News that Kris Commons had surgery yesterday on a back injury he’s been carrying for months was news to me. Injury and illness hampered Kris at various stages this (last?) season but when he reported back ‘fit’ his form didn’t hit previous heights. Now we know why.
Commons, Scott Brown and Mikael Lustig played through injury for large portions of the season. They are big players for Celtic and the story of our season can be seen through the prism of their situations. Jozo Simunovic was also less than 100% fit for what little we saw of him.
Correctly diagnosing the fitness of each of them will be important to Celtic’s performance next season. If we think Jozo and Scott will be capable of performing at Champions League level and they’re not, you could write the script on how next season will transpire.
The new manager will take a look at Kris’s age, vitals and recent injury record, and will immediately underestimate what he’s likely to get from the player next season. No new manager will rely on having a fit and able Kris Commons, but if fit, he’ll get a player with the craft to help him in Europe and domestically.
Mikael’s persistent hip injuries suggest we need to recruit a right back. There’s insufficient evidence to determine whether Saidy Janko is ready for the task, so we need to find someone who can take the pressure off Mikael’s hips.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to the newspaper advertisement about Resolution 12, which will run in The Guardian and a Swiss business ‘paper. It’s been a remarkable project. You can read more information here.

16 ROADS – CELTIC ÜBER ALLES… on 18TH MAY 2016 9:14 AM
The province of Ulster is the Celtic stronghold in Ireland.
In recent times we’ve had Martin O’Neill from Derry, and Neil Lennon from Armagh at the helm. Jim McGuinness, Donegal is there at present in a coaching capacity.
I’m not getting my hopes up, because then a can’t be too disappointed if this doesn’t materialise, however it would be incredible if a Saffron is appointed as manager of Celtic.

The problem with the mistakes made by Malky McKay is not that they’re a reflection of the persons character, not lack of experience or skills.
The question then becomes whether he’s truly changed his whole character or not?
If we take LG for example. He made a mistake and has admitted himself that the best way to avoid making the same mistake is to make sure he’s not in a position where he might get carried away. He’s learned something about himself and moved on. That’s a positive.
Do we have anything to suggest Malky has done the same? Interviews showing real contrition for example. I haven’t myself looked for any.

FF have it all worked out.
We got spooked with the Barton news and are panicking . The BR story is a smoke screen to sell season tickets and Malky will be the next manager.
Oh, but by chance Brendan is the next manager, then it was because we are running scared of their fast flowing attacking style and want to adopt similar.
Huuuuup.
Tell ye what. If Brendan takes the job, if we don’t take 12 goals off that mob over 4 league games, I’ll donate £100 to the charity of BRTH’s choice.

Statement from the club saying no preferred candidate and the process is ongoing
THEMAESTRO72 on 18TH MAY 2016 9:33 AM
FOLLOWING some speculation regarding the appointment of a new Celtic manager, the facts are as follows:
The club has been and will be speaking to a number of candidates and we will take our time to go through this process thoroughly and in the proper manner. There is no ‘preferred’ candidate.
We will continue this process with the aim of identifying a new manager who we believe will deliver success to the club.
Clearly we will not be able to provide daily updates on this issue. However, our supporters will be the first to know when a new manager has been appointed.
In the meantime we have season books to sell and it is important you as customers believe in Brendan.

Thoughts and prayers with you and yours.

This was in Oct 2015.
If accurate, it was £7m. That will reduce pro rata over the term of the contact I’d imagine. If a 4 year contract, it’ll be down to around £5m now. IF, it’s accurate.

‘ vow of poverty’
Reminded me of the fella who joined the monastery and took a vow of silence.
He was allowed to speak one sentence only every 10 years.
On his 10th anniversary he was called in to by the head monk who asked if he’d like to say anything?
He replied “my bed is too hard”
He was assured it’d be sorted out.
20 year anniversary and he’s called again to see if he has anything to say?
“Yes, my food is too cold”
Again he was given assurances that it’d be sorted.
After another 10 years, on his 30th anniversary he was once again called and asked if he’d anything to say?
“Yes”, he replied. “I quit”
” Thank fff for that” said the head monk” you’ve done nothing but moan since you got here “:-))

That was mine.
I don’t trust PL. I never have. He cost us £10m on Bobo alone. As far as I’m concerned he is not a force for good. He is pennywise and pound foolish, which is the point I was making, and he has been proven to be.

JFH-Brendan Rodgers currently getting divorced, his wife wants a share of his property empire,he owns 272 houses. He won’t be in the poor house anytime soon. I reckon if we offer him or Moyes ,£1.5 million a year ,and same again as a bonus if they get us to the CL. HH

I hadn’t heard that PL cost us on Bobo. What’s you’re thinking on that?
Bobby. Ah the old Bobo situation
Did we give him a contract that was too much. Maybe yes
But for Peter Lawell telling gordon not to pick him unless emergencies Shocking Peter Lawell’s ego was hurt as Bobo loved Celtic and did not want to move

MACJAY is probably asleep,so we’ll done on taking up the position of Tasmanian Devil’s Advocate.
You’re a doc. How much manic depression is caused by over-thinking the implications of the wrongs you have done to others in the past while suffering from an earlier episode?
You’re a Catholic. Don’t you believe in absolution or redemption? Or that only by realising how wrong you have been, can you tread the right path in future?
THEBARCAMOLE frequently rails on here about “casual racism”. And rightly too. Mackay wasn’t being casually racist,he was being downright offensive, and in a public place,by saying it he could have been jailed.
I believe he deserves another chance. And the same would apply to Irish racism.
Weeminger. Bobo was our best Center half by mikes at a time we played the chuckle brothers in McManus and Caldwell We lost income due to not playing our best players

Excellent post.
We’re talking here about compassion. It’s ours to give. The would-be recipient of our compassion has normally done something so horrendous that he doesn’t deserve it (in Malky’s case racism and homophobia) which are fairly horrendous to most people but compassion is a gift. It is ours to give to Malky.
I managed to forgive Peter Lawell two years after the Willo Flood transfer window. :-))
SydneyTim says sack Lawell now on 18th May 2016 10:28 am
Did we not reach last 16 of CL twice with Caldwell & McManus? I would have said that increased income.
BADABING. I have heard the smart money is on Peter Houston he Knows Celtic He knows the players and was very well thought of when he was there. For me he appears to be a more realistic candidate but only Celtic know. H.H.
Weeminger. To detriment of the team I think. Which is been Lawwell’s failing in last 5 years

DBBIA/ShoelessJacksonCSC
In football terms compassion and forgiveness are afforded only to those who are employed by the team supported by the individual if the person is deemed, not worthy but of enough benefit to the supporters club. All others employed by opposing teams are never or rarely afforded compassion or forgiveness. It’s the nature of the football supporter.
Football allegiance first. Compassion second if it fits with the first.

WEEMINGER
Bobo had a four year contract at £1.7m pa. plus loyalty and win bonuses for four years.
PL decided that was not on-didnae have the hawmaws to do it while MON was there, and Bobo was frozen out.
PL wanted to maximise that contract by way of a transfer,Bobo did what I would have done.
So £8m over the four years, minimum.
Plus of course we had to sign players to replace him. And pay them.
So,yes. Just on Bobo alone, our financial genius cost us £10m.
The good news is,that was over ten years ago,and it was only really around £2.5m pa.
(for one player and one mad idea)
The bad news is there’s been ten years since and PL mistakes of £2.5m pa have long been superseded by the inflation of his ego.
And,footnote for Tony DONNELLY,naw,I don’t not like PL. I despise the guy. And the above is only the tip of the iceberg on why.
I was always told that a manager should earn a fraction of what his talent earns the company. Not a fraction of how much his incompetence costs it.
(Bet youse aw wish I’d gone to the pub now…)
