Gloriously difficult sincerity

523

Ruud Gullit is now telling us what a wonder-kid Karamoko Dembele is! The portents on this one are not good. The best thing for Karamoko right now would be to be left alone to develop his talent for three years. Comments from international stars is the last thing the boy needs.

I suspect the unprecedented frenzy which greeted his substitute appearance at Cappielow caught his mentors off guard. The decision to play him was made on football grounds; he’d earned the right to be there so was given the chance. That’s fair enough, you can’t hold a player back, no matter what his age. If he’s not challenged you right inhibiting his development, but the best thing for Karamoko would be a long stretch of anonymity.

I can’t get overexcited at Joey Barton charged with betting on 44 football games against SFA rules during his first few months in Scotland. While the same rule applies in England, Newco don’t play in England, so offenses there have been less prevalent, and therefore the rule is less prominent. A cursory punishment would be appropriate.

The media coverage of Barton this morning gives a fascinating slant on what is already a hoary old story. Joey, we are told, may be able to work his way back into his manger’s plans if he is sufficiently sincere when they meet early next week. Joey, of course, is always sincere.

You’ll seldom encounter people with the most alarming thought processes and in any way doubt their sincerity.

If anything, Joey’s persona could do with a little less frankness. Not for the first time, the Newco management will be measuring the wrong metric when trying to assess Barton.

They’re stuck with him, in all his gloriously difficult sincerity.

Going to a funeral this morning and I will be a Pall Bearer.

Don’t know the old dear; never met her. She died in a home with no family or friends; funeral being organised by a solicitor. Undertakers advised the Parish Priest that they would be using a trolley to bring the body in. He duly advised them that trolleys were restricted to Tesco and Asda and he would arrange the Pall Bearers. So along with 5 others I will be taking the dear old lady to her final resting place and to meet her maker.

Spare a thought for those so alone that they need to rely on strangers to bury them and to mourn for them.

Life is now firmly in perspective!

Thankfully there are good people like yourself willing to do the charitable (and Christian) act. Your PP also deserves praise for ensuring that the lady is treated in death with respect.

Prayers offered for the repose of the soul of the lady. As others have said, truly sobering and worthy of deep reflection. May the lady rest in peace. HH

  7. VFR,

God bless you for what you are doing for that old lady.

Many of us live alone. As much as I enjoy a beer ( in a pub),I can often go 4/5 days without seeing or speaking to a soul. That’s just the way it is for some.

I used to go out a lot more, usually a pub of course , but it took me a number of years to say enough was enough, as apart from my health, money wise drinking every day ain’t a good idea.

Damn it, I’ve just put myself in the mood for a few beers ?

Doesn’t help either when govt. is fecking them up. Know someone who relies on motobility skooter to get around. They are going to take that from her as well as her disability because she was not home due to staying with her son when she was ill when they attended her home for a pre-arrange interview. She forgot about it as she was ill. So, actually it is very easy to understand how people may end up in the situation of the old lady VFR is speaking about, especially so if they have no family.

Tam Baillie has worked in those areas too- his background info is available on wikipedia and on the cypcs site. I have not met Tam for over 30 years now but I do not remember him as being big into football.

I am sure he cares and is campaigning on ALL issues of relevance to Young People including young footballers. He is not a part of government but his appointment had to be approved by them (to my recollection, he was not an SNP supporter back in the 70s).

Whatever his slight political leanings or football allegiances are or were, he did not put Celtic in the dock with his statement. Other people have picked up on that statement and been much less careful or professional.

They are the enemy in this case, not Tam Baillie.

Of course, I would like him to be a bit more understanding and even handed in his understanding of the economics of football development programmes (though some clubs have given him cause for concern in the past by holding on to registrations of players who wanted to move abroad to colleges and universities etc:)

In his position as Children’s Commisioner, he is an advocate ( trying to forward and speak for the views and best interests of Young People) and not a Judge (charged with listening to both sides and trying to remain neutral).

Celtic could defuse their involvement in the side-swipe response to his statement by simply stating something along the lines of-

“We are aware of the issues raised by the Childrens’ Commisioner and we are fully supportive of them. The Health, Safety and Self Respect of our young footballers is of prime importance to us and we would do nothing to directly endanger these aspects of their development.

Our decision to play Karamoko for 10 minutes with an U-20s team on this occasion was entirely a footballing decision and one we knew he could cope with safely. Many players will play above their age level if they can cope with the playing and physical environment but they also retain links with teams nearer to their age level for most of their football. We will continue to arrange a judicious mix of this to suit each individual players development.

We deplore some of the actions and hype that flowed from others around our decision to play Karamoko in that match. We took no part in those events as a club and support the complaints made abut them.”

That covers all bases I think. Now, the question is- Does the club actually support the thinking involved in that statement of defence or were they playing the boy to keep him happy? I don’t know but, with 3 years to go before he can be signed to Celtic, we will have to do a lot of keeping happy to persuade him and his family to resist taking the bungs on offer from down south.

I am strongly in favour of letting the young players develop mostly amongst their mates and age groups. There will come a time soon when he can cope with the weight and physicality of older player’s tackling but it is hard to believe that you are anywhere near ready physically at 13 to be in with 19 year olds, in my opinion

  18. Tam Baillie need not worry about directing a dig at CFC, there are more than enough willing to help him out in that department on CQN, of that there is no doubt, all these hurting Huns need to do is put it out there, and the malcontents in here will just wade right in, it’s what they do ffs, but it’s ok to groom 14/15 year olds to hold up Palestinian Flags causing the club to get a €10,000 fine?

“Tam Baillie need not worry about directing a dig at CFC”

    He didn’t though.

The link you provide spells out the reasoning clearly. It states- “He doesn’t name Celtic directly but no doubt this is a reaction to the debut of the youngster Dembele for our development team a few days ago.”

Well there is a lot of doubt in that vague allegation.

If Tam Baillie wanted to put Celtic in the firing line, he would not have hesitated to name them. Instead he cited the actions of Ladbrokes in laying odds for bets on his future development and other unspecified clubs (but not Celtic) for their practices with holding on to registrations.

The website you linked has crossed the road to take offence on behalf of Celtic, when none was offered to Celtic. We are being suckered into this by the false newspaper and media presentations on this issue- they are the enemy not the guy who was doing his job.

  28. WEEMINGER @ 9:19…

There seems to be consideration being given to a change in the way in which away tickets are allocated.

At this stage it appears only to be a proposal.

However, the concern which I share, is that historic attendance at away matches may be disregarded.

In the close season (2016) a scheduled focus group to discuss this very issue was postponed.

In my view any change should only be introduced after a comprehensive consultation with the supporters representing all strands of our fan base

both individual and supporters clubs whether or not those clubs are in any of the affiliated associations.

    It was ever thus!
