wanted for corruption, money laundering and banking crime, denies the charges, which he has already been convicted of. He should fit in quite well.
As we said at the weekend, irrespective of short-term events, the long-term fundamentals remain unchanged. The only thing to be decided is which of the characters hovering around the carcase will get to pick on the bones.
All credit to Sir David Murray.

Standard Life reiterates concerns about Scots independence
(Reuters) – Edinburgh-based insurance and pensions group Standard Life Plc (SL.L) reiterated concerns that a vote next month for Scotland’s independence could create economic and financial risks and said it was sticking to plans to move operations out if necessary.
Standard Life, which has so far been one of the most outspoken Scottish firms about issues around independence, drew up detailed contingency plans in May to potentially move some operations out of Scotland to protect itself from upheaval if Scots voted in favour of splitting from the United Kingdom.
The insurer said at the time that it would not hesitate to move parts of its operations to England or register its funds there to protect its market position. Any relocation could put some 5,000 Scottish jobs at risk.
Standard Life said on Tuesday, as it reported first-half results, that it had not been given any clarity on the economic and financial concerns it raised including those about Scotland’s currency, regulations and European Union membership.
“In making our comments, we were not seeking to make a political comment. It was very much round about how we think about factors that impact our business,” Chief Executive David Nish said on a media call.
Many Scottish businesses, particularly in financial services, have been hesitant to voice their opinions or concerns about the vote for fear of backlash from clients, investors and politicians.
“We are unaware of any significant amount of money being withdrawn with regards to this,” Nish said, adding that the company had received “a very strong measure of support” from shareholders for its plans.
Nish’s comments come before a crucial referendum debate between Scottish National Party leader Alex Salmond and former UK Chancellor Alistair Darling is set to air live on Scottish television on Tuesday evening.
Standard Life posted a 12 percent rise in first-half operating pretax profit to 339 million pounds on Tuesday, beating analysts’ average expectation of 321 million pounds in Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
The insurer said it was benefiting from the British government’s decision last year to automatically enrol workers in company pension schemes, adding that it expected over 300,000 new auto-enrolled customers in 2014.
JP Morgan Cazenove analyst Ashik Musaddi said the results were in line to slightly ahead of his expectations and maintained an ‘overweight’ rating on the stock.
Assets under administration rose 4 percent to 254.1 billion pounds in the six months ended June 30, while fund management arm Standard Life Investments posted a 5 percent increase in third-party assets to 108 billion pounds.
Standard Life’s London-listed shares were up 1.5 percent at 0925 GMT (10.25 a.m. BST).
Its dividend rose 7.3 percent to 5.6 pence.

Bob Dudley has just introduced REALITY into the debate.
I await some incredible fiction as to how the SNP get round that. Construct, construct like a nervous suspect, Alex.
Win my vote.
Or will Bob be dismissed as ‘jist anither English pr#cl who disnae know whit he’s talkin’ aboot. Oil n’at’s fine, rite?’

Call me simple Columbo style, but has this whole mess not had Campbell Ogilvie as it’s one constant Alpha and Omega?
You would think there was a connection between what has been allowed at RIFC/RFC and those in charge of club licensing at the SFA under Mr Ogilvie’s influence.
Pity Vincent Lunny (sp? ) cannot give any of the reasons why he left his post.
I want the Kellys,Whites and the old board back :-)

I’m heading out so it’s a bit unfair to leave you with a question but…. Hey Ho…
Be honest now!
In regards to your response to any interest shown by Westminster based politicians, do you not have all sides of the argument covered by a closed-thinking response.
If the WM politicians show an interest in the Scottish Independence referendum, they are:-
Only trying to keep the oil to themselves
Desperate to turn the tide of the Yes momentum
Butting into our affairs
Breaking the Purdah rules
Convincing Nobody
Displaying Squeaky Bum Syndrome
Dodging PMQ Time
And if they butt out or show little interest, they are:-
Not bothered about us
Taking us for granted
Frightened their presence will be counter productive
Hiding from a debate with Alex Salmond
Hiding behind Jim Murphy & Alisdair Darling
More concerned about PMQ Time than about the Referendum.
There is, frankly, nothing they could do or say, because ears are shut, eyes are closed, and we have our responses ready to cover why, whatever way they jump, they are still dead wrong because they are not True Scotsmen, and we’ll be the judge of that racial and/or cultural purity, thank you very much.

Perfectly summed up.

kevinbhoy has been on looking for a meet up, lennybhoy and bmcuw are making arrangements. ?.
Ernie,
The fact that Scotland has given far more to the UK than their numbers would have been expected to do, is not open to argument. It is an obvious truth.
Are they a superior species ?
I have no idea. All I have is the evidence of their achievements.
I am in a good position to praise the Scots without any agenda.
There is not one single gene in my being which has anything to do with this lovely country.
Every single atom of my being is drawn from Donegal.

That’s a distinction without a difference.
Salmond says whatever he thinks serves his purpose at the time with no regard to reality, facts or the truth.
And is therefore a glib and shameless liar.
In terms of the debate.

Surely he can come to a financial agreement and it can all be forgotten about….I’m sure there’a a precedent in some South African court for that.
Ernie,
Do you do any active campaigning like knocking doors or in the streets to help the no campaign, appears to me that no one has changed their view based on anything that is posted on here

I’d agree no one’s changed their views.
Probably applies to just about every topic ever discussed on here.
Enjoyed the article. Very football orientated. Would be good to see the blog returning to football matters. As for “ThisyearsRFC” , I forget the current name. They must be a real basket case if some of the real spivs arent prepared to turn a coin on them. Wouldnt discount Mike Ashley though. If he likes the model and gets offered a decent enough share to make it work he will put money in. If they they cant get enough capital to exist then cant see them getting enough investment to challenge unless Coisty can show his superior management ability by sweeping all before him and getting promotion, then again…. :)

Should i offer him £1 !
If we have a currency union with Independence and that’s a big IF. Then how Independent will that really make us? Am I right in saying that The Bank of England will still set interest rates etc etc?
Also if Scotland do go Independent what happens to simple travel to Europe? We will no longer be in the EU? Will visas be required to follow Celtic to away games or even if you just want to take a family holiday?
“And is therefore a glib and shameless liar.
In terms of the debate.”
Too true Ernie. Scoundrels ralottarem.
Good job he didn’t say something as daft as every country who joined the eu since mid 90’s have had to take the euro.
That would really make him a liar.
Just in terms of the debate though likesy.
Ernie,
it was a genuine question, do you actively campaign for the no vote,or is it all done on Internet blogs

The emphasis there is the ‘if necessary’ at the end of the first paragraph. It may not be.
I suspect Standard Life could move it’s business base without actually relocating it’s operations (same with RBS’s IT function in Edinburgh for that matter).

Because the fact that he says two different things about the same thing proves (a) that he’s a liar ( because they can’t both be true) and (b) he’s incoherent because the two things he’s said are mutually exclusive.
Basic logic, mate.
I think your confusion might stem from your apparent misunderstanding of the word incoherent.
