Fine-tuning Tommy Burns methods

Almost exactly 10 years after Celtic fans alleged Porto’s adherence to the rules was less than faithful, when they won the Uefa Cup after extra time, their creative genius, Deco, failed a drugs test a substance used to mask performance-enhancing substances were found in his blood.

Is anyone surprised?

Congratulations to the Celtic under-20 team on securing league and cup double, the fourth consecutive season Celtic youths have recorded this achievement.  John Kennedy and Stevie Frail’s operation is years ahead of what was previously known as their domestic competition.

Celtic have been fine-tuning youth development since Tommy Burns returned from Amsterdam all those years ago with new strategies, some of which are still being used.  The cream graduate as Champions League players, but Celtic are pretty much running elite-level youth development in Scotland, a fact made clear when you look at the enormous number of Celtic training academy graduates earning a living across the rest of the league.

It used to be the case that Celtic wasted young talent.  Perceived wisdom was “Go to Aberdeen or Dundee United, they’ll turn you into a player”.  The opposite is now true.

petec – I honestly don’t know mate.It is only a matter of time before his Tory government are going to put the squeeze on the likes of him, just the same as they are bleeding all the rest of us.

Always be in debt my friend – that is my policy – always owe money to these crooks – they are drowning in a sea of debt – they are going to come looking for money, but if don’t have any money, they may look elsewhere – that Philvisreturns client,if i was him,i would be really worried just now.

    Good morning CQners,

Over recent days I’ve been reminded of someone I worked with back in the early seventies in the DHSS office in Frederick St, Belfast.

His name was Norman (I’m afraid time has taken its toll and I can’t for the life of me remember his surname) and he was a lunatic Cliftonville supporter. In those days Cliftonville invariably found themselves at the bottom of the league but that never diminished Norman’s enthusiastic passion for his club.

Good luck to all Cliftonville supporters, and Norman if he’s still around, for tomorrow’s cup final.

I swear to God,i am glad that you are a Tim,seriously.

  23. 16 Roads – why thank you kind sir …. although I think the drink may have clouded your eyesight a little :-) Good to meet you, enjoy the cup final tomorrow!

BMCUWP – Great to see you again bud, and thanks again for organising and bringing so many fine CQN folk together! Hope you have enjoyed your time back home and work is kind to you on Sunday!

Minx, look after it. I’ll need to get a new one en-route to the North Stand next Saturday:-)

    petec – powerful choon.

It’s all in the mind my friend, don’t get me wrong – it is also nice to have some kind of drug, like ACGR’s whiskey to help you along – you look out of the window, and the weather is dull and dreary, but you see that little beam of sunshine shining through…and the singing of the birds(not gulls or magpies, they are hun-like birds).

No matter what – things could always be worse – you could be a zombie hun.

That’s the way i see it.

proudbhoy – I was thinking that myself, just as long as he’s not from Derry – the last thing the club needs at this moment in time.

Shamrock Rovers all the way,and Cliftonville…obviously.

Not Derry City or Linfield,or that old zombie club from Glasgow.

Our board cheated and us the fans paid the price and accepted it. Now were back . Cup holders and currently 2 nd in league.

Regards cliftonville- my father who is in his 60’s and been brandywell regular all his life said they were some of the worst to visit brandywell over the years.

Less said about the tallaght hoops the better. Been called a brit and saw there behaviour too many times to wish nothing but no success for them.

Saw hoopslegend Billy Stark in Debenhams yesterday.

When he played against us for Aberdeen I didn’t rate him as one of the leading Northern lights in a very strong team but once he signed for us you could see what a smashing player he was [ and always had been].
