Efe and Izzie getting hard time on TV

754

I was slightly miffed at Neil Lennon’s TV comments on Efe Ambrose yesterday, “He can’t cross”, but on reflection, better Neil points out the player’s flaws to the nation than gives him a ringing endorsement.  I’d a similar sentiment after Emilio Izaguirre’s dangerous looking forward step against France, which was never in danger of making contact with an opponent, when an ever-unhelpful commentator assured us Izzie, “has that in his locker”.  Anyone who has watched him for four years will know he doesn’t.

Based purely on what’s been offered up on UK TV, neither player will be attracting an offer, which is good.

Both Honduras and Nigeria have a difficult task ahead if they are to remain in the tournament beyond the group stage.  Fraser Forster’s England also have it all to do.  It’s been great for the three of them to get to the World Cup but the sooner they’re home, uninjured, the better.

  1. Breaking news.

Johnny Collins pushes referendum off cqn topic of the day.

A serious outbreak of football related posts has led to some posters walking away.

Even Ernie Lynch is joining in, it’ll never catch on. Normal service will resume tomorrow.

Nobody on here had heard of him a couple of weeks ago. Now he’s the greatest things since sliced bread. The only thing I know about him is that he was being considered for the assistant manager’s job.

A sense of perspective is required.

  3. Tim Jim Ernie does’nt give anyone chances – he knows best. Hail Hail Hebcelt BTW who would have been your choice Ernie?

  4. Delighted at the return of JC.

Surprised at his critics but it’s all about opinions

  5. Welcome home John Collins,

I hope your expertise in coaching and fitness regime gets our stamina levels up.Your knowledge of the scottish game will be a good support for our manager.

You were a beacon of light for our club in some dark times

I hope your independent spirit, confidence and belief rubs off on the players as i think we have one or two pearls coming through the youths,to join those already there.

best of luck and total support from me

Two months ago if you were told that Neil Lennon was out the door and was to be replaced by a guy from Norway you’d never heard of you would have been less than happy, wouldn’t you (be honest) ?

    What has changed?

Only in cqnland is a new coach with more experience and silverware than his predecessor prior to the post seen as downsizing.

  9. Chuckles and who knows maybe Wee Craigie back on the scene.

Why doesn’t DD end THEIR collective misery by buying THEM out, recoup some of his dough by flogging off Ibrox, Murray Park or whatever it is currently called and the Albion Car Park.

I am sure that a shrewdy like DD could make up any shortfall by employing the services of a reasonably competent tax accountant.

Just reading the news on the appointment of JC as #2

The ladies might say that Celtic have the most handsome management team in Scotland :)

I couldn’t comment on that but if our fitness levels ain’t higher this year I will be surprised

Posted here before Christmas that NL appeared to be man planning an exit strategy.

In saying that, I don’t particularly blame him.

Only in cqnland is a new coach with more experience and silverware than his predecessor prior to the post seen as downsizing.

I suppose it might just depend at what level he acquired experience and silverware.

  13. I don’t know him personally – never met him

But John Collins had the reputation of being ‘obsessive’ about improving himself

Obsessiveness is a difficult character trait to deal with by others but I regard myself as being a bit obsessive about seeing Celtic improve and like John Collins I wouldn’t care too much about anyone’s opinion about the need to work hard to improve personally and collectively.

People who buy into the improvement process will be there next season and beyond and the ones that can’t or won’t do that will find their level

I don’t believe RD or JC will carry passengers or favourites to the same extent as the previous regime

  14. Geordie Munro on

    Quonno,

    Completely true.

So let’s look at John Collins and Big dolphs managerial career prior to Celtic………

  15. As one of the few Scots at work I was once asked why there are Irish pubs all over the world but there don’t seem to be many Scottish pubs. The sub-text seemed to be given how much the Scots like a wee drink.

My response at the time, semi-jokingly, was that if you went into a Scottish pub it would be full of Scots moaning about something.

“This sunshine is rubbish, gives me sunburn”

“Why can’t we get square sausages here in Lyon”

“The porridge I ordered for breakfast was too runny, and I don’t even like porridge”

“Sydney Harbor Bridge is all right, but it’s not the Forth Road Bridge”

As I said it was a bit tongue in cheek, but sometimes, just sometimes, CQN makes me think it’s not that far from the truth.

  17. Really pleased to hear about John Collins. He was one of my favourite players and I think he has a great record as a coach.

  18. jamabhoy

There is a Scottish pub in Lyon. Had the misfortune to sit at the bar in there with a certain Bill Leckie. he is much worse than you can ever imagine. Bitter little man.

    LB

  19. Vincent Cunny, dismayed at the amount of young Tims being found not guilty of singing offensive ditties, quits his cushy number at the SFA to pursue his advocate qualifications and set to right these fenian miscarriages of guid Scottish masonic justice. A true pioneer.

Johnny Collins – the only Scottish player of my generation to absolutely maximize his potential in all fields – physically, financially, and playing experience.

He did so with a single-minded determination, obsessive focus and tremendous drive.

A lot of people don’t like that. A lot of people raise arguments about him ‘doing’ Celtic out of 1 million.

He merely exploited his potential, running down his contract and using the Bosman laws to make himself a millionaire. What he did is commonplace nowadays and barely raises a comment.

Anyone who still finds it galling, still points to Fergus going to court looking for a fee, then I hope they are so well-heeled they could knock back a straight million for their talent and magnanimously donate it to Celtic.

Collins is also accuse dof being ‘dull’. Well, he’s not in the job to entertain you with his wit.

After his HIbs adventure, just look at how well they fared once the players’ revolt had gotten rid of him.

He’s now Celtic assistant manager. He brings that absolute focus and professionalism hardly seen among young Scottish players to our club.

This is what we call a ‘good thing’. Our players don’t need pals. They need a fulcrum around which they can develop, learn and become professionals capable of competing at the very highest levels in the CL, with opposition players developed along the John Collins dediated line.

Johnny Collins can be as dull as he wants to be. I’m not interested in going to see a stand-up show – I want to see our players knuckle down and behave as professionally as they can.

Sme freeloaders are about to get rattled. Some drifters about to be cast aside, and some egos about to get rattled. There will be some petted lips, some sniping. A purge may take place.

But it will be for the good of Celtic. I can go along with that.

I saw a bloke today whom I have never seen before. He is quite obviously a really stingy guy and probably speaks ill of people behind their backs. He thinks very highly of himself but I am sure others don`t rate him. Or wouldn`t if they knew him. And just in case any of you are thinking I am jumping to conclusions, remember I saw the guy walking up the street and what I have said is just my opinion.

I’m sure JC is not as dull as he looks on TV.

Very popular with his team mates during his spell with Celtic. Assistant manager might just suit JC. He can train the players and Deila can manage them. Could be a decent fit.

I for one am exited over Ronny and John’s appointment. Young, hungry, well educated and uncompromising professionals both of them. Rest assured these two will leave no stone unturned in their everyday work to bring success to Celtic. That’s enough for me.

So Ernie, with respect, you can go and shove your lectures about how I should manage my enthusiasm.

I have no idea. I was blootered before we left Switzerland and started to sober up on the way back when we got to Luton.

    Great trip although we lost.

  26. I hadn’t realised until now how unfit the players were and how so many of them were free loaders who were only kept on because of favouritism by a thankfully now discredited management team.

No one’s mentioned these facts before now.

Next season’s going to be brilliant because the players are all going to be super fit.

Sandman – agreed. I think we should be prepared for the possibility of some off the record briefing by disgruntled (unfit) players.

I can assure you ( well maybe I can`t) that many people on here regularly mentioned Celtic players` unfitness. I totally disagree with that viewpoint but it has certainly been posted on here a great many times. Usually after a European defeat.

Collins is a no for me and I readily admit I bare old grudges about him
