Fitness gambles can backfire

734

News that Kris Commons had surgery yesterday on a back injury he’s been carrying for months was news to me. Injury and illness hampered Kris at various stages this (last?) season but when he reported back ‘fit’ his form didn’t hit previous heights. Now we know why.

Commons, Scott Brown and Mikael Lustig played through injury for large portions of the season. They are big players for Celtic and the story of our season can be seen through the prism of their situations. Jozo Simunovic was also less than 100% fit for what little we saw of him.

Correctly diagnosing the fitness of each of them will be important to Celtic’s performance next season. If we think Jozo and Scott will be capable of performing at Champions League level and they’re not, you could write the script on how next season will transpire.

The new manager will take a look at Kris’s age, vitals and recent injury record, and will immediately underestimate what he’s likely to get from the player next season. No new manager will rely on having a fit and able Kris Commons, but if fit, he’ll get a player with the craft to help him in Europe and domestically.

Mikael’s persistent hip injuries suggest we need to recruit a right back. There’s insufficient evidence to determine whether Saidy Janko is ready for the task, so we need to find someone who can take the pressure off Mikael’s hips.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the newspaper advertisement about Resolution 12, which will run in The Guardian and a Swiss business ‘paper.  It’s been a remarkable project. You can read more information here.

Not surprised at the reaction of your friend. The unco-guid in this country seem to have a strange view of morality – selective at best and available to be bought “for the good of Scottish football”

It shows the difficult task which we face. But better to fight injustice rather than take the easy way out and have a quiet life.

It would be interesting to know what his teams supporters’ views are- or are they even aware of the cheating perpetrated in their, and our, name.

Hopefully the advert in the newspaper may make them think or, there, again it may be the typical Scottish attitude of “Don’t confuse me with the facts. My mind is made up.”

Maybe a few copies of next Wednesday’s “Guardian” ‘left’ in clubhouses/pubs etc may be an educational experience for some. HH

    RES12 NEWSPAPER ADVERTS

Great news that funding for “Guardian” advert on Wednesday, 25 May now secured.

Hopefully CQN will rally round to ensure that advert can also appear in Swiss paper. A further contribution to follow. Much need for the world to learn of the failure by SFA to abide by the rules. More power to your collective elbows. HH

If we were going to appoint McInnes, surely we would have spent the last three weeks dropping strong hints that it was going to be McLeish?

Rodgers for me as well. No chance with Malky, Lenny, or Keane. Moyes hanging on for england, Aye he is dying for the celtic job. ;)

KLV- to be fair,Tom English making great point that BR got Swansea promoted and then finished 12th,-net spend £12mil

No Radio show taking Rodgers seriously. Why would the Club speak to him twice? Its an offer. Must be. After 1st round of interviews you kind of know who your 2 or 3 are. I hope its Rodgers.

Spiers makes some good points on Keane.

  11. Can paul67 or someone not just give us a heads up on new manager so we can all throw few pound on it and win bit of cash :-)… If so I’ll buy a season ticket

  12. Magnificentseven on

Brendan Rodgers, yes please. A wee statement of intent if they appoint him, a big disappointment if we end up with Malky or a similar level Manager

Roy has the euros to attend first , he can’t bail on us twice . If there was no euros I have no doubt he would be interested.

  14. Joe Filippis Haircut on

PROUDBHOY. Would you wait for him to complete the Euros or move on ? H.H.

  15. If Rodgers gets the gig will he bring in Hammerstein as assistant?

Maybe the two of them could get off the managerial carousel at Celtic. Or will it be Larsson as assistant, the King and I as Brendan would have it. Perhaps we’d like the sound of their music, a right Cinderella affair, would get the Green Brigade whislting a happy tune and banging out the flower drum song…

  16. I think Brenda Rodgers could do quite a lot with the guys he will inherit. Just a bit of added midfield muscle needed.

WC. I’m a believer in many a slip twixt lip and cup and there have been plenty on the Res12 road so I’d throw in the caveat “all being well.”

Not that I don’t anticipate it being well but bit of throwing a wee bit of caution on a path can stop it becoming slippery later.

*After MON joined us he went off to the Euros as part of a commentating team, highly criticised as you would expect but came back with Joos.

If we’re serious on Rogers then we must be looking at splashing some real cash. Who could we trust not to waste a larger than normal budget? Most of the guys mentioned deal in the premiership and championship where our budget wouldn’t go too far. Saying that, I’d bite Yir hand aff fir Rogers.

For substantial money to be spent before substantial money comes in there will have to be a complete about turn at Board level.
