Fine-tuning Tommy Burns methods

Almost exactly 10 years after Celtic fans alleged Porto’s adherence to the rules was less than faithful, when they won the Uefa Cup after extra time, their creative genius, Deco, failed a drugs test a substance used to mask performance-enhancing substances were found in his blood.

Is anyone surprised?

Congratulations to the Celtic under-20 team on securing league and cup double, the fourth consecutive season Celtic youths have recorded this achievement.  John Kennedy and Stevie Frail’s operation is years ahead of what was previously known as their domestic competition.

Celtic have been fine-tuning youth development since Tommy Burns returned from Amsterdam all those years ago with new strategies, some of which are still being used.  The cream graduate as Champions League players, but Celtic are pretty much running elite-level youth development in Scotland, a fact made clear when you look at the enormous number of Celtic training academy graduates earning a living across the rest of the league.

It used to be the case that Celtic wasted young talent.  Perceived wisdom was “Go to Aberdeen or Dundee United, they’ll turn you into a player”.  The opposite is now true.

Despite some residents preferring the tag Londonderry they do sing about ‘Derry’s’ walls. Did they sell out so that a line in a song could scan?

Genuine question for the Norn Iron contingent:

I’ve noticed that the media increasingly refer to the city of Derry as “Derry/Londonderry” which frankly sounds daft, but is presumably designed to be inoffensive to anyone. What do the residents call the city these days – is it still generally split according to one’s political/religious background?

Supposedly the unionist people are meant to call it londonderry as they are i favour of british rule.. Nationalist people who favour irish freedom would be calling it derry.

The media mix it up, our council is called derry city council. Our airport is city of derry airport. The times they are a changing.

Derry/londonderry is to try and please everyone as politicians are very quick to complain.

No, not related….it’s just that…when I was a youngster – I played football the way that a certain – Kevin Gallacher played for Dundee United. I badly wanted us to sign KG.

Now – Utd have unearthed yet another gem of a player and…I see the same mistake being made – either by Neil or whovever else is dragging their erse.

Did you know that it is a “Shire” – as in Cambridgeshire? Just shows you how much the English thought of the place…and how much the natives loved English gold.

There is a saying that goes “BE the change that you want to see in the world”

If for example a person wants a more tolerant world then they BE tolerant themselves.

For a more caring world BE caring etc etc.

On the dubious assumption, given your continued focus on it, you want more SBs to be sold why not BE an SB holder?

Instead of focussing on all that you perceive missing from Celtic why not look at all the good things that are present and support that, whilst working away positively and effectively on areas that can be improved.

Be part of the solution rather than part of the problem.

Be the Celtic you want to see in the world by being part of a gift from God to so many, perfectly flawed so that we can use our human talents to make it something we can return with love.

We are God’s gift to ourselves. What we make of that is our gift back to God. It would be a shame to return the gift unopened.

I guess it all depends on what criteria you are applying to define “city” status.

Chicago is a city (Christy tells us that).

Dublin is a city (Molly tells us that).

Glasgow is a town (Ertha Kitt – not rhyming slang – tells us that).

Coatbridge is an Independent Republic. We know this from experience.
