Festival day for Celtic

328

There’s going to be a Festival atmosphere as Celtic make their home in Edinburgh for the first time tonight. With the away win already secured, and the opposition little more than tourists, we’ll see little of what Ronny Deila has in store for us this season.

Get through early, car pool, or take bus or train, and show Edinburgh what it’s like to have a great team make their home in the city.

I agree, the club could do so much more as you have suggested.

I wonder if it would also be beneficial for the the CSA etc to play a part in promoting Auldheids idea to ‘spread the load’ of supporting Celtic a bit more across the support worldwide.

I know Celtic have the Overseas scheme but I’m not convinced even 10% of overseas Celtic fans are aware of it.

  3. LIBERTADORES NEWS

Well it’s the first leg of the semi’s this week.

Tomorrow, San Lorenzo (seeded 16) will play host to Bolivar ( 5 ). Tonight, the stage is set at Ascuncion, Paraguay where “the Academy” of National (15) take on “the Violets” of Defensor Sporting ( 6 ), Uruguay.

Neither of these teams have been this far in the tournament before. National progessed by knocking out number one seeds, Velez courtesy of a 2-2 away draw in Buenos Aires after a hard fought 1-0 home win. They then followed this up with another 1-0 home win against Arsenal Sarandi and a surprise 0-0 (it was a turgid game) in Buenos Aires.

Defensor came back from a 2-0 defeat in Bolivia to eliminate The Strongest on penalties and then managed a surprise 3-0 (2-0 away. 1-0 home) aggregate against Colombian side, Nacional.

Tonight National will likely line up in a 4-2-2-2 type formation and are hoping that striker, Fredy Bareiro will have recovered sufficiently from injury to lead the line. Apart from that manager, Gustavo Moringio has virtually a fully fit squad to call from.

Defensor have a few changes to their pre World Cup squad, principally departure of centre back, Gaston Silva (who reportedly left in tears) to Torino and injuries/selection issues in the RB and RM positions where youngster Enrique Etcheverry or favourite Federico Gino and the more established Andrés Fleurquin or injury doubt, Juan Carlos Amado will be the likely choices.

Defensor tend to favour a 4-3-2-1 formation away from home and the prospect of tournament top scorer Nicolas Oliveira (5 goals) leading the line supported by Brasilian, Felipe Gedoz (4 goals) and Giorgan de Arrascaeta usually make them an exciting team to watch. Home or away.

And before somebody says it, Yes. I am biased in favour of Defensor. I really think the boy, de Arrascaeta, will be a big name in football (so that’s his career doomed).

Prediction for tonight : Hard to call after the WC lay off. Tight game whatever way, but probably a narrow. HOME WIN.

  4. Seems Iike there is a points failure delaying trains from glasgow.

Might just be the Central line which is now due in at 17:23.

Poor mates will just have to catch up as I’ll soon be heading to Ryries for a couple of cheeky Hops and Barley cocktails (c).

Look out for the only eijit dressed in his smart work gear!

  5. Dunga officially confirmed as Brasil National manager about an hour ago.

His opening speech pretty blah, blah but one thing he did say was…

Recently during the World Cup I had good conversations with Arrigo Sacchi, Arsene Wenger and Ruud Gullit about the game and in particular what is needed in a player and a team. We are ready to do whatever is necessary to achieve this and accept any criticiam along the way. Our first goal will be to build a side for the 2016 Olympics.

  6. Just took the tram past Murrayfield 4 hours from kick off.

Fluttering above east turnstiles at tram stop were 5 flags …

Uefa, Respect, Icelandic flag, Scottish Saltire and Irish tricolour !!

Put a “” at the start of the speech you want to quote. Then put “ ” at the end of the quote is how I do it.

I’m not sure I would be happy with accepting £12 million for him. The board will see it very differently mind you. For me he is in the top 10 goalkeepers in the world at the moment and his price should reflect that.

Maybe I’m just sick and tired of rich English clubs taking advantage of us because we play in a very poor league. Also, I am not entirely convinced of Craig Gordon’s fitness as a replacement in the long term and see Forster leaving as a further weakening of our squad.

As for Virgil. Hopefully no bids will come in this summer but it is only a matter of time before another English team come in with a derisory offer.

Put two pointy brackets with a letter ” i ” at the start. Same but with a ” /i ” at the end of a quote.

So why Dunga, when he’s already had one World Cup failure, do you think?

  12. LB – deliberately never went that far along.

Had visions of happy Bhoys swan-diving into the Gardens flowerbeds !!

Unless we invest most transfer funds into new signings, I fear our overall strategy will suffer. FF should be kept if we aren’t going to reinvest.

just another tim- i agree too much is made of the league we play in when it comes to a player’s value,a good player is a good player, pay the going rate.

  24. Hi All,

I tend to agree with 90% of the football stuff u post

Ergo u obviously know what ur talking bout

    B-)

  26. If FF was at an EPL now and being sold to Barca he would go for twice what we’d get for him.

Like it or not, that is just how this EPL driven football market works.

Personally, Zaluska has always seemed to do ok, but I suspect that he is doing his coaching badges and will be on our goalie coaching staff.

Goalies are very much like strikers. Confidence will define their form.

captain beefheart- the Russian Roulette system we use is nonsense re the CL.So if we don’t qualify we are left with a side who got horsed in the CL ,minus FF and maybe VVD ? We will have a much lower base starting point to play qualifiers this time next year MO
