LEIGH GRIFFITHS is being investigated by police after claims he sent inappropriate messages to a second teenage girl on social media.
The Celtic striker, who will be 31 next month, has already been sent home from the Hoops’ pre-season training camp as the club prepared to launch their own probe, as CQN reported during the week.
Griffiths is lying low after it was revealed cops are looking at an exchange between an account linked to the forward and a 15-year-old girl who is a youth player with a Scottish football team.
Griffiths is thought to have returned to his luxury property in Bothwell, Lanarkshire, on Wednesday, after being sent home from Celtic’s pre-season training camp in Wales after the allegations emerged.
It’s not known yet if the exchange is genuine, who the girl is or how old she is, but Police Scotland have admitted they were aware of the social media content and are assessing it.
Asked if they were aware of the second image being circulated on the same platform, a police spokeswoman told the Daily Record: “We are aware of the social media content and the matter is currently being assessed.”
Father-of-five Griffiths is believed to be hiding away with Caitlyn Melville, his girlfriend of several years, while the investigations are ongoing.
Celtic confirmed the player had left the training camp on Tuesday and said it would “look into this matter carefully”. The club also had no further comment to make.
The club recently activated a 12-month clause on Griffiths’ contract to keep him at Parkhead for the crucial season ahead.
