I was slightly miffed at Neil Lennon’s TV comments on Efe Ambrose yesterday, “He can’t cross”, but on reflection, better Neil points out the player’s flaws to the nation than gives him a ringing endorsement. I’d a similar sentiment after Emilio Izaguirre’s dangerous looking forward step against France, which was never in danger of making contact with an opponent, when an ever-unhelpful commentator assured us Izzie, “has that in his locker”. Anyone who has watched him for four years will know he doesn’t.
Based purely on what’s been offered up on UK TV, neither player will be attracting an offer, which is good.
Both Honduras and Nigeria have a difficult task ahead if they are to remain in the tournament beyond the group stage. Fraser Forster’s England also have it all to do. It’s been great for the three of them to get to the World Cup but the sooner they’re home, uninjured, the better.

One could say Collins is the bigger personality in the coaching line up and I can see a clash there. Collins has never struck me as a play second fiddle type of guy which he will have to do now. Bite his tongue don’t see it
And I’m not going to buy the line we need someone who knows the club the Scottish scene etc

Players who make a big profit obviously FF + Virgil
High wage earners if they don’t accept wage cuts

How do you know JC wasn’t RD’s choice as assistant? Deila interviewed him for the position.
How do you know JC will not play second fiddle to anyone? Why then would he accept the job rather than explain his position?
How do you know JC is too ambitious for an assistants’ s job? Surely in that case he would happily accept the job and aim to do really well and thereby obtain bigger offers in the future.

If two months ago we were told that we’d be starting next season with Ronny Deila as manager and John Collins as assistant manager would we have regarded that as progress, as an improvement?

Collins will not make Ronnys job any easier he will need to watch his back and Collins knows if Ronnys term is not successful he can step in his shoes
If you think JC is a guy who just says yes boss you are misguided he still thinks he is a very special one
This is a PL appointment not mistake about that

Can’t help but think back to the apparent hazing of the Celtic TV man after Dundee Utd game as a line crossed for the club executives. Details were scant though I read about it on etims after the season ended. Don’t recall anything on this blog.

I bet Vincent Lunny thought that being compliance officer for the SFA would be an easy gig compared to being a legal officer for the United Nations’ International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague, where he handled war crimes prosecutions.

Why would a coach pick a complete stranger to him
Look at the history of our coaches and their appointments as assistants most have been men the coach has got to know and trust over years of work
The roles with Collins and Deila could easily be reversed and no one would see a fault
I think this just puts more pressure on Deila to be his own man imo

Ronny is bringing his coaching team from Norway.
Ronny, as good a manager as he might be, will be astounded of forehead at the nonsense that passes for football governance and football culture in Scotland. It will be a steep learning curve for him in the league WE all know about.
John Collins knows his own mind and has walked away when he was obstructed from doing what he thought was best. Ronny also knows his own mind. I would like to think that these two men have spent a deal of time together these past weeks talking over the coaching/management philosophy they apparently share. Neither man wants to fail or wants the other to fail – why would they.
Many former managers take assistant posts eg Brian Kidd, Joe Jordan, Roy Keane and thrive.

Welcome back John Collins.
An excellent player that improved himself when he left Celtic most importantly as a player but also financially (before anyone makes the wisecrack). From what I have read about Ronny, he and JOhn Collins are of similar mindsabout fitness and technical ability.
The younger players should take this opportunity to study how a professional footballer player should conduct himself. John Collins is an excellent role model for that. Still looks as if he could play at SPL level even know.
His silencer of Ibrox is greatly cherished in my book.
Really glad about the JC appointment, liked him as a player, like him as a coach and as a person. Unlike some of the moaners on here I am willing to give him and the Ronny combo a chance. Really looking forward to next season. Hail Hail

What I do know about Collins and I have met him on a few occasions is that he aint no yes boss worker. The new coach would have had an easier job IMO if he got his own man

Wasn’t being flippant at all, you were posting about him as if you knew him well, it turns out you have no personal knowledge
I first met JC when he played for Celtic BC at 12 /13 yrs of age, he and his father were proud to be with Celtic, unfortunately Celtic didn’t fancy the wee talented player enough to sign him and the cost of travelling to Glasgow meant they pursued his career elsewhere, however once again he has turned up at Celtic park, i hope him RD do very well

I’m sure you have had past opinions of players and coaches you either agreed with or disagreed with and they were not based on your personal knowledge of the person.
JC is a great appointment in my opinion. Fitness levels should improve this season under Ronny and JC.
