Fife, soft tissue and protecting investors

816

A stream of criticism appeared in yesterday’s comments section to greet media coverage of yesterday’s Scottish Cup draw away to Inverness Caledonian Thistle or Dunfermline on 4 February.  Such is our lot (long) after shock cup defeats; remember, these guys literally have to write something.  No one mentioned 1961 so put your money on a trip to Fife next month.

A few moments ago Celtic confirmed Beram Kayal went through his operation yesterday and is now targeting a return to action for preseason.  Irrespective of the circumstances of the incident in which he was injured, Beram’s is another in a long list of soft tissue injuries Celtic players have suffered in recent seasons, a fact which should engage minds at the club.

Rangers issued a really curious statement following the suspension of trading in their shares by the Plus Stock Exchange.  Many Rangers fans have invested thousands of pounds in club shares and bonds, so one would have expected to read the obligatory suggestion from the company that investors take professional advice when addressing the withdrawal of the share disposal service.  Still, at least they didn’t suggest “Rangers Football Club PLC could survive any administration event but feels it would not be the end of the world if it didn’t”.  That kind of comment from those charged to look after their interests really would alarm shareholders.

aye the two cups and not forgetting the Glasgow Cup was always a real money- spinner back in the day before the LC was introduced -plus a Charity Shield option and the oul’ Dryborough Cup could be dusted down the LC back to a home and away league section is another option

Whatever happens,,, there will be a min of two games v thems each season

The tv and 90 min bigots will get what they want

personally, I would see thems tremble to dust

  3. I had a conversation with a Morton fan (who loathes Rangers) and a Saint Mirren fan in the office today.

I asked them how they felt about Rangers demise.

the sooner the better they both said.

I explained , ah but, how you feel about them coming right back into the SPL in a new guise, rangers2012 or some such dafty name.

cant happen they say, it will be like gretna, or livingstone, you go bust, you start again as something new, then you must start at the bottom, after a set time of course, and up against anyone else that wants to apply for the vacant “space” in the league. If you go into admin you get the points penalty and start with that punishment, and …..

i then countered, with what if, right now, pressure is being applied and a case being made that this new company is vital to the health of the game in scotland, and that the voting on them reentering might be by something approaching a select commitee.

to my suprise the saints fan went a bit mental, no way he said, saints had to sell their ground, move hoose, build a new one, with all sorts of demands for compliance, have sold players over the years just to keep going, and now has a hardcore support of less than 3,000. If they came back I am finished, whats the point in bringing through youths if you seriously cant apply the rules to the delinquent teams, its over, his very words.

the morton fan was more pragmatic,

well it could be good to have some new interest in the 3rd division, if they start from there.

remind me, when Juve and AC and whoever else it was was demoted from Seria A, did the Italian league go bust ?

  4. Rangers fans conveniently forget they asked for AND WERE GRANTED a free weekend in December 2007, to avoid the mighty Gretna who could dent their hopes v Lyon the following Wednesday.

    We all remember the outcome-

    Rangers 0 Lyon 3

As Celtic had qualified for the ko stages of the CL the previous week the Huns were in a total state of panic for 7 days in case they failed, and they duly delivered.

What a sitter by Darchville, mind you!

Between this and the 2 cup replays the fixture build up was all their own making.

    It’s quite funny, tbh.

We finished the league on the Thursday at Tannadice that season – cos that’s what usually happens, yes? I mean, the league was never extended, no siree, it always finishes on a Thursday evening.

Dundee Utd had a full squad holiday booked to fly out on Saturday morning as that was a week after (the original) league season was to have ended.

Euro squads are allowed to (and indeed did) call players up two weeks prior to the start of the tournament, or on the Friday as you suggest.

But naw, the season should have extended through until October or something.

    Dignity indeed.

Queen of the South hadn’t played for 5 weeks, IIRC and a delay would have further dulled match sharpness.

    Dignity indeed x 2.

They also forgot to mention that R*ngers contributed to their backlog of fixtures by (sneakily) requesting postponement of an SPL fixture in December to allow them extra time to prepare for their Champions League home match v Lyon….which they subsequently lost 0-3.

The league was extended by 4 days and, despite the SPL deciding that no extension could be granted beyond that date, Gordon Smith offerred to intervene and re-schedule the cup final (without any consultation with cup final opponents Queen of the South). Vested interests, and all that.

I hope Gordon’s parents are seeing more of him these days?

  7. Big story developing in the Copa del Rey.

Rácing are on their way out against Club Deportivo Mirandés, who have never been higher than the regionalised third division (called 2B).

Mirandés won the first leg at home (it’s a town of 40,000 in the province of Burgos) 2-0. Tonight in Santander, they kept it to 0-0 in the first half.

Rácing started well in the second half and got a goal, but then had Bernardo sent off (the boys on Radio Nacional said it was a poor division).

Well, Mirandés were coping well against the ten-man Rácing and a minute ago got and scored a penalty. So it’s 1-1 on the night and Mirandés are going through. There are about 15 minutes to go.

They knocked Villarreal out in the last round. They have never been this far in the cup.

The guy who scored the penalty, Pablo Infante, has just become the top scorer in the competition so far this season. He works in a bank.

  8. listening to R C tonight, some one Jim Delahunt, dawyll,or the Motherwell Supporter mentioned offers for Jellyfish in region of 8 million and 6 milllion, now everybody and their granny no the sons of william are in a bit of bother,so i doubt sums of that nature would be a no no for anyone interested in him.i would say come the 31st if he is still there it would be considerable less.

  9. If they are soo good at remembering their history, why do they constantly forget the favours they have had at other teams expense.

I watch this pantomime not sure what they will do if they go down, I mean the TV’s in Manchester went down for 15 minutes and look at what they done (sorry The Chelsea Fans) done that Night.

It will be a reverse of winning the Champions league. It could be a Tottenham riots all over again, i think there will be looting, I would board up every Celtic shop and put guards at Celtic Park they will not go quietly, as they are the people.

  10. ps,

i remember MWD doing some sort of survey trying to canvas opinion on what might happen with the huns, sorry bud cant remember the the questions or the results, but having had the conversation with fans of other clubs today, they really hadnt a clue whats happening with der hun, and really did think if they went under then ther would be no safety net.

so my point is, get talking to other fans about what might be about to happen, ask their opinions.

pity willie miller and edward are not on much nowadays so we could get views from other sides.

They could have replayed against Hibs in the midweek immediately after the original tie – neither had a game until 9th February, i.e. the next week. Similarly when they drew with Partick in the next round, neither side had a fixture during the midweek immediately after.

Make no mistake— RANGERS WILL NOT GO INTO ADMINISTRATION!!!

You are correct that an Adminisdtrator has a duty to get as much for the assets as possible– ig he chooses to sell them! His first choice would be to sell the “business” as opposed to the assets as a going concern. But no one will take Rangers PLC on a going concern basis and everyone knows it.

So then the Adminsitrator sells the assets for the highest price in the normal scheme of things, and distributes the money among the creditors, having exhausted the assets, the Administrator then appoints himself liquidator and winds up the company.

However, in this instance, Craig Whyte holds a legal document called a floating charge which he “bought” from the Bank of Scotland and which is dated pre 2003 when there was a change in the law.

This document, allows Whyte to appoint a receiver as opposed to an Administrator. The difference between the two is that an Administrator is obliged to act for ALL creditors whereas the Receiver is obliged to act for the benefit of the person who appointed him– namely Whyte.

Under the floating charge Whyte receives secured status over the assets, and so his best bet is to have the receiver appointed and have that receiver transfer the assets to Whyte in satisfaction and settlement of the debts owned by Rangers PLC to Whyte and his group.

That way Whyte gets his hands on the assets in satisfaction of whatever inflated sum he owes on paper and leaves Rangers PLC and its creditors high and dry.

The difficulty then is what to do with the assets because whilst you have a stadium etc you need a licence to play football and to be part of the league structure– and that is something that no Adminitrator or Receiver can pass on to any new company or party.

If Whyte were to allow an Administrator to be appointed he would lose control of the whole insolvency process and possibly the transfer of the assets to his own new company etc.

That is why there will not be an Administrator. It will be a Receiver who is an altogether different beast– purely an agent Whyte!

Yet that will not stop lazy use of the Administration word when that is the very last thing that will actually happen. The league, the press and other fans have seen Administrators come and eventually go– they have never seen anything like what is about to happen here!

  17. Two minutes to go in Santander.

Mirandés are well on top. Rácing can’t get the ball off them.

  18. All over.

Mirandés are through to the quarter final.

  20. All this talk of season extensions is irrelevant anyway – if they wanted true fairness then they would hold their hands up and say they had no damn business being in the later stages of Europe anyway. They defrauded Her Maj’s Revenue and Customs to win titles and later finish 2nd in 06/07 to qualify for that season.

    Extensions?

How about extending some compensation to Sporting Lisbon, Panathinaikos, Werder Bremen and Fiorentina, who could all claim to have been robbed by the tax dodgers of the opportunity of asking their leagues to extend the season (twice).

  21. Half-time in Málaga. 0-0. Real Madrid have a strong team out, but have lost Khedira to an ankle injury.

The first leg was 3-2 to Real Madrid in the end, but with away goals, one goal for Málaga would put them through.

  22. Any advances on previously mentioned

    1. Postponed game prior to CL game(last minute so Celtic couldn’t do the same)

    2. Declined a midweek date I think week we did play AC MILAN(why did we play AC out of sync with rest of CL :>) )

    3. Drew in at least two rounds of Scottish cup whilst fielding weakened teams

And I am sure had a game against some diddy team in Scottish cup postponed At Ibrox because someon turned the sprinklers on in the middle of the night and pitch was waterlogged…

    Least we forget indeed..

  23. Saw some of jamie vardy playing for fleetwood v blackpool. He looked really fast and skilful and gave the blackpool defence the runaround at times. He looks like a good player with lots of potential.
