    Edinson Cavani .

Italian media still claiming he is going to PSG but he and PSG are still haggling about image rights. .

Edinson Cavani should have been called Edison Cavani but his father made a mistake on the birth certificate . Edison after Thomas Edison . The family home had just had electricity installed and Mr /Mrs Cavani wanted their boy’s name to reflect modernity and progress .

Going to PSG in exchange for 63 million euros .

Napoli paid 12 million euros for him in 2010 .

Palermo paid 4.4 million euros for him in 2007.

  2. James McCarthy is being touted around for £20m! Which shows why, although at Celtic we might think it a lot, £12m for Wanyama is loose change.

Mccarthy is a talented lad but he’ll never have the physicality or presence of Wanyama. The type of stature the top clubs crave.

  4. Philbhoy – It’s just the beginning! @ 10:22,

“I was unaware until this morning of the lengthy injury list to our first teamers, including all that you mentioned …… The CL games against Cliftonville might be the platform for a youngster or two to stake a claim.”

Actually after my post I read the overnight stuff – although I knew we had a few doubts it seems worse than envisaged – pretty grim.

Lenny must have been looking for something, a commanding performance by Kayal, creativity from Rogic – A good defensive display, anything that would give him a plus.

Sammi and Stokes combining well is no surprise.

    We do have….

    Fraser Foster

    Lustig – Kelvin – Virgil – Izaguirre

    Commons – Kayal – Mulgrew – McGeouch

    Sammi – Stokes

Bit light but should be good enough for Solitude.

If we can add Hooper, Ledley, Brown or Forrest so much the better

But yesterday shows just what a work in progress we are.

    Hail! Hail!

  5. South of Tunis

I would expect that Palermo had a sell-on clause when they sold Cavani to Napoli.

    Possibly 20%?

So they would be due €12.6 million.

I wonder how much Gattuso will get to bring in other players of the calibre of Kyle Lafferty?

Lost me there. Checked stats. Nope only hooper scores enough goals to be considered a striker. One striker who scored enough goals. Not Good enough

Bhoys love talk of this spending money, but Neil will be my lucky to get 4 million of it. Very lucky

  8. No doom & gloom in the corkcelt household. Just opened my post to find a beautiful CQN Golf Shirt ordered and paid for by my friend kikinthenakas and sent to me by PaddyBhoy1888. P. have messaged you my thanks but would like to state publicly that you embody all that is good about being a Celtic Supporter. I’ll wear this shirt with pride, I’m wearing it as I post. I’m not playing today as I had an important family matter to deal with but I’ll be heading out to the course in a couple of hours as the teams come in, resplendent in my colours.

    Sorry,bud….

  10. its not doom and gloom but….

I’m afraid Neil will be lucky to see even half of the

big Vic money (6m)…its the way we operate.

He will only see half the Hooper money (3m) when he goes too…

And if I hear we’ve already spent 4m of the Wanyama money I’m gonna spew as

The money we have spent on two projects should be the min. we spend at every

Close Season before any transfer fees come in.

We need left back cover. again.

We need another centre half…big Efe bombscare not the answer.

We need a quality proven experienced midfielder to replace Wanyama…

Ledley and Brown being injured constantly is the reason we need this.

Kayal??? your havin a laugh if you think he’ll answer the call.

A playmaker is also needed and has been for 2-3 seasons (McCourt didn’t cut it unfortunately)

As for Forrest…waves his arms about and falls down injured for 6 weeks at a time.

so a fast winger is also required.

and then there’s the striker conundrum…

Will Balde cut it? We will have to wait and see.

Hooper will go. leaving us with nothing up front.

Resigning Stokes or not? Means we need at least 2 strikers.

That’s a whopping 7 players needed. Can’t see us getting that.

Yes, I know we will canter the league again with what we have but

we need champions league and without at least 5 signings I just cant

see us making it into the group stages.

    hey ho…could be worse

we could be sons of satan or their cousins.

I want us to improve however and not do just whats required.

  11. Malone Bhoy

Your quite right. Wanyamas been sold far too cheaply. I would have preferred that we had made him a £40,000 a-week offer to stay another season.

I fear our chances of qualifying for the CL groups stages have been severely diminished.

But we move on and hopfully a new hero will emerge.

  12. Now that my medication has kicked in, what should we be doing in regards to losing Vic? buy a replacement? bring through a youth player? or carry on with the model of identifying young cheap players we can sell on for a profit?

If we stick with the latter it means we will go to January at the earliest without a replacement and the squad weakened, which will be fine domestically but fatal to getting beyond the CL group stages.

Since my own preferred option has English silly money prices to his name and is way beyond our means and no-one else springs to mind if I was Paul George I would be busting a gut this year to make the breakthrough.

Does anyone have a list of who’s injured and when they can be expected to return to the first team? Going by last night’s shambles, I’m really hoping to see Broon and Ledley back in the team next week.

Kayal shouldn’t even be at the club after he blatantly downed tools to blackmail a new deal out of the club. He has not improved, makes reckless challenges and the weakest part of his game is that he doesn’t track opposition midfield runs into our box. That will cost us in Europe.

The back three last night just didn’t work, even allowing for the lack of familiarity between the players. I found myself feeling sorry for Wilson, who must have felt that he was surrounded by players from the Juniors!

The midfield offered very little protection in either half of the game, they have no excuses.

Our experienced players have a healthy conceit of themselves and won’t be affected, but last night’s performance & result was hardly a morale booster for the squad.

On the subject of the evening ko, I had hoped we had seen the last of these after the Sunday evening games from a number of years ago. We get virtually nothing from the SPFL tv deal, but our fans are getting messed around as early as the first home game.

It won’t change, as long as our board continue to believe that Sky are the only platform for raising our awareness outwith Scotland.

  15. I have the answer to ALL our woes, sack PL and appoint Sydney ‘Tim”. He would soon sign Messi and Ronaldo plus he would make a profit on those deals which could then be spent on Rooney – simple!

De Laurentiis has said -there is no sell on clause . .

The Napoli based media thought that Napoli had got a great deal when they signed Cavani Most assumed that Palermo’s owner had been given something ” not taxable “.

Any idea what happened with Palermo?

A few seasons ago they were one of the best teams in Europe for scouting and selling on for big money. The likes of Simon Kjær, Javier Pastore, Edinson Cavani etc.

    HH!!

  20. Wanyama for me, has been one of the best players I have seen in a Celtic jersey. Prototype modern player, of the type sought after by clubs worldwide. We need to replace him with a similar player asap. Not simply because he will leave a huge gap (which he will) but also because we can sell the next ghuy on for a fat profit as well. Big, strong tackling, athletic defensive midfielders are highly desirable commodities, and there are 2 or 3 in the market who are affordable and could enhance our squad.

  21. Sully. Just think balance sheet is being looked at too strongly

We have huge injury problems and we sell our only midfield player

Me. I would have kept him for 2 years. Gave him an increase in salary

As the 12.5 m. Means nothing to Neil and the fans. We are now weaker

  22. Scullyboy you have no idea, sack PL and that useless manager whatsisname and appoint SydneyTims wife. She knows far more about a winning team than her good man. : )

Seriously are we oot all the Cups and lost the League already. Pre season friendlies are no as good as they used to be the Man U 4-3 game at old trafford was a cracker.

I would be surprised if a few very good new player don’t have a go at Paradise after we get into the next round of the CL. Good on Neil for making sure we get no injuries even if it means we ship a few goals in the warm up.

looking forward to another cracker of a season . Let the real games begin.

  23. Murphy, Rogne & Gershon have disappeared off the list of first team players on the Official website, however Miku, Lassad & Paddy remain there. Maybe its just some technical thing re dates they were registered etc. but you would imagine if a deal was cut short by mutual consent eg Lassad, that the guy is gone and his name would be removed from list.

  24. Afternoon bhoys hot, humid and hun free in the mountain valley.

Leccy is just back on after thunder storms last night, the thunder wisny in Bavaria.

If Vic is gone, so be it.

There is not a hope in hell Lenny will get 4 mill of the cash to spend.

And if Hoops goes, dearie me, we will be in big trouble.

  25. ST It sounds like Victor wanted to go to the EPL so if we couldn’t hold him makes sense to see some money for finding him. Watch this space we will buy a few more players and hopefully a gem or two. I would like to see Aiden back whipping in crosses for those big men we have just signed. We will be a much stronger competitive team when the action begins. Hail Hail

  26. pabloh_AKA_NEIL LENNON on

12.5m is great money. Wanyama has shown the level of his ambition; to play in the EPL at any cost. Southampton?? Where a 14th place finish, a shock win against arsenal/man u/Chelsea and an FA cup quarter final would equate to a successful season. Go vic, chase the money. Number 67 aye good one!

How much money could we have got from a big club for him? I think we were a bit early to let everyone know 12.5m was enough.

The problem is, does anyone expect us to be able to replace him? And the bigger problem is – he was the one central midfielder we had that could stay injury free, all the others – ledley (not so much), Kayal & Brown are crocks!!

  27. John Park could do with a trip over to Nigeria.

Most of their squad play in their domestic league, Vic’s replacement could be had for a couple of mill.

    Palermo ?

The owner is big on hiring, firing and occasionally re hiring Managers .. No continuity and a constant crisis .

He is the Boss , . Palermo is his baby .

Palermo fans tend to think they are heading for Serie C . . They don’t see Gattuso as being a good thing . They tend to assume that Lafferty is there to be Gattuso’s man in the dressing room ..

Lu -lu owner compared Lafferty to Luca Toni and when the media scoffed at that , he quickly made the point that it was Gattuso who had given him that impression .

    Palermo are a shambles.

    EN

  35. Guys,

We beat Benfica at Parkhead last year without Wanyama.

Our current squad should be capable of qualifying for the Champions League.

Last year we lost a pre season friendly with an almost first choice team 4-1? to Ajax. We still qualified.

In saying all that last nights result was abysmal. You would have hoped that fringe players like Rogic, Stokes, Mulgrew, Kayal etc. would be busting a gut to start the season in the first team!! Really, really disappointing from them.

The injury list is pretty worrying. We absolutely must have Brown and Ledley fit for the qualifiers!!

Finally sad to see Wanyama go but £12.5m is great business for the club. Lenny should definitely be given £6-7m to spend now. That would still leave £6m for the club. I know he has already spent £4m but we made at least £10m from the Champions League last season. The figure in the half year accounts was £15m profit (this probably dwindled in the second half of the season when we didn’t bring in as much cash…..hence the conservative £10m estimate).

  36. Hot Summer, warm Autumn and very mild Winter at least in the Bay of Plenty. Snowing a couple of hours down the road , good for the skiers.

Still a long way to go in the transfer game and we have already secured three signings who may or may not be the biz, remember a wee Swede , an old Slovac and our most recent who from Nigeria. The big signings the last decade have all disappointed with the real legends coming from unexpected places. The Celtic scouts have done a great job last few years , you have to acknowledge that, so lets see what they bring to Celtic this year. Neil Lennon will be ready when it matters.

Hope the family are all going well ST. Was in Sydney in April but the four days were spent with family out West and showing my girls our old haunts in Coogee Bondi and the Rocks.
