Fife, soft tissue and protecting investors

816

A stream of criticism appeared in yesterday’s comments section to greet media coverage of yesterday’s Scottish Cup draw away to Inverness Caledonian Thistle or Dunfermline on 4 February.  Such is our lot (long) after shock cup defeats; remember, these guys literally have to write something.  No one mentioned 1961 so put your money on a trip to Fife next month.

A few moments ago Celtic confirmed Beram Kayal went through his operation yesterday and is now targeting a return to action for preseason.  Irrespective of the circumstances of the incident in which he was injured, Beram’s is another in a long list of soft tissue injuries Celtic players have suffered in recent seasons, a fact which should engage minds at the club.

Rangers issued a really curious statement following the suspension of trading in their shares by the Plus Stock Exchange.  Many Rangers fans have invested thousands of pounds in club shares and bonds, so one would have expected to read the obligatory suggestion from the company that investors take professional advice when addressing the withdrawal of the share disposal service.  Still, at least they didn’t suggest “Rangers Football Club PLC could survive any administration event but feels it would not be the end of the world if it didn’t”.  That kind of comment from those charged to look after their interests really would alarm shareholders.

Clyde tonight is a must listen .

There are far too many comments from the show tonight that require comment that I would struggle to keep up .

An interesting little snippet on local news here related to the Cup Derby between Notts Forest and Leicester and a piece which appeared on You Tube later of Forest Fans at the match singing to a tune the Orcs know well ” You think you’re English well you’re not any more. ” Leicester for those who don’t know has a significant Asian population.

Police are now investigating what they describe as a “hate crime.” Racism related to football is very topical down here currently what with Suarez, Terry, the laddie from OLdham et al. Wonder what the Scots police will be doing about the abuse directed at Pat Fenlon?

  3. Ain’t it amazing how all these journalists knew all about the Tax Case for years!!! Radio Clyde ‘….Rangers knew that the EBTs were dodgy for the last three years…’

Keevins was aware of acres of newsprint!!!

Plus market suspended Rangers’ shares not the other way round. If you have an interest in a company where share trading is suspended you should be very afraid, If Rangers are planning to release accounts (audited) to shareholders on 31 Jan 2012 they will still be none the wiser re: the big Tax case, a real journalist would be asking ‘…what’s the real reason why Rangers auditors are unable to sign off the accounts? & What has really caused the Plus market to suspend share transactions?…’ Answers on a postcard to the Laptop Loyal!

  4. A wee slip of the tongue there from wee dawell me thinks re the uefa licence.

The hun have to satisfy the sfa that they don’t own any money to the HMRC or players, owing money to players is a new one on me, me thinks he knows something :>)

‘in terms of rule 14 the board cannot act on it’s own discretion’

    I realise that.

Paul 67 however has said that the SPL and ‘a member club of the SPL’ have both made it known that they have received legal advice that the decision to admit a newco huns would be one for the board alone.

It’s not a view I can square with my reading of the SPL’s articles but if it’s correct, and the decision is for the board alone, then it’s a foregone conclusion what the outcome would be, for the reason I said.

I think the media are taking a scatter gun approach to Celtics search for a new striker. It is obvious they have no idea who we are talking to so are throwing names about on the hope they might be lucky and hit the right name. I think until an announcement is made by Celtic we should take any media induced rumours with a large pinch of salt.H.H.

  10. UEFA banned today PAOK from Europe for not complying with license demands.

PAOK owe money to the players and tax office. They can’t play in Europe in next three years. PAOK have to pay 250 000 Euros penalty.

    ‘Ernie

Surely the SPL TV deal was drawn up with a R*ngers FC in current form not a Newco FC?’

Good luck making that argument to the Court of Session.

Newco/oldco: a distinction without a difference as far as TV ££££ goes.

  12. Brilliant quote re: Whyte on FF…

    see ya !!

    NL to decide, however –

    he’s the boss !

  14. If NewCo manged to do a deal to get them into the SPL, where will their players come from because correct me if I am wrong if they suffer liquidation then the players’ can walk away for nothing.

Why would they hang around waiting for NewCo when they can get a fat signing-on fee and boost their wages.

In the unlikely event of a NewCo it could only be Div.3, that will do for me, as in the scenario above they will never attract players and wont get out of Div.3

  15. Jungle Jim , it’s right at the bottom of the page , in the ad-hoc situation – apparently it gives the top a “more european feel” !!

  16. Last caller on Clyde asked whether a newco huns would be allowed into the SPL.

Dawyll King said it would be up to the members.

He’s an idiot, but he’s usually on message.

At least people are starting to ask the question.

  17. Ernie

Hence why I believe it would be a good idea to preempt the possible Newco situation by employing a solicitor to provide an opinion and if required put it to the SPL via supporters association/supporters trusts/clubs smaller shareholders requesting they the SPL convene a GM to amend any rules/articles that would afford any Newco of any club the opportunity to re-establish in the SPL for the sake of integrity, transparency and fairness.

Bear in mind that the company and the board will not want to do anything that will lead to mayhem or a court challenge.

    —————————-

Exactky! If the debate has demonstrtaed anything it is that the rules are open to interpretation and that allows for a challenge.

There is a tactic employed by whoever to sow disinformation into the main stream media and not challenge it there. That produces the assumption it must be true and no one questions it when the publicised process is used.

That is of course where the Internet comes in and raises sufficient awareness to ask questions and prevent skullduggery.

good to see we continue to identify youngsters with potential. looks like the board have decided to take a long term approach to bringing in players. good thing about this is good young players will look at celtic and fancy their chances.

    ————————–

I assume you are referring to guys of 19 – 22 who we get for other clubs.

Given tha this seems to be working, do you think we should scrap everything below under 19 ?

If you look at our youth development , we have produced two / three top drawer players in the last 25 years McGeady & McStay.

For each of those, there are another two dozen guys who do us a short term job over anything from 6 months to 3 years – Wallace, Beattie, Marshall etc etc.

By comparison clubs like Hibs , Hearts even Rankers have produced guys whom either they sell for significant value and or establish themselves as Scotland internationals over 4 / 5 years.

So question is, do we scrap everything up to U17 , and then pick up on the McGeouchs at age 17 / 18 .

    Just a thought.

It went off when I heard Daziel say in reply to a Tim who asked about the possibility of a deal being struck with HMRC:-

“What is it with this country and Celtic fans saying good!”

I’m shaking with anger that the horrible little, bigot, runt won’t even be pulled up for such a disgraceful comment.

I’ll tell you what’s wrong with this country ya wee bawbag, the fact that 20,000 scum bags can sing songs of hate and then be praised by politicians and chief constables. There’s your problem right there!!!

Heard a guy on snyde last week after believing the LL spin of CW in talks to do a deal with HMRC for 5m

Nae worries we will just sell jellyfeet and pay the big tax bill

I wonder if he will be on this week now that CW has hinted at the 49m bill

Seems to me that ragers have plenty of players they can sell who are untidy on the ball unfortunately they are all just untidy none of them are MESSI

Just read it….it is funny! Also liked this : ” The crest of Peñarol of Uruguay has 11 stars for the 11 players,[38] and a twelfth is to be added for the supporters, the “12th Man”.

Should we add another 50,000 + to our shirts? o:-)

Chuckling all the way as I switched between the phone in’s on Synde and Unreal.

But had a wee thought regarding the whole divorce case thing.

Would Mrs CW’s lawyers not be able to freeze his assest in the event of either the tax case or liquidation? (In much the same way as HMRC did to Rankers)

If so this could become even more messy than any of us dared dream.

Oh if wishes could come true.. anybody got the number of Heather Mill’s lawyers?

The SPL is a private company.

It’s not obliged to enter into dialogue with anyone other than its members and the regulatory authorities about how it deals with its internal affairs.

You can ask them a question, but they don’t have to answer.

The people we should be targetting are the Celtic board.

You really have to get a link to the whole show tonight .I don’t know if the PLUS market suspension has flicked a switch but there is definitely a change in stance from the LL .

“Manchester City’s crest has three stars to give it a “more continental feel”.[39] The 3 stars do not represent titles or trophies. Many opposition fans mock this as a lack of understanding of European football on City’s part due to the club only playing in Europe’s top club competition once prior to Sheikh Mansour’s ownership.”

Funny, isn’t it? Ironically City have won the title and the cup on occasion but what were they thinking when they decided on that?

Mind you their first title win in the 1920s has an air of Cityitis about – think they are the only english club to be relegated the year after being champions!
