Fitness gambles can backfire

734

News that Kris Commons had surgery yesterday on a back injury he’s been carrying for months was news to me. Injury and illness hampered Kris at various stages this (last?) season but when he reported back ‘fit’ his form didn’t hit previous heights. Now we know why.

Commons, Scott Brown and Mikael Lustig played through injury for large portions of the season. They are big players for Celtic and the story of our season can be seen through the prism of their situations. Jozo Simunovic was also less than 100% fit for what little we saw of him.

Correctly diagnosing the fitness of each of them will be important to Celtic’s performance next season. If we think Jozo and Scott will be capable of performing at Champions League level and they’re not, you could write the script on how next season will transpire.

The new manager will take a look at Kris’s age, vitals and recent injury record, and will immediately underestimate what he’s likely to get from the player next season. No new manager will rely on having a fit and able Kris Commons, but if fit, he’ll get a player with the craft to help him in Europe and domestically.

Mikael’s persistent hip injuries suggest we need to recruit a right back. There’s insufficient evidence to determine whether Saidy Janko is ready for the task, so we need to find someone who can take the pressure off Mikael’s hips.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the newspaper advertisement about Resolution 12, which will run in The Guardian and a Swiss business ‘paper.  It’s been a remarkable project. You can read more information here.

You were adamant that the opposition parties would drop their OBaF promises after the election.

Care to comment on the tawdry performance of your party’s MSPs and the performance of Martin Hannan frae your paper, The National?

I really believe the legislation will go but the SNP will present it as an anti-SNP decision and a pro-sectarianism move. They are shameless today.

Martin Hannan alleged the Act had reduced chanting about the Disabled at football matches today on Radio Shortbread.

If you scroll back what you will find is that I said was that opposition politicians very often change their tune when they find themselves in power.

At this minute in time there is a lot of wheeling and dealing to be done before Labour, Tories and Lib Dems get into bed together.

Let us get this very straight. The SNP is not my party. As I have indicated previously, with the exception of the Tories I have voted at one time or another for various parties.

Not subscribing to the National, apart from its first edition, I cannot comment on what Martin Hannan said or did not say.

As for repeal or amendment of OB Act, the story has a long way to run.

Brendan’s teams play good football. We already have a fair amount of talent for him to work with;the type of players he likes. If he gets the job and brings in someone to give Leigh some help I reckon we’ll be very pleasant on the eye next season and successful. As well as giving the dignified debt dodgers a few skelpings.

Get him signed and present him on Friday.

End of the season for me now. Family have five seats and I’m told, renew. Ten days before I do what keeps the peace in a Celtic clique.

There may be a long way to go but your initial prediction that it would be quietly forgotten after the election has already been disproved. All the opposition parties have got together and announced that they will target this legislation.

Also quickly dropped was Nicola’s hustings promise to look carefully at reviewing/amending this. Instead she sent out her attack dogs to depict the shared view of every other party as being merely an anti-SNP “soft on sectarianism” policy.

Now, there may be compromises ahead but they will be made to save SNP face and get rid of this mince. The whole package would have ben easily binned if the SNP had played ball.

  19. EDB – Hope that you’re well Sir ? Like many others before I was shocked to read of your recent news and can only hope that you’re managing to ” keep the faith” as best as possible with such a weight to bear – don’t know what else to say ! Re Martin Hannah – your spot on re ” his roots” and perhaps forgetting same ! I’m pretty sure that he was away for a few years with my uncle at a seminary when in their mid/ late teens – can’t remember it’s name – but needless to say that they both decided against the vocation…….or maybe the vocation decided against them. I also recall delivering the Sunday newspapers to the Hannah family home ( Dalmonach Road, Bonhill ) and “old” Mr Hannah ( Jim ) – RIP. Mr H was a regular choir member at Our Lady & St Marks ( Alexandria ) but don’t have much recollection of him being a “mad Celtic man” – like myself ! Don’t understand why someone coming from the background / heritage that was handed down to Martin H isn’t more vocal in standing up for ” the truth” in relation to the entire SEVCO scam – there is a supportive audience out there for a champion from within our own ranks who has the balls to tell it as it is ! Roll on next week and the press activity planned with The Guardian – how corrupt is our own Scottish press when this is the only option open to telling the truth! Tradimus Lampada !
