Guidetti awaits Fifa, Scepovic held nerve

1862

Celtic await ratification of Guidetti’s transfer by the SFA.  The player travelled to Glasgow yesterday afternoon and quickly concluded a deal with Celtic, but it took until late in the evening before paperwork arrived from Manchester.

Aware of the delay, Celtic applied to the SFA for an extension.  The SFA authorised the extension and subsequently received all relevant paperwork, Celtic believed they were over the line, but I understand we are in new territory with respect to extensions, so the SFA have asked Fifa for guidance.

Paperwork was submitted considerably before Manchester United completed the 2am signing of Radamel Falcao, so there is reason for hope, but it’s not clear in Glasgow what discretion the FA used to register Falcao.  The same may or may not be available to the SFA.

There are also time constraints, player lists for Uefa group stage competitions need to be completed by 23:00 tonight, and we can’t add the player until Fifa issue guidance to the SFA.

If Celtic wanted a more complicated transfer than Guidetti they surely found it with our Serbian striker, Stefan Scepovic.  Transfers involving influences across multiple countries are often difficult……

One thing Celtic are clear about is the endurance of the player, who had to sit through difficult hours in order to make the deal happen.  He kept his nerve as others tried to sell him to Getafe – who were under no Financial Fair Play restrictions.

We’ll do a wrap-up of the window tomorrow.

  1. Apologies for the random posting on EBTs. But was just listening to presentation by major accounting firm which included section on EBTs and the Murray Holdings case, ” affectionately known as the Rangers Football Club case”. Apart from that singularly offensive remark, they put HMRCs contunued pursuit in context. HMRC have been trying to shut down EBTs for years. There is a wide range of schemes within the term, and in order to bring closure, they opened up a settlement window some time ago. HMRC have raised GBP 800mn from a similar number of employers. Less than hoped.HMRC have now announced that the settlement window, ie cut a deal, will close on 31 March 2015. They want a success from the Murray case, partly from the fact that some of the judgment pulls the rug from underneath HMRCS main arguments. And partly to encourage the large number of cases not settled to cut a quick acceptable deal. Thus HMRCs determination to take Murray all the way. Such a shame .

I love a good debate mate. Love it. I’m also, I think, open-minded on issues, and I am always willing to have it changed.

I do tend to jump when someone is challenging me and not the point.

Like I said … working on it.

Well done to the club for quashing any notions of a transfer for VvD . More people on here heard the manager’s statement but continued to post that he would be sold anyway. So far, I have not seen any retractions or apologies. Bet there would have been plenty “told you so” if he had gone

    Very good point sir.

Well 6 appearances all as sub. Don’t think his total playing time amounted to 3×90 mins.

Allegedly he had a big row with MH after his first appearance!

Allegedly MH has a track record of falling out with folk!

  5. Last post before I go out, McGinley is a huge Celtic Fan. Always has a Celtic towel on his golf bag. Would probably get a few thousand a year from an advertiser to have a different towel. Also a friend of mine met up with him at a social event and the talk was about Celtic, he came across as a huge fan.

My point was on people saying rules are rules and thats the end of it. Sometimes, I don’t think that to be true. I think this is unjust, just as the ordering not to fly the tricolour in 1951 was unjust. The reasons may be different, but the argument does not change in my view.

  8. So Celtic and St Johnstone and being taken to task over the flying of Palestinian flags by supporters?

    Laughable.

Please take a stand on this Celtic.

  11. I think some posters are being called out erroneously with the term passive aggressive. This describes a situation where people will take offence in order to make it look as though they have been attacked. More widely, it is the indirect expression of hostility, such as through procrastination, sarcasm, stubbornness, sullenness, or deliberate or repeated failure to accomplish requested tasks for which one is (often explicitly) responsible. As in PL and DD are passively-aggresive in refusing to make Celtic great again :-)

The post from mickbhoy on the previous page which reads:-

“I am sooooooo glad I found that out can you enlighten me further as to the footballing persuasions of the other automatic Ryder Cup picks just so who I know who to denigrate and who to applaud”

IS an example that could be labelled passive aggressive because he is being sarcastic towards a poster who merely supplied him with information and made no attack on him.

When someone directly criticises you, they are being actively aggressive.

Next week, I will have a go at Cognitive Dissonance (I’m no being sarcastic, honest!)

  12. “Bringing a player like VVD to the club on the cheap, developing him and selling him for really big money 2 or 3 years later is a good strategy. Selling for half-decent money after only one year when you’ve been pumped out of the CL is not a strategy! It is complete and utter failure!”

Play in a UEFA competition and you agree to conform to UEFA Rules and Regulations . If UEFA deem that a Club is in breach of those Rules and Regulations ,they will punish that Club ..

That said , UEFA are a corrupt corporate monster who have succeeded in making whores out of football clubs and would very much like to do the same with the people who attend UEFA games..

I don’t know if you have read it but I wrote an article in the first edition of CQN Magazine ( I think ) called GOOD MORNING FATTY which was a discussion with a guy who had a lot of experience in football finance including when he was asked to help Portsmouth just as it went down.

He was told way back then that HMRC will chase Rangers till the cows come home.

The book “I am the Secret Footballer” claims that many ex players have had the knock at the door from the tax man claiming money in respect of payments to trusts and that many players have paid substantial sums by agreement.

Further, the Government have made several changes to the law and have declared those changes to be retrospective thus increasing the hand that Hector holds.

Some have challenged the law changes through the courts and those cases are still ongoing.

So there is a hole myriad of initiatives and policies being carried out in the background and there is no way that Hector is simply going to retire into the background.

Interesting debate on the flags lads, whilst we await the Guidetti clarification. That sounds like a book title or a film. “The Guidetti Clarification” starring Harrison Ford as Peter Lawell.

For those advocating that we just obey this new rule on, what seems to be Palestinian flags only, and get on with it, I assume you think was Bob Kelly was therefore wrong in 1951-52 Season to continue to fly the Irish Tricolour at Parkhead ?

    Have to say I don’t.
