Ethics, Fifa, support for Beram

823

Remember when Barcelona were regarded as the model of an ethical football club?    I don’t know if it’s just every time I see Tumbling Neymar that I feel a little less affinity with brand Barca but that image has proven to be a mirage.

The clubs tax affairs, specifically over compensation to Lionel Messi, brought it into more disrepute than could be compensated for by the ethically immaculate (cough) ‘Qatar’ emblazoned across their shirts.  Tax is not just for the wee guys.

Now Fifa (you know you have issues when these guys can get moralistic with you) have banned the club from signing players for the next two transfer windows and a fine of 450k Swiss francs after investigations into the signing of 10 foreign minors over the period 2009-2013.  Their accomplices, the Spanish FA, were fined 500 Swiss francs for their role in the episode.

We’ll see if the Spanish FA have the equivalent of What-school-did-you-go-to Ogilvie in charge, who is able to arbitrarily change which transfer windows the ban applies to, in order to assist the club.

Speaking of Ogilvie, after leaving now-liquidated Rangers he continued his work at Hearts, who administrator Bryan Jackson yesterday admitted were themselves facing liquidation.  Ogilvie had a legal responsibility for Rangers during the period they introduced the ruinous EBT scam, some of which was found to be illegal during the First Tier Tribunal, the remainder of which is currently subject to an Upper Tribunal deliberation.

Indeed, the man, who remains president of the SFA, pocketed a £93k EBT, but he can claim no credit for the liquidation of Hearts, which was brought about by the liquidation of the club’s shareholders and lenders.  If there were two clubs in the whole world you would ask karma to liquidate……….

Before you react to this acknowledged possibility, check, are you a fan, or player and fan?  If you are a fan, feel free to proclaim the situation loudly.  If you are player and fan, stop.  The SFA don’t want you proclaiming an acknowledged possibility, as though you were a fan.  Hearts are going bust, but the only man in football allowed to say this is the Hearts administrator.

I see a bit of push-back against Beram Kayal, which is harsh.  After a very promising start Beram is increasingly out of the picture at Celtic and needs to construct a narrative for himself and potential future employers.  Everything he said was almost certainly true: he was ‘done’ by Lee McCulloch, leaving him with a poor first-hand experience of our game.  Why would he retain a love for a league which is offers him nothing?

The comments about Liverpool and Manchester United showing an interest in him prior to his injury tells you lots about how the game works.  Promising, though he was, he was never in this class, but all clubs watch hundreds of players every year.  I see no reason why his agent would be unable to get Beram scouted by a couple of top English clubs.  This would have been reported to the player, but should not be confused as being a qualified interest.

Doc and 67Heaven it is Celtics role to challenge the football authorities when there is not a demonstrable level playing field. Celtic are a member of the football authorities and have a duty to act against corruption to keep the game honest in scotland.

In my opinion they are failing in that duty.

    —————————————————————–

It may well be the role of clubs to keep the football authorities in check, but it is not a lone club role, neoprene a role any one club could carry out to any degree of success without the co-operation of a majority of other clubs. It’s a football community, not a domain for one club to lord over.

Celtic have taken on board Res.12, this may well be the conduit that allows a legal challenge. We don’t know the outcome yet.

Patience is not an easy thing to maintain, but I’m trying.

67Heaven, we are all frustrated as hell with the continued cheating, lack of transparency, achhhh you know the rest.

  2. Lee McCullochs two worst tackles IMO were when he went in with a straight leg on the Hearts keeper. The other was at his most sleekit. In the process of falling he has a wee look behind him and notices Nakamura lying on the ground. Falling backwards he then intentionally tramps on Nakamuras head.

    A coward IMO.

  5. JOHN HUGHES is the seventh-highest goalscorer in Celtic history. He is a genuine club legend; a spectacular, awesome player in his prime.

John was affectionately known as ‘Yogi Bear’ after the popular TV cartoon character at the time. Celtic Park would reverberate to raucous chant of ‘Feed The Bear’ when Hughes was in rollicking action.

He fired in 189 goals in his eleven eventful years in the Hoops and became a cult figure with the supporters.

Now Yogi has decided to lift the lid on his remarkable life and times in an explosive autobiography. As you might expect, he pulls no punches in the book which is due to be published in mid-April.

John is publishing the book himself and CQN has been more than happy to assist Yogi in every way possible. As a preview to the blockbuster, we have selected six exclusive edited chapters from the book, aptly named ‘Yogi Bare’. These will appear in the next edition of CQN Magazine which should be out in two weeks.

Mc Culloch did the young Albion Rovers Dallas off the ball. Play had stopped for a foul and he crashed the young lad and put him out for the rest of the season.

  10. Neil Lennons jacket was on a shortly nail at 3-0 down to Killie.

I think I heard him say that he most probably would have resigned if we had lost at Killie that day.

Beram Kayals performance in that first half was an utter disgrace.

He had delusions of grandeur and believed he was being seriously courted by Man U ,he was mid way through negotiating a new contract and believed that if Celtic did not meet his demands he would force an exit.

He tried to work his ticket.

He knew that he may be costing Neil Lennon his job.

He didn’t care ,he behaved like a petulant spoiled brat.

How Neil Lennon forgave him ,I’ll never know.

If I had been in charge ,he would never have pulled on a Celtic shirt again.

He showed his true character that day.

As did Anthony Stokes ,Charlie Mulgrew and James Forrest.

He has been taught a tough lesson.

I am sorry that he is not the player that I once thought he would be.

Alternatively I will shed no tears when he eventually is sold or leaves.

    From a poster on TSFM

“Regan’s abject statements regarding the semi-finals at Ibrox, Lunny’s latest piece of selective enforcement, his total failure to address a myriad of issues surrounding the Ibrox club, its fans and its management, the LNS fiasco, the continuing Ogilvie outrage, etc, etc- exactly when do the clubs who make up the SFA intend actually doing something about the situation? We have now reached a point where the SFA has lost any respect it ever had from the vast majority of fans.

I applaud Auldheid’s efforts to cast some light on the shadowy dealings of the SFA, and good luck to him and to TSFM in that venture, but once again, where are the clubs? Why are they allowing an unacceptable state of affairs to continue? Dare I suggest that in any other country in Europe, there would have been a total clearout of the SFA midden, starting at the top with Regan and Ogilvie? What is it about Scotland, that the clubs think it is just fine that the fans, who pay for the whole show in the end, have now totally lost confidence in the impartiality of the ruling body?

Dundee Utd are now paying the price for leaving Ogilvie in post last year. I wonder if they now regret not putting forward an alternative candidate? But of course, it’s always the problem with being a member of a corrupt organisation, and turning a blind eye because you’ve not been directly affected. Sooner or later the day comes when it’s your turn to be on the wrong end of the partiality that seems to be woven into the very fabric of the SFA. And when it happens to you, you stand alone, because this is Scotland, and that’s the way things are.

Until the clubs get a grip of this, Scottish football is heading rapidly down the pan. Still, not to worry, Ogilvie will be off to UEFA soon, mission accomplished in Scotland, and I’m sure Walter Smith will be happy to fill the vacancy”.

The Kayal video that was posted earlier makes him look better than he was. I always though he was a liability – seemed to have the positional sense of Thomas Graveson.

Off to Dublin in the green tonight. Haven’t been for a while. Any good music venue tips?

Will never forget this game Big Yogi above the rest, when they cleared the Straw was like concrete underneath.

In January 1965 he had an awesome game in the 8-0 win over Aberdeen at a frosty Parkhead when John played in ‘sannies’ and kept his feet to tremendous effect, scoring a remarkable five goals in the process.

Sky Sports don’t give a toss about Scottish football. They throw a few quid at it because they want to keep the potential audience in Scotland to subscribe for the “greatest league in the world”. They loved the old derby games before they died as it gave them hours of build up and analysis to fill their schedule with. The fall out from the so called shame game kept them going for over a week.

They desperately want Sevco in the Premiership and will do anything they can to peddle the same club myth as they see £££ signs in doing so.

When is the current deal up? BT have sole rights to the CL for the season after next and want to freeze Sky out. I reckon the SPFL will be the next stepping stone for them in doing that.
