Fraught preseason, instinct ruling head

657

Really pleased Leigh Griffiths is back in the Scotland squad, it’s just reward for his work this season, although the prospect of having so many Celtic players on international duty in June is an unwelcome one, considering we’ve Champions League qualifiers to prepare for in July.  Preseason is already looking fraught.

I’d convinced myself I wasn’t too bother if newco are promoted this season or not, all the big battles have been won and lost.  I realised differently when I received a text yesterday saying Queens were a goal up.  Your instinct can tell you things your head can’t.

Another season of lower league football will drain them of an additional £10m, which I don’t think they have, but I don’t think they have enough money to complete a season in the top flight either.  It doesn’t matter if the boat sinks in 50m of water or 50km, there would be a deficit in either league.  Viability remains the subject of undocumented fantasy, cannon fodder-dom awaits in the top flight, ignominious avoidance in the lower leagues.

If Mike Ashley cuts them some slack, they will eventually be a top 12 club.  When they are, Celtic will earn an extra £4m from ticket sales and indirect incremental income, enough to make a difference on the field.  Similar income will go to Ibrox, but this isn’t enough to fund a turnaround.  My preference would be to have both Hibs and Hearts back next season but I’m chilled either way.

Very last call for the Ben Nevis Huddle, which takes place on Saturday 13 June in aid of the Celtic Foundation.  If you’re up for it, sign up here…..

  1. Good morning CQNers

If the commander in chief of the parachute regiment and Gerry Adams can meet today in a spirit of peace and reconciliation then I think CQN should learn something from them, otherwise its going to be a long summer

  2. Morning all.

“we have two feral capitalist states and both fascist/imperialist looking to protect their interests,”

Agreed ti the extent that this viewpoint is present on both sides.

Therefore, it is one-sided to attach that label to someone whose sympathies lie with one side whilst excusing anyone whose sympathies lie with the Russian side.

Unless you feel that your 3 (or 5) bullet points apply to Zbyszek (and that would be a stretch) then the term does not apply.

The term is over used. Thatcher was not a Fascist.

She was a petit bourgeois **** but not a Fascist and the term is diminished by its misapplication, as is the point you are trying to get across about American dirty tricks.

One simple point to appreciate. The peoples of Eastern Europe faced far more oppression and violence from their State masters than was visited against our brothers and sisters in the Occupied 6 counties. A bit of sympathy should be there for the trials they endured.

It’s time to realise that you have targeted a fundamentally good guy here.

Perhaps Platini has been spooked by the threat of bigger clubs breaking free of UEFA to start their own competitions.

There may be no rules in Fight Club, but there’s one in business.

    Money talks.

  10. No talking about religion today.

Some folk thought that my comments were, offensive, out of order, un-called for, out of context.

    Maybe they’re right.

If so, I should be duty bound to apologise.

    I wont apologise.

Know why?…coz nobody would believe me.

So, what’s the point in being sorry for holding feelings that are so strong?

Maybe, it was the effff the church which hit hard.

Maybe it was allowing myself to deviate from the prime subject – Celtic.

    I’m not a religious person.

Celtic are not about religion – not to me anyway.

    If, I say I’m sorry…it won’t wash.

I’ll be accused of telling lies.

Know what….there has been only one person that God has put on this earth who, didny tell a lie…know what happened to him…?…he was nailed to a cross.

    I’m a worrier.

I worry about Celtic…all the time.

I worry about what is coming down the track in terms of the new, regime of cheating or, discrimination against Celtic supporters.

I worry that, Celtic PLC aren’t equipped to deal with all the jiggery-poakery that will be flung in their direction.

But, is it a case of not being equipped as opposed to, conveniently not wanting to be equipped…to let the huns catch-up…?

I worry that…I’ll ever be able to go and see the Celts again.

    I’m not an attention seeker.

If that were true then it’s a charge that could be filed against every poster on this blog.

Does anybody post then, hope that post garners no attention.

Not asking or, questioning Paul67’s stewardship of his blog but, there seems to be a certain degree of slack, allowed to certain posters to use colourful language with ‘impunity’ without the threat of having their account pulled…or is that my paranoia.

    That’s it.

    ….oot.

Uefa were/are terrified that the leading

clubs would/will break away and start their own competition, probably backed by the major broadcasters, hence the ‘agreement’ between Uefa and the ECA where the clubs give an undertaking to support the CL and EL for a number of years.

    Is it 2021?

But ‘agreements’ can be consigned to the dustbin.

Slow news day, anything to get their demographic buying the paper.

I actually think Advocaat has a decent track record, but I don’t see him back working at Ibrox. Not unless Ashley or GSL fancy queuing up at a food bank in the near future.

    Agree gents.

Imagine the clubs taking uefa to court over interference in company business – would make bosman a footnote of history by comparison – and/or establishing their own competition.

That would be logical capitalist thing to do. And money, like water, always seeks out cracks to seep or flood through.

How you doing, bud? No beer garden for me today. Cloudy and cold. Can I borrow yer scarf?

Aye,agreements can be broken. Compensation covers hurt feelings.

The problem is,I doubt I’m alone in being bored watching the same teams cancel each other out time and again. Great games worth the subscription are few and far between.

And,most are available on illegal streams, with highlights on YouTube within minutes.

I think there is an unsustainable business model about to discover The Law of Diminishing Returns.

Anyway, about that scarf. Hurry up. I’m choking for a smoke!

By her friends shall ye know her…

  19. I hate to drag up old stories, but this is still bugging me…

“Clearly there are some questions that we need to ask. Whether it is Hearts fans or any other fans, if you see that sort of thing happening then you need to be asking questions. We have to find out the facts as best we can and take it from there.” – Anne Budge, January 2015, after violent rioting by Hearts fans and sevco fans at Ibrox.

Has Anne Budge asked the questions yet as to why Hearts and Rangers fans were involved in violent rioting after their game in January? Has Anne Budge even formulated the questions yet? Or is Anne Budge content now to gloss over the violent behaviour of her fans and hope that everybody forgets? She had plenty to say about Celtic fans for writing on toilet walls – in fact she released a long statement condemning them and highlighting that there were bairns crying. Of that statement, Tom English said it was an “Excellent statement from Ann Budge. Strong leadership. Everybody should applaud her”.

It might serve Anne Budge better to be a little more circumspect. There are roasters in every support. If she wants to create a family atmosphere then she really wants to take a look at the violent sectarian bigots in her own support and address their unacceptable behaviour before reinforcing their persecution complex by issuing emotional statements about toilet grafitti and greeting weans. There’s no way in a million years I’d take my daughter to Tynecastle. It’s one of the most horrible grounds in the country due to the support. Maybe when Anne Budge fixes some of these issues, I might applaud her. Long way to go as far as I can see.

BTW – these days almost everyone in the ground has a mobile phone. There must be photos and videos of the grafitti and broken chairs but I haven’t seen any – has anyone got links to them?
