Energising offensively

1455

I’ve spoken to many Celtic fans over the last couple of days but I’ve not met one who would have preferred Roy Keane to be our manager instead of Ronny Deila.  Despite some impeccable references, Ronny is a largely unknown character, but there is an appreciation among the support that we need to come up with a plan to enable the club to over-achieve in Europe.

The man’s performance at the media conference was faultless.  It’s not important to quick-witted but his use of words like “energise” and “offensive” is promising.  Football is in the entertainment business and Ronny appears to appreciate the link between the way his team perform, not just their results, and the ultimate satisfaction supporters’ leave the ground with.

Our thanks to the Greenock Celtic Supporters Club for hosting last night’s CQN Lions fundraiser for the Celtic FC Foundation.  We were fortunate to be entertained by Willie Wallace, John Hughes and Bertie Auld, it was a fantastic night, full of laughs.

Special thanks to those who attended and helped raise over £2000 for the Foundation, and to those who promised to get involved with the Foundation.  The club is in good hands with supporters like those in Greenock last night.  Big shout to Joe and Mick for bringing a familiar old friend along.

    Evening all.

I remember the bloated Townsend berating ‘lazy unemployed’ people on the radio.

Surely the Irish are embarrassed that he represented them as he isn’t even Irish.

I had hoped that, instead of employing AT, ITV were going to instead employ a set of nails which would scratch a blackboard during the games. Oh well.

    Leftclicktic,

Brilliant. I’ve always been in the ‘drown them’ camp rather than ‘hope they roast in the sun’ viewpoint. They really do look miserable in the rain, while it’s the next day they suffer from the sun and we can’t have the fun of witnessing that. That’s my human weakness speaking, of course.

As a wee aside. We were sitting trapped in the car, like yourself, and my wee maw, God rest her, who was the nicest person in the world, suddenly said “You know, I’m just sitting here watching these wee wummin walking past in their drearly lilac and I’m thinking, everyone of them is uglier than the one in front and the one in the very front is as ugly as sin”.

Your Mum was spot on and I have wondered about that ugliness myself at times.

Maybe some qualified CQNer could explain.

If my 90yr auld da was in a care home in Brighton and disappeared tae France without anybody knowing,I would be asking serious questions of the staff.

I noticed that any time Izzy moved forward, a team mate slotted into his position.

A luxury he doesn’t always enjoy at CP.

Perhaps Deila may move Izzy further forward into midfield.

I wish this game was on Alba, to save me listening to the a@@@@@e Andy Townsend.

  6. They are deid. Liquidated. This is a dead parrot club.

I am conflicted as to my options if we ever have to play them.

Going to the game would validate their resurrection

not going would deny my club my support.

Och this internal dialogue is for another day.

    Billybhoy, evening.

In my experience, the British are not blessed with great looks generally. Davie Dodds’ DNA continues to multiply. One of the many blessings of immigration is an increase in beauty.

Celtic are the only Scottish team to have registered players at the world cup – those you mentioned.

Without checking Wikipedia for every world cup back to 1930, I would comfortably predict that this is the first world cup where Celtic have supplied every player who plays in Scotland,

Mind you, given that Celtic are “Scotland’s Champions League Team” (- a tag line I think Celtic should be using), that perhaps isn’t surprising.

  15. jimmci,

I was going to say the same thing an hour ago. Charlie is the best crosser of a ball I have ever seen in a Celtic jersey. I have said more than once on here he is my favourite Celtic player. Mind you, he had Big Billy to get on to the end of those crosses he put over. Etched in my memory. Brilliant.

Just think what we would have won with a level playing field.

  16. Can remember being in the Newmarket bar Bannockburn after Raith Rovers beat us in 1995 . A guy that ran the PMS bus from St Ninians a proper diehard said to me I don ‘t know where we go from here. The both of us were near to tears . The point being if somebody had said to me then we would be were we are today I would have laughed in there face . The board don’t get everything right in fact are wrong in a lot of things but these are good times and we should never forget just how bad things were before .

  20. Almajir who covers Birmingham City for Often Partisan echoed Clark’s disappointment in Allan during his discussion with Rangers Report.

“He’s got talent – he can pass a ball and he’s got vision, but he has no work ethic at all. His loan with Birmingham was a waste of his time and ours. We tried to send him back to West Bromwich Albion and they wouldn’t have him back.” Clark had alluded to the fact that the player & team wanted Allan to return to West Brom but they didn’t want him back.

“Scott Allan had a bad attitude, no work ethic & was not a team player. He was described by a couple of local journos as a ‘waster’”.

    “You don’t want him!”

A bit of a damnng report on Sleekits latest transfer hope,Scott Allen.Hunted from every club he has been loaned to.

  21. TTT , PCS. I also find the inability to take shies unbelievable, but with new gut the movement off the ball should make it easy.

My bugbear for last 12 years that with the amount of corners Celtic have in each game, they never place anyone in the centre of 18 yd box to shoot when it comes out. More important, amazed that Celtic players don’t attack near post at corners. It would be interesting to see how many goals Larsson scored or flicked to goal scorer by attacking near post.

  22. I hope if I ever end in a care home I will be free to go for a bevvy or a trip to the library or whatever I fancy.

Anything else will be a prison.
