Error in positions. Racism in spate

463

Just as a year ago, we lost the first game of the season against Newco, but the similarities end with the result.  Celtic bossed the first half and created the better chances in an even second period.  Goals change games and when Kyogo Furuhashi centred a cross for Odsonne Edouard, the game should have changed.  Instead, Odsonne took his eye off the ball, which bounced off his heel and ran to safety.

One week ago today, despite scoring six against St Mirren, I urged Ange Postecoglou to play Kyogo through the middle, if necessary moving Odsonne to the left.  He started Kyogo on the left yesterday and although Celtic enjoyed the bulk of possession, they were blunt in front of goal; Odsonne’s miss starkly demonstrating the point.  It was a foreseeable error from Ange, which he later accepted.

Although Newco were unable to keep possession throughout the first half, at home, exclusively in front of their own fans, news of their demise was exaggerated.  They survived the torrent when required and adjusted their game plan at halftime.  From that point, Celtic were no more than equal in the contest until Kyogo moved into the middle on 70 minutes.

After Kygo shot from a tight angle, Ryan Christie reacted animatedly towards his teammate, presumably complaining that the Japanese striker did not square the ball for him to finish in front of goal.

I’m never keen on Celtic players shouting at each other and suspect this show of agitation contributed to Kyogo passing instead of shooting moments later, when the clear shot at goal was on.  Our Imperious Icon could be forgiven for wondering why bother laying chances on a plate for others after Edouard’s earlier miss.

Just like the first goal we lost to Newco last season, yesterday’s goal was lost from a set piece but I’m not pressing the panic button on this one.  Last year we were unable to form a straight defensive line, it was largely the central defenders who were causing the problems.  The defenders were correctly marshalled yesterday, the goal was lost because none of the others picked up a late runner.

The transformation in Celtic in such a short period has been beyond any of our expectations.  We will continue to improve and I expect will top the table after Newco’s visit on 2 January.  In losing twice so early, however, we have put ourselves under unwelcome pressure.  Playing the beautiful stuff is not always rewarded.

Last week they came after the Japanese, yesterday, they came after the Irish.  Racism in Scotland is in spate, it was even given a police escort post-match in Glasgow yesterday.  It is not the responsibility of Celtic to win so often that the mob have no opportunity to wreak havoc on the city.

Our political leaders and police cannot ignore this problem away.  Scotland is home to many cultures, creeds and ethnicities.  All will suffer unless the laws of the land are enforced.

  1. I listened to a report earlier today.

In the past 10 seasons, English clubs have spent 9 BILLION POUNDS on transfer fees.

    That is 9000 millions.

    £9,000,000,000.

As a small example, Wolves record spend is £45m. Aye Wolves.

    Someone will buy Eddie.

  2. I hope I’m wrong but we have all the ingredients of flat-track bullies. When we’re at home or playing inferior opposition, we’ll hit teams for six (literally in some cases) but might struggle when the level of opposition is raised.

We have a Scott Brown-sized hole in our midfield (peak Scott Brown, not the one for the last couple of seasons) and it doesn’t seem that Ange fully trusts Soro. Despite his early promise, I have to say I agree with Ange.

While the improvement is there for all to see, we can’t hide from the fact that our away record reads P5 W1 D0 L4 in all competitions.

We’re on the right track but we might need to temper expectations.

  3. Shortie can’t quite get the words oooot in thur headline…..

Sectarianism is a cop-out….( pardon the expression)

Racism points the finger rightly at scoddland, Scotland’s Shame and Scotland’s Finest..

But they can’t quite say it………Like “liquidation” certain words can’t be stomached.

    Aye……..

And thon wan wi the Hiberno soundin’ name is just another patsy ( pardon the expression)

The euro defeat in champions league was a gimme given the lack of pre/ time before the game.

We beat AZ over 2 games to qualify for europa league, there is no point in looking at the game independent of the other.

Hearts game away was poor because of poor defending and a bain brain fart. We could easily have won that game.

Sevco game like hearts game was decided by a set play but again we could easily have won.

Sevco supporter with enjoy the victory but I think on reflection they may wanna consider how easily celtic failed to convert 4 or 5 great chances, a celtic team without first picks at centreback, rightback, leftback, right wing and left wing. That’s half a team

The hatred and vitriol aimed at Taylor is not a pleasant sight. It’s not his fault he isn’t Tierney. He gives his all every time he pulls on a Celtic top. Is he good enough? No probably not. Just curious if everyone on here is a superstar at their own profession? Would they stand for the bile if it was directed at them? People should remember that Taylor is a Celtic player.

It just so happened that my officers were passing as an assault was taking place. Standing back and videoing the occurance, we have hard evidence and a line of enquiry to follow up on at a later date.

As the full murder had not yet taken place, our officers did not feel able to intervene without concerns for their own safety.

Now now HS!! Most on here know there was no tweet, just Bada getting knickers twisted in their haste to have another go at Taylor. Best ignored…”

It is not possible to KNOW there was no Tweet and Bada has often shown that he is aware of certain matters before most of us are.

I do agree, though , with your next post suggesting that Taylor is a reasonable enough player. I have no problem with him.

  9. First half we dominated & my son & grandson both said we need to get a goal during this spell.

We got balls into the box in that spell but Eddie was either not there or fluffed his golden chance.

2nd half they rearranged and high pressed us keeping us on our own half for at least 20 minutes.

At times we had Eddie & Abada deep in their own half defending/closing down opponents

Our out ball from this very high press was a punt downfield but they usually came straight back.

Morelos has always manufactured fouls simply by getting in front defenders & as soon as he feels a touch he goes down. But he specialises in that art in the last third. Yesterday he was joined by others wearing blue. Clearly a tactical ploy from Beale to win free kicks within site of our goal to exploit our lack of height or vulnerability. That ploy and corners were their only real threat in my view. Our defence coped well.

The lazy headline writers had a ball claiming that Rangers were worthy winners.

For me they were lucky – lucky that we didn’t have a man pickup Helander. We had four players to their four but he ended up making that late run.

They were also lucky that Eddie fluffed his golden chance, and lucky again when Kyogo twice had the ball at his feet on a one to one with McCrorie & we didn’t score.

They were lucky that Clancy was happy to buy the simulation form Morelos & others in blue all afternoon in our third, yet was seemingly unaware that in the rest of the pitch that sort of simulation hardly featured.

It was a very close game & as others have said, they threw everything at us and were delighted to win.

On that issue, why was there no official intervention as their fans pelted every Celtic player with whatever debris they could find. Police, stewards, officials all appeared to do nothing from my long distance perch. I saw 2 groundsmen clearing some of the trash at one point but nothing further. A UEFA view if this took place during one of their games would result in a sizeable fine for the home club.

The odious singing pre KO, the pelting of opponents, the simulation didn’t add to the colour of the event as some commentators would have it – it merely confirmed what we all saw reflected in the police escorted walk back into the city centre. Bile & bigotry festival.

All this mince about glad to see the fans back was puerile crap for me.

Ange will have learned & it may be that honours between us will be even this year after our home game against them. I hope anyway.

Taylor didn’t like that tweet. It is another Greg Taylor account. Not our bhoy.

  11. There was an element of groundhog day with yesterday’s goals.

Decent inswinger to backpost and tallest guy on the pitch has a free header and scores.

Until the manager sorts that and learns from mistakes of last 18 months we will occasionally flatter at home and regularly come unstuck against teams with some tactical nous.

I am not suggesting he is anymore than a decent SPFL player, but if we had taken a low risk punt on someone like Declan Gallagher, we would have someone to attack the ball when defending and would have picked up a result in at least 1, possibly 2 of the games in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Denmark.

I suspect we could have got him for £3/4k a week on a 2 year deal, and even if he only played 10/12 games the money would be well spent.

In the same vein, after the racist chanting re Kyogo, we were told the `Rangers` were investigating the matter. I asked at the time: If a murder took place at Ibrox, would it be OK to let `Rangers` investigate the crime?

Flair players coming in are always great.

A striker and Winger for greater strength in depth are necessary and a good choice.

Some physical players at left back, centre half and midfield are required.

Win the battle and Celtic’s football is better than every other side in Scotland.

If Ali McCann is wanted, get him between today and tomorrow.

If Porteous was wanted and available at a good price, he might be a good move (not saying I know anything but looking at our league there are not so many players we could get in. Perhaps a loan from somewhere in England tomorrow.

Eddy, Barkas, Ajeti, Griff, Bolingoli and maybe even one or two others out the door tomorrow and replacements must be sought.

I really hope we get the 5 above out and at least 3 more in.

    Taylor

My understanding is that the issue is that he “liked” a picture/comment on Instagram regarding the Hun victory.

The defence is that he “accidentally liked” it.

I know the square root of hee-haw about Instagram.

I am advised by Squire Junior that – even allowing for alcohol-related misadventures – he has never “accidentally liked” anything on Instagram and finds the stated excuse implausible.

He suggests it is difficult to “accidentally like” something on Instagram, ie mistakenly do so.

I should add that otherwise neither he nor I have an axe to grind with Taylor as a player, who we both agree is limited but a trier.

  18. While proceeding along Argyle Street my officers happened upon a jaunty glee club jamboree.

As both were moving in a westerly direction my officers returning to Paisley Road West station, they took a very public serviced decision to make sure the young chaps got safely to their destination.

Allthough sporting some barely visible insignia of a sporting institution, it is unfair to jump to a conclusion that they were Rangers supporters or indeed that of any other club based around that area or playing in blue during that day.

As my Head of Diversity and Inclusion has mentioned, our officers are trained to know when an offensive , racist or indeed any other “ist” is taking place, but it is vital to understand that if someones perception is that an “ist” is taking place, then you must see their point and accept an offence is indeed taking place.

As neither of the officers perceptions was that they were offended, then offcourse no offence is taking place. This was further proofed when the mounted policeman joined the front of the parade astride his big white horse Willem Oranje, and neither he or the horse heard anything remotely offensive eithers.

Holding his batton straight out he directed the 4 motorbike constables to proceed ahead and they did their thing of blocking off the side roads so the procession could make steady progress along the queens highway

even having the good sense to allow the locals to hurriedly shutter their shops while gathering their children from the streets.

End to end the hwole event only took 40 minutes, and not a single citizen of glasgow was impacted in any way whatso ever,

The group went right at edminston drive, my officers continued on up to the station, and the chaps were last seen cheering the arrival of some Bussed in opponents.

We await a retraction and apoligy from that Humza guy.

In yer dreams. All part of the continuing PLC con.

Squad’s as weak as pisswater. The Board have made a killing this window – season books sold out, wage bill slashed, huge profit to come in transfer fees, merchandise sales, cash in bank restored.

Got bullied out yesterday’s game as predicted. We’re much richer than our rivals, but with an inferior team.

Does the PLC and it’s cronies (you know who you are!) care? Not on your nellie. If they did, we would use our financial power to ensure we were untouchable,

They’ve always known they could exploit the emotional attachment of the fans by pulling a few levers at the right time. Reading all the self-deluding pish after yesterday’s match confirms as much. We’re on the right track, we’re getting closer yada, yada.

The PLC gaslit the fans all last season, robbed them blind. But they knew if the could just sacrifice Lennon at the right moment, promise a bright new dawn with a new leader and kid them on they were making serious investment in the team, they would keep coming back. And sure enough, they were right.

This team isn’t winning this league, it even close. But their lackeys will keep spinning the false hope tropes. Because they pay very well don’t you know.

I’m off now in case tough guy Martim comes for me. 💪

  26. No doubt we had the chances to put yesterday’s game to bed , and as many of us feared the inevitable happened , after many chances to get the ball into our box via head scratching decisions of dubious foul play they made one count . When are we going to get a bit of height in our defence . Yesterday’s game was a bit to much for some of our boys , the stinking atmosphere would put anyone off , but we also had players who have experienced it all before and have bottled it before big time and who did the same yesterday , no names as we know who they were . We need bruisers in the middle of the park , guys of the aitken , hay , auld , Brogan mould who couldn’t wait to get into them . Yesterday we knew early on some who we depend on weren’t up for it , there seems to be something about those manky blue jerseys that puts a fear into our players , it’s been happening for a few seasons now , we don’t have the players to combat them . I am probably going to upset a few here ,but I wouldn’t mind seeing some right tough nuts in the team at the expense of a couple of our more silky players , or better still if we can afford real tough nuts who can play a bit too .
