Fitness gambles can backfire

734

News that Kris Commons had surgery yesterday on a back injury he’s been carrying for months was news to me. Injury and illness hampered Kris at various stages this (last?) season but when he reported back ‘fit’ his form didn’t hit previous heights. Now we know why.

Commons, Scott Brown and Mikael Lustig played through injury for large portions of the season. They are big players for Celtic and the story of our season can be seen through the prism of their situations. Jozo Simunovic was also less than 100% fit for what little we saw of him.

Correctly diagnosing the fitness of each of them will be important to Celtic’s performance next season. If we think Jozo and Scott will be capable of performing at Champions League level and they’re not, you could write the script on how next season will transpire.

The new manager will take a look at Kris’s age, vitals and recent injury record, and will immediately underestimate what he’s likely to get from the player next season. No new manager will rely on having a fit and able Kris Commons, but if fit, he’ll get a player with the craft to help him in Europe and domestically.

Mikael’s persistent hip injuries suggest we need to recruit a right back. There’s insufficient evidence to determine whether Saidy Janko is ready for the task, so we need to find someone who can take the pressure off Mikael’s hips.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the newspaper advertisement about Resolution 12, which will run in The Guardian and a Swiss business ‘paper.  It’s been a remarkable project. You can read more information here.

Jings, wash my mouth out-I just insulted the big fella there-and by accident, for once!

I’ve got a fairly extensive bhoycott list too. I’m fast running out of supermarkets, just for starters.

    And bookies.

I tend to be more forgiving towards pubs though.

Just a thought, if Rodgers is on gardening leave, he would need permission to speak to Celtic I assume.

Anchor Butter? My da hated it called it ‘Cart Wheel Grease’ We were a lurpak house. What’s your beef about it?

  4. Having yer teeth fixed, it’s a real no no in Glasgow…sorry Mr Rodgers we can’t have people who lose weight and have good teeth and dress well.

Step forward the next Celtic manager… Biiiiig Peter Houston…

Yet another reason why Celtic supporters should not buy that gutter rag nor click on its website. The sooner it sinks into its self-manufactured mire, the sooner we might get honest journalism, IMO.

I got sent down to their factory once to run a manufacturing improvement project for them. Geez, for a food place I was disgusted with the cleanliness and hygiene levels.

Never touched another drop ! That was 20 years ago btw, so it’s not like I bear a grudge eh:-))

Many food environments are not as you would expect them to be. Let’s face it,you read daily about hygiene infractions, some at a quite disgusting level.

Matts Nilloc, so you would rather have a racist bigot homophobe than a guy with white teeth in charge of Celtic. You are entitled to your opinion.

Steven Gerrard said Rodgers was the best man manager he had worked with. Gerrard has been managed by King Kenny, Benitez, Hodgson etc.

Anyway, I think we may discover there are other candidates who have been interviewed twice.

  10. thetimreaper on

I doubt we would interview Rodgers twice, he must be in negotiations at this stage.

  11. Re Compensation.

If there is any compensation or any monetary questions these will have already been agreed with BR’s agent prior to any interviews. If not, then interview would not be taking place. DR = Let’s go fly a kite up to the highest height por cierto.

Excellent post, although I must say that if any of the MSM had expressed that view on why Brendan Rodgers is not your first choice there would be uproar on here. Nevertheless your reasoning is well thought out and valid.

Personally David Moyes would be my first choice, because I feel that what he achieved at Everton is more akin to our situation than what Brendan did at liverpool.

In saying that I would be delighted if Brendan becomes our manager. As many others have stated; it is ambitious and shows our intent.

    Hail, Hail to all.

PS : Wife tells me that I have not had renewal pack through yet.

Nail on head, Celtic FC will use time to allow press to speculate then we move onto procrastinate which then allows club to further deliberate then ultimately to frustrate

Different circumstances from 2 years ago. We have a clear favourite who seems willing. Hopefully it’s just a case of sorting T&C’s. Get this guy in and ST sales will go through the roof, the place will be rocking!

  15. Morning all.

I’m still hoping for the new slimline, white-toothed and immaculately-dressed Brodge.

I hope sumdy asks some questions about how Murray was able to strip out some of the more valuable parts of his crumbling ’empire’ before liquidating it at our expense.

Last week, there was a lot of fraction on here and, where I usually reside as a poster, TSFM we were hijacked by the Lawman, a Rangers poster who bored me to death. Thankfully the SFM posters were well up to him.

I note you brought up the ole Europe EU thing.

Guilty. I caught quonno on the blog and thought I’d remind him of his prediction about what the opposition parties would do about the OBaF Act and I tagged on a sentence I’ve been waiting to use about the Euro Referendum

Any chance you could educate on the pros and cons. It is one helluva task trying to understand whether it’s good or less good or bad or more bad being in or oot respectively.

I can hardly educate you on the pros and cons. The EU is a large and corrupt organisation without sufficient elected oversight but it can be improved if we have the will. Exiting the EU is promoted by those that want us to resume trade with former Commonwealth countries instead who happen to have the disadvantage that they hate us as a colonial residue or they are a long way away and can trade much more cheaply with China, Japan and the US. It is a fantasy economics argument. So, at heart, a workable corrupt system vs a fantasy economical argument, underlined by the great cost of any break up of existing arrangements while hoping blindly that a change must be an improvement.

I haven’t a clue. But alas I do find it funny that the exitiers are moaning about the tactics employed by some of them to save the Loyalist Royal Union are now being turned on them to save the WTF do they actually do Union.

And you would have to say they have a case. The establishment, which includes the media, have employed dirty tactics against the non-favoured side, as they do whether it was Scottish Indy arguments, Corbynist Labour or the Brexit folk. And yes, there is an inconsistency in where the Brexit folk set their pro-Union lines just as there is with the pro-Europe anti-Westminster line of the Yessers. They dislike sharing sovereignty with Europeans but like the return of the Old colonies where they would be First (they think) amongst Unequals. And the Yes movement dislikes sharing sovereignty with the English but is well disposed to seeking Alliance with European mainland countries. Maybe it’s replaying feudal politics from the time of our Scottish Kings.

    It’s all extremely not interesting.

I’ll probs go with the WTF do the do Union over the Loyalist Royal Union campaign though.

My big picture is the EU is a large union wherein you merge (not surrender) your sovereignty. So supporting it should be anathema to those who wanted to break up our existing governance in order to bring decisions closer to home but there is the same inconsistency/ hypocrisy there as there is with UK Unionists in the Brexit campaign.

Which is why I made the jibe that the seperatists are all Unionists now.

The “reasoning” seems to be that BR got divorced and bought a new suit and therefore is not suitable, but that Malky’s made racist, sexist and homophobic remarks but that’s OK. If Malky deserves a 2nd chance then so does Brendan, surely?

BTW, Brendan’s ex got her teeth done too :

    ‘ vow of poverty’

Reminded me of the fella who joined the monastery and took a vow of silence.

He was allowed to speak one sentence only every 10 years.

On his 10th anniversary he was called in to by the head monk who asked if he’d like to say anything?

He replied “my bed is too hard”

He was assured it’d be sorted out.

20 year anniversary and he’s called again to see if he has anything to say?

“Yes, my food is too cold”

Again he was given assurances that it’d be sorted.

After another 10 years, on his 30th anniversary he was once again called and asked if he’d anything to say?

    “Yes”, he replied. “I quit”

” Thank fff for that” said the head monk” you’ve done nothing but moan since you got here “:-))
