Forster, Samaras and Perth

1353

When I researched yesterday’s article (yes, research does happen sometimes) I was far from encouraged.  Udinese had an impeccable home record and Snr Di Natale is one of Europe’s irresistible strikers at the moment.

We didn’t manage to resist Di Natale but he will remember Fraser Forster for a few years.  We have been fortunate to see a few great goalkeeping performances in Europe in the last decade but last night Fraser was second perhaps only to David Marshall that night in Barcelona.  That last minute penalty save against Hearts on Saturday has moved the player onto a new platform.

Udinese had a good 20 minute spell when they looked every inch the team joint top of the Italian league but they were on the rack in the closing stages of the game.  Cha DuRi has had an eventful Europa League on the road this season.  He was a bit unfortunate at the Udinese goal but completely out of luck when he twisted his body mid-air to volley off the post.

Watching Georgios Samaras last night was a lesson in how complex a game football can be.  This is a player who could not hold down a place in the SPL last season, yet playing in a different position he had top-flight defenders throwing themselves at him in order to inhibit progress.

There is still work to be done, but the return of three first choice defenders will enhance the team considerably.  The most pleasing thing about last night came after the game; Fraser Forster’s focus was immediately on St Johnstone.  It’s all about Perth now.

Issue 5 of CQN Magazine will be out soon.  Hard copies will be available direct, at a considerably reduced cost from our current Magcloud arrangement and with a fast delivery turnaround.  Details soon.

You know zip about Irish history

You know zip about the origins of Brother Walfrid and Celtic FC

Anyone who offers an opinion other than what agrees with your own is a hand shaker?

You jokers are going to be the ruin of Celtic FC and are playing right into the hands of the orcs. The Orcs as a culture and organisation are dying on their feet and they are trying desperately to infect as many others as they can before they die.

Why should we be helping them FFS???

For the comment on “dough”. You could well be sitting on a seat I paid to be built. How many seats did you pay to be built exactly???

  3. STV news sport leads with “Weir tells Jelavic to think twice about leaving Rangers”- then his interview sees Weir saying that he might leave in January if he doesnt get a game- you couldnt make it up. What are the odds on the tax avoiders gettingb at least one penalty tomorrow?

Your post is spot on. Im in total agreement, Samaras was outstanding in the first half and seems to be on a bit of a roll. Forster had is best game for Celtic and seems to be getting better. Once all the injured players are back we should be very very good. We could just win this league, which after being so far behind at 1 point would be fantastic.

Then he shouldn’t have commented. I’m disgusted that the manager of Celtic should chose to ridicule the support in such a manner.

Would Tommy Burns have said this?

Out of order with that post. You may even have something valid to say but the point is missed due to your language.

  7. Just seen STV news and can’t believe Neil Lennon has spoken as he did. Jeezo, Media House could have handed him this and would never believe he would actually say it.

Massive OG from the fans with the banner matched by an equally massive OG from Neil.

By the way thought the team played rather well last night and it’s such a shame that so few are talking about the game.

And isn’t Keevins just loving this and as he just said “having a field day”

  9. Why do the board of directors get the blame for idiots shaming themselves and more importantly the club I love. This is UEFA the governing european body who are hammering us. The mindless attitude of these people will get us BANNED from europe if they do not stop this. I am proud to be a Celtic supporter and want us to be welcolmed all round the world. We need to get accross to people to stop this!!

well said , I love what the GB bring to our support, but the Student Grant politics and childish behaviour brings nothing to the party, what was the thought process ?? Sing loud and proud,we have dozens of great songs and the GB have plenty of great banners. Last night was an own goal,we handed the LL the initiative.

    ………….

Evening Celts just logged on and I see Cqn are blaming the GB for the banner at the game, I never seen the banner but did it have a GB logo on it? If not then it was a few Celtic Supporters NOT the GB, I’m on page 1 hopefully this will be clarified on later pages, it really bugs me when everything gets blamed on the GB, all our enemies are at it and it looks like some of our supporters are as well, no doubt there will be a few Huns on Cqn adding to the mix.

jimmci Its really unbelievable that we are agreeing with the media on the banner the Poundland mob trashed parts of Manchester and nearly kicked a police officer into the next World and less was made of it.The Celtic chairman joining in and Lennie didnt help the situation they should have refused to comment on anything other than the football. We are only seen by Celtic as walking pound signs and they are not interested in anything other than money makes me feel that the Celtic I knew and loved has gone we are now in the hands of the bankers.H.H.

  12. Shamrock Rovers fans chanting “you should be in prison Harry” during last night’s Europa game against SPURS in Dublin. I wonder will Harry R. report them to EUFA. Interesting times ahead.

  14. The muppets who unveiled the “**** UEFA” banner should have thought about it in advance.

What if UEFA were to say “NO, **** Celtic”, in reply, and ban us for a year from playing in European matches? How would those guys feel if their actions effectively handed ratners fc yet another Euro bonus?

    And your point exactly is?

I assume it is to totally go into a wee cocoon and ignore what’s happening around us? You do if you wish; I prefer to know my enemy…fyi…DR is banned in my house.

I think we soiled ourselves last night. Stupid banner; childish and crude.

My goodness, the support is splitting big time here.

  16. BrotherAidanIwisnaelate on

This is hardly going to be a revelation but from some of the posts I wonder. The Celtic support has wifebeaters, drugdealers, thieves, taxdodgers, benefit cheats et al amongst the support on a ratio with every other walk of life. The Celtic support is not 100% angels far from it. Those concerned should have broad shoulders to take a bit of criticism when warranted. We are a family club and it mebbees time some of the troops matured a bit, looked around the terracing, and note the women and kids that also have a right to be spared the foul abuse and drunken behaviour that wouldnt be tolerated in the streets outside.

I dont agree with a lot said on here and other sites, and why should I, just because it comes from another Celtic supporter. I follow and support Celtic football club. There is no requirement that I and others need to follow like sheep the brayings of a minority who have their own agenda.

The banner may not be illegal in the statutes of Eufa but in terms of good taste and the common decency it is not acceptable.

  17. I am reading these threads with a very heavy heart. We are turning on each other instead of staying united. No one would question either my Republican credentials or my Celtic credentials, at least not to my face. However I think the lads with the banner were totally wrong to display it. That doesn’t mean I want them pilloried, I have heard Lennon speak off camera and I am satisfied that he is as strong a Republican as anyone, it pained me to hear the interview but that is what happens when guys go off on a solo run. These actions tend to split supporters into extreme views and those trying to hold the middle ground have the feet cut off them. Can’t wait for the football to start to give us something else to talk about, in the meantime I would urge both camps to calm down.

  18. vmhan @ 18.31- My info is that it was the GB- my boy is one of the GB- though a significant number of the banner group were Toulon fans there with the GB to support the tic- wonder if they will be banned from Celtic Park. Is it just me or is it illegal to name and shame a supporter suspected BUT NOT YET TRIED for flying a flag/ letting off a flare

I’m sitting here in abject misery after the comments today from two board members and the manager.

People will no doubt tell me to get a grip but I feel absolutely gutted by these statements. I’ve never been a big critic of PL for his financial policy because I always thought many would have wanted him to commit financial suicide to keep up with the huns and we all know where that has led them to. Yes there were times when the purse strings should have loosened more they were but I understood the prudence.

For his neglect of duty of the Celtic support he should be removed now. Sorry for the tone of this but in I’m devastated by these events.

I tried to engage with you on a sensible level as I try to do with anyone I converse with on here. I’m sorry you clearly don’t have the intellect for that.

  23. BrotherAidanIwisnaelate on

I think you will find that the banner ‘creator’ also allegedly assaulted a steward. I wouldnt think we should be condoning an assault on anyone.

I see Lenny is now not being allowed free speech because it doesnt fit in with the programme.

How about accepting that this was wrong for once. Tell you what let the banner wavers own up and pay the fine heading Celtics way. I’ll give them a bit of respect for that. Wont haud ma breath though.

  24. Ulster-Celt, I presume you have no time for Paddy either or Martin O Neill or a myriad of other lads from the Catholic Community who played for the 6 Counties. Don’t get me wrong I don’t applaud them for it, I would have been much happier if they didn’t but i don’t think its right to damn them either.

  25. corkcelt

it was tongue in cheek, I wasn’t danming anyone. but they chose to represent northern Ireland, I don’t see how they could be regarded as republicans. MON has an MBE ffs

hamiltontim. Its a complete over reaction by the media in order to undermine Celtic and the support and unfortunately our Chairman and Lennie have just walked right into the trap laid for them. I listen to the melee and have to keep reminding myself it was only a banner which I doubt UEFA would have been all that concerned about .However, now our media have started a witch hunt which could well alert UEFA to take action. When we are in the public eye it keeps the Poundland mob out of sight out of mind and believe me thats what all this hounding of the Celtic support is about.H.H.
