When I researched yesterday’s article (yes, research does happen sometimes) I was far from encouraged. Udinese had an impeccable home record and Snr Di Natale is one of Europe’s irresistible strikers at the moment.
We didn’t manage to resist Di Natale but he will remember Fraser Forster for a few years. We have been fortunate to see a few great goalkeeping performances in Europe in the last decade but last night Fraser was second perhaps only to David Marshall that night in Barcelona. That last minute penalty save against Hearts on Saturday has moved the player onto a new platform.
Udinese had a good 20 minute spell when they looked every inch the team joint top of the Italian league but they were on the rack in the closing stages of the game. Cha DuRi has had an eventful Europa League on the road this season. He was a bit unfortunate at the Udinese goal but completely out of luck when he twisted his body mid-air to volley off the post.
Watching Georgios Samaras last night was a lesson in how complex a game football can be. This is a player who could not hold down a place in the SPL last season, yet playing in a different position he had top-flight defenders throwing themselves at him in order to inhibit progress.
There is still work to be done, but the return of three first choice defenders will enhance the team considerably. The most pleasing thing about last night came after the game; Fraser Forster’s focus was immediately on St Johnstone. It’s all about Perth now.
Issue 5 of CQN Magazine will be out soon. Hard copies will be available direct, at a considerably reduced cost from our current Magcloud arrangement and with a fast delivery turnaround. Details soon.

The fact you think your right says it all, You can not see your doing the club harm? bet you think your a better fan than me? why? because your some sort of freedom fighter?
Deary me Paul67 is correct this is going to end in tears for Celtic fc and you and the your like are the cause
I just do not understand your thinking.
Losing the faith
Mtt
My tuppence worth on the latest controversies.
Last night, banner & flare, obviously ill advised and ill considered,
as voiced by many, there are much smarter ways to make your point.
What i find more concerning though is the reaction by some,
who would once again happily turn on our own.
Displeasure and concern over what these actions bring to the cub,
obviously are, completely understandable, BUT,
The venomous reaction of some and calls to throw them to the dogs, once again, i don’t !
‘Not real fans’, ‘not true Celtic supporters’, ‘yahoos’ , etc……..
Really ? Ghuys who have probably got themselves into financial difficulty,
to go and back our team in Europe, not real fans, not true Celtic supporters,
while the rest of us judge and dictate from the comfort of our chairs !
Is that Celtic, is that what we do?
For me, the establishment and our PLC’s tactics in dividing us are working
and it seems we have lost focus on were our attentions need to be.
Our board have let us down no end and the current controversies are largely of their making.
FAILURE to guide, support and safeguard us when,
WRONGFULLY under attack from our ruling party, police and media.
FAILURE to guide and safeguard us for the future,
by at least questioning the manner in which the UEFA charges were conceived,
and the logic applied in fining our club for a first ‘offence’, by going to appeal.
Celtic Symphony – a political song. Really?
PLC FAILURE, not just in the last 2 weeks,
not just stemming back to both last years cup finals,
but stemming back years in avoiding to live up to our clubs ethos.
The choice of making scapegoats and ostracising our own,
while appeasing both the insidious and blatant bigotry,
of the establishment and the orc ,
is unacceptable, is spineless and is not Celtic !
Our support is being played and conned, not just by the establishment, police and Media,
but by our own PLC, time and again, and they are getting bolder at it.
From others, we are accustomed to it, but from our own ?
Celtic is not being run in the manner we understand and value Celtic to be.
Ghuys, please channel your frustrations were they belong !!!
“Our fans have just given the establishment, media house, phone INS their headline well done whoever put that banner up.
Just look at the phone in last week with the kayal ducking incident, they are dying for anything to say ones as bad as each other. ”
you’ve just replied to your own point – it doesnt matter a toss – they will attack us for any reason – self-inflicted or not – regardless.
f*** them all.
BSR
The handsfree Toilet Duck App.
No matter what you think of the Board, the Players etc – the so called fans of our Club that were party to that banner last night sholdl be ashamed. They may have a valid and legitimate point but to use such crass language was shocking and they should take themselves away from following the Team if that is the way they are going to go about things.
We may be fined for the banner, if we’re given a ban then what can we do?
I’m just not sure is the problem that we’re not allowed to show dissent to UEFA or is it just the word F&#K in black and white that’s bad?
Hail Hail
From above – ‘on were our attentions’ should be ‘on where our attentions’
Do my grammatical mistakes nullify the validity of my point !
Mega own goal by the GB last night, who needs an impartial LL when you have Celtic supporters generating their copy.Grow up.
A great night for Lennies Celtic but due to a few dicks all over the printed and broadcast news the discussion is about a banner and flares.
I have been a supporter of the GB up till now in the face of friends who see them as attention seekers, today I have moved across the divide they are more trouble than they are worth,we need a singing section not a posturing section.
This sort of thing only succeeds in dividing us when we should be at our most united, well done. You have given Lawell the ammunition he was waiting for,I hope he pinpoints some of you and you are banned.I think this is the end of what could have been a positive force for the ordinary fan at a time when we are less and less important to the PLC and sadly its all been self inflicted.
Paddy McCourt wasnt born 27 years ago today, he just appreared.

I don’t have the battery left or the time to engage you so please come back to me tomorrow because you at least deserve the chance to defend the fact that I’m calling you a hun.
I will be about tomorrow.
Your extremely dodgy.
Firstly, let me say that overall I thought we played very well in Europe this year and everyone has to remember the youth of the team and lack of experience playing at that level. This level suits Sammy perfectly and we need to retain him for future campaigns.
Ok, the banner. ‘F@{& Eufa’. Not remotely in the class of ‘Scotland’s Shame’ and more akin to something Hunnite. Puerile, classless and neddish. I was embarassed. To fathers and mothers of wee tims everywhere who had to explain to their kids this morning why some of our support are ‘pottymouths’, I would bet they are embarassed to.
Lastly, the paranoia that Strathclyde’s finest are chewing at the bit to wade in to the Celtic support and make arrests. They arent. Have not heard a word from either Billy Polis or Timmy polis all week about the bill. Believe it or not there is some serious crime out there which is more needy of their concentration. Get a life lads not everyones out there to get you…….
Mickthetic
Your post makes all sort of allegations about me based on the fact that I claimed to be disgusted at some of the posts on here with regards the ‘punishments’ that should be meted out to those responsible for unfurling the banner last night.
Your aggressive and confrontational tone was not merited in my opinion. But hey ho I’ll no lose any sleep.
So let me get this straight, you allude that I have a conceited view of myself as a ‘freedom fighter’ or a better supporter than you. And all this because I was angered that fellow Celtic fans had been referred to as ‘moronic’, ‘f#$%wits’ and ‘so called Celtic fans’.
Have I got that right because for the life of me I haven’t got a clue what you’re talking about.

Club Statement
By: Newsroom Staff on 16 Dec, 2011 16:33
CELTIC Football Club today confirmed that it has identified an individual responsible for both the displaying of an offensive banner and the assault of a Celtic steward at last night´s match against Udinese.
The person, Ross Connolly, was arrested last night by police in Italy and he will be banned for life from attending all of Celtic´s matches.
The club is also in the process of identifying persons responsible for the use of a flare at last night´s match.
We are in possession of video and photographic evidence from the match and clearly, when those responsible are identified, the club will take the appropriate action.
Celtic is rightly proud of all that our supporters have achieved and the magnificent reputation they have earned across Europe over many years.
It is extremely disappointing therefore that the otherwise excellent behaviour of the vast majority of Celtic supporters, and the reputation of the club, has been undermined in this way, by the actions of a handful of people.
Re. banner: just thinking that the same GB’ers were probably in Madrid when the Atleti frente unveiled a banner reading ‘F**k you Billy McNeill’.
OK it wasn’t aimed at the competition organisers but it did at least normalise ‘that sort of thing’.
Hail, hail
Take it all chanting ‘F the SFA’ has always been so offensive as to warrant naming and shaming on the official website, only its not in the financiall interests of the PLC to name and shame thousands upon thousands of customers, is it?
greandreamz
how offensive :)))))))))))

greendreamz – Away and bile yer heid………….Ooo Ahhhhh !!
Has there ever been a time in the club’s history when the supporters didn’t have it in for the board of the day?
I can’t recall the board ever being congratulated for the way they ran the club in the 50 or so years I’ve been a supporter.
Had CQN been around several decades ago the same views would have been expressed then as now.
And it has gone. Disappearing ink mibbees:o)
Love that disappearing blog ink!
Mental on here today.

Out of order with that post. You may even have something valid to say but the point is missed due to your language.
Top story on the STV news- Bannergate- is this a massive overreaction- check out you tube for clips of F EUFA banners from supporters of teams including Ajax- who also displayed EUFA Mafia and EUFA corruption banners- no action from EUFA and I dont imagine the same media feeding frenzy in their own country- a media frenzy that is no doubt stoking the fires at EUFA. Massive OG from the GB- and surprising as their displays are generally thoughful- certainly never at such a childish level. Batten down the hatches Bhoys- the LL will use this to batter us for weeks- if it wasnt this it would be something else- so dont give them any more ammunition.

Well I suppose we knew it would the Celtic story has made the headlines on the STV news of course the cheating Poundland team and Sir Skinty and the Whyte Knight rarely get a mention.I accept that the Banner was stupid as it just played into there hands but come on no one was beaten no City was trashed it was only a banner. This is definately even a low blow by this Bigoted STV news no fairness no balance shown anywhere just the knife being stuck into Celtic and the support and our Chairman a spokesman for the Bigoted STV.H.H.
I’ve just watched Lenny’s interview from the airport on returning from Italy.
His comment, “My only surprise is that they managed to spell it correctly”, is an absolute disgrace.
Yes I’ve no doubt that I’ll be berated on here but to make such a disparaging comment has left me with an awful empty feeling inside.
ElDiegoBhoy,
and if J Titor was here he would surely confirm that CQN posters will still be slamming the board in the year 2021.
F*** the Newco ! (a banner from the future )

Anyone who regularly uses this site knows fine well that Paul sets very few rules but language of that nature is strictly taboo.
Anyway for your info down to zero here in G83 which is far warmer than this time last year:o)
As a man once said, ‘ask not what your club can do for you but what you can do for your club’
HH that man.
U19 game v Huns is off tommorow due to snow.
Losing only one of three away games in European competition has to be a massive achievement by Neil Lennon and his young squad after the dismal away form of previous Celtic teams in recent years. We always seem to do well against Italian sides who allow you to play football and are not as cynical in comparison to the Spanish.
The Udinese boss said before this game we would have no problem competing in the Seria A and he was proven right on last night’s performance. Some people said we were better off not being in Europa but the team has relished pitting their skills against some of the best players on the continent and is a welcome break from the claustrophobic SPL.
Georgios again looked a 10 million player and being in the European shop window will not harm his prospects. Tremendous performance by Fraser and it’s amazing what a player can produce when he is kept busy unlike in the SPL. No doubt Neil has a serious team starting to gel and we must push on from here for the Championship. Pity a few of the support decided to act the eejit on a great night for the club.
the banner was stupid and serves only to provide more ammunition to our detractors
hamiltontim
the”poppy” spelling cock up is worthy of ridicule ..
perhaps Lenny was just trying to play it down …frankly he shouldn`t have to deal with this BS
hamiltontim I consider my self as a moderate person but I agree with you Lennie was out of order and playing into the hands of the bigoted media.H.H.
Dear God, Bankier actually speaks!.
The banner wielding was wrong – very childish and crude – last night in my view but I believe the time for Bankier to have spoken was immediately at the time we were handed the fine. If we had appealed I fancy you would not have seen that banner last night. The fans would have felt the fans did at least have some support from the Board.
Saw that someone (probably a stray from FF) was defending MRS T on here earlier- the milk snatcher- I certainly know that when she goes I WILL be having a party
Good evening Guys,
Great performance and not to bad a result last night. 2 away games in Europe without defeat is showing signs that we are learning how to play in these long trips abroad. The fact that these 2 games were also against teams from France and Italy is also a plus for me.
The only downside if you can call it a downside, is we turned out in that Yellow strip again. I thought we had a new strip which is mostly green, which would be more in keeping with the fact that we are Glasgow Celtic. So come on the powers that be, get that green kit out next time we have to change, or stick to the famous HOOPS.
