Fitness gambles can backfire

734

News that Kris Commons had surgery yesterday on a back injury he’s been carrying for months was news to me. Injury and illness hampered Kris at various stages this (last?) season but when he reported back ‘fit’ his form didn’t hit previous heights. Now we know why.

Commons, Scott Brown and Mikael Lustig played through injury for large portions of the season. They are big players for Celtic and the story of our season can be seen through the prism of their situations. Jozo Simunovic was also less than 100% fit for what little we saw of him.

Correctly diagnosing the fitness of each of them will be important to Celtic’s performance next season. If we think Jozo and Scott will be capable of performing at Champions League level and they’re not, you could write the script on how next season will transpire.

The new manager will take a look at Kris’s age, vitals and recent injury record, and will immediately underestimate what he’s likely to get from the player next season. No new manager will rely on having a fit and able Kris Commons, but if fit, he’ll get a player with the craft to help him in Europe and domestically.

Mikael’s persistent hip injuries suggest we need to recruit a right back. There’s insufficient evidence to determine whether Saidy Janko is ready for the task, so we need to find someone who can take the pressure off Mikael’s hips.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the newspaper advertisement about Resolution 12, which will run in The Guardian and a Swiss business ‘paper.  It’s been a remarkable project. You can read more information here.

as I’ve said before, I know nowt about runnin a football club let alone a global organistaion like CFC. So I have no suggestions for anybody for next year – we’ve got to

    -get a manager in

    -get dross out

-keep a very talented young body of players on board

-get quality in, in key positions

    – manage res 12, the upcoming new rangers, the cheating, the hype about a shi*e team

    – keep smiling

I don’t think the board will get away with cheap option again, They are on thin ice just now with other matters off the park, Bringing in a cheap option could be fatal.

But what will we expect the Board to do for the remaining 51 weeks of the year ? When they have completed those few tasks? HH

My daughter is moving out in 2 weeks to her new flat.

She is excited about how smart the flat will look with all her new furniture.

Of course I took the chance to say how much I was looking forward to leaving squashed up crisp packets and chocolate wrappers down her couch and quarter full juice cans on the table.

Having played the “you’d better be nice to me as I will choose your nursing home” card many years ago, this time I got “I suggest you don’t or you and mum will have matching blue, red and white headstones”.

Ah, the sweet innocence of youth.

If the JJ site is to be believed all six of the mibs are supporters of one of the teams in the cup final and none of them are Hibbies. Wonder which team their supervisor supports. HH

  8. I’VEHADTOCHANGEMY NAME, that’s a wish list by many club fans at this stage. A wish list and nothing better without suggestions as to you think would fullfill these wishes for you.

  10. At Turnberry for a few. days. Caddington for Mr Trump.Spoke with Dermot. I cannot say too much at this time, but he is looking for a partnership, leaders to preserve the highest standards of morality off field, with composure in the field of play. Looks like Giggly and Dicanio…..but keep it quiet.

Hopefully your information is the real deal and a start can be made for next season. Show some ambition by CFC if all goes to plan.

If the contract has been signed there might be one or two posters a tad embarrassed as they were adamant that it would not happen but hopefully they too will acknowledge it as a good move. HH

  12. Hail Hail my fellow Champions Supporters..

Just caught the 5 seconds of Celtic amongst the media frenzy of the forthcoming Champions League Cup Final between the same club, same history, same titles, (but nae debt or tax dues) ranjurs and their opponents from Aberdeen or somewhere.

With govan road and edmiston drive now closed to traffic in preparation of the victory parade, I found it strangely re assuring that it was inappropriate to show the Best footballing display by a Scottish Team this season, or last for that matter, plus the Title celebrations at the weekend, yet news worthy to snigger at ‘Celtic in talks with Brendan Rogers’.

We don’t need Brendan Rogers, nice guy that he is,Good Manager that he is also.. We need a tough guy fronting Celtic.. Someone who knows that standing up to the cheating and corruption at the top of scottish football, the lies and personal abuse that he will receive from the media, and the bombs and bullets that he and his Family will receive, will be able to take it and carry on. Our next Manager only needs to look at our previous Man before Ronnie, and indeed no further than our own CQN stalwarts who have sacrificed so much, for nothin more than seeking the truth and justice.

Welcome to Celtic, who ever you are. You had better be tough, hard and capable, cos putting a winning team on the park, is the easy part.. Defending yourself and protecting your Family is whats this is gonny be all about.

Brendan? Nice Guy!!.. But we need a Hard Man.

Hail Hail. God Bless the Res 12 Ghuys.

agreed, after the Ronny experiment they need to be seen to be pushing the boat out, a cheap option and they will be ridiculed

Would be a real statement of intent from the club.

I see the BBC have missed the big story again.

Seems they’re too busy trying to sell a Squirrel to Arsenal. Or maybe it was young Jack Aitchison.

Just lurking again, but agree with a lot of the Bhoys that Brendan Rodgers would be good for us.

I think he is a guy who could continue the dominance in Scotland and hopefully take us back to the top table in Europe.

I hope the resolution 12 newspaper advert is a success and shows up the SMSM for what they are.

Brendan read a eulogy at Saint Ninian’s Knightswood last year for a departed relative. He has family in Knightswood and Scotstoun. He is a Celtic man, just like you and me.

Would love him to carry on the good work Ronny started. 2000 born Tims are coming.

  20. If Brendan Rodgers (& others?) were interviewed last week, then this second meeting sounds promising. I would imagine that BR and his agent have been thrashing things out in the past few day with Celtic.

I wouldn’t expect anything less. There is such a lot to agree terms on. Not just financially.

  21. If Mr Rogers does come it will be presented by the MSM as a panic response to the clear and present danger of a promoted club offering a credible challenge.
