I see the story that Feyenoord are chasing John Guidetti has lasted more days than I expected. John Guidetti is a likeable guy and seems to have enjoyed his time at Celtic, but he desperately needs to show some form before the end of the season if he is to attract the attention of Feyenoord or any team of that calibre.
One aspect often overlooked about Guidetti is his inexperience. The player is still only 22 and had started only 30 games before arriving at Celtic Park last season, there’s a good chance that by the end of the season he will have played more games for Celtic than anyone else. On paper, a season at Celtic was a chance to sort his career out, grab first team football at a prestigious club who were short of a centre forward. Conversely, being kept out of the team by Leigh Griffiths will damage his reputation.
Barcabhoy sent me an interesting summary of Celtic’s material loss since the liquidation of Rangers. The figures below compare the three years before Rangers liquidation with the two and a half years since.
As you see, even though we are comparing a shorter time period after liquidation, Celtic’s turnover and profitability is still miles better than when we had to compete with Rangers.
This should end any nonsense about Celtic needing or in any way missing Rangers. We lost some revenue streams: domestic commercial and ticket income, but the slipstream to European revenues have more than made up for the gap. More importantly, we are also no longer caught in an arms race with a death-risk opponent, allowing us to bring costs below income and plan longer than the current season.

On a scale of one to Henrik Larsson where is John Guidetti?
*******
Compared to Larsson, I’d place him sub Sebo!

Sorry, been off-line since yesterday afternoon. Can you please get my email from Paul if possible and we can arrange to meet up.
Sorry to mess you around.
DownForSam :
What good is money in the bank to football supporters, if it is not theirs and their team is… well let’s just say, at the last test, just not up to it.
I was around in 67 and we didn’t have a lot of money back then. Real Madrid did, Barcelona did, a right good few teams did, but we had quality on the park, real quality and we were not a selling club.
It’s Parkhead in my eyes, not Wall Street.
Mort,
You’ve been sorely missed neebs

I’m just wondering why when PL spoke out the tabloid headlines didn’t read ‘ sevco not needed by Celtic show figures’
Funny that
Found this amusing……as well as no cred, and no credit, they also have no crests… HaHahahahahaha

Just a correction…. RIFC don’t have crests they have two badges one of which (three overlapping letters RFC is more accurately called a cypher).
A crest is the heraldic motif which sits on top of the helmet on a coat of Arms.
Coats of Arms in Scotland are awarded and governed by The Lord Lyon King of Arms Court in Edinburgh under the Scottish Government.
Journalistic inaccuracies here and in SMSM.
The Rangers have no Crests.”

Some thoughtful figures, mort.
But I’d counter them by using the ‘monkeys in a room with typewriter eventually producing Shakespeare’ adage – Guidetti’s playing time has been excessive for the quality of perfomance he’s produced.
I’d like to see Scepovic’s figures given the same amount of game-time.
In 67 we won the big one with lift overs and no toilet paper in the loos’.
What loos’?
Was there a Ladies toilet at the Celtic end?
Maybe statistically the reason we haven’t won the big one since is because we now spend so much on loo roll, and unearned bonuses….
Or maybe we are just a wee team in a parochial league and right wing Sky just don’t like us, nor our history, nor our allegiances.
I don’t know.
Intersting figures
how do they stack up with PL`s assertion that we were losing money with no RFC
i think he suggested as much as £10m
Scepovic can’t score if nobody will pass to him.
how many goals had Guidetti scored from open play ?
Kit
correct
the service to Scepovic has been dreadful…he has still managed a few goals tho

There’s a difference between losing money [ie a decline in income] and making a loss [ie expenditure exceeds income].
In short, if we were in the same league as the huns and playing them regularly, our income would increase, and provided they weren’t a threat to us, our expenditure wouldn’t have to increase.
So a weak huns team in the top league is the ideal outcome.

If there was ever one part of the King of Kings game I loved more than any other it was the way, more often than not, he’d pass to a team mate in space, if he thought they were in a better position to score than he.
How do you spell that, is it – putting the need of a result before personal glory, or just a real professional being humbly unselfish?
Mort-welcome back.

Don’t think Guidetti’s game time has been excessive. A total of 1840 mins from 31 games.
Scepovic, I agree, hasn’t been given the same opportunities but when he has played he hasn’t really set the heather alight. From 834 mins, he has 4 goals and 1 assist. Impossible to say how better these figures would be if he was getting game time, but looking at his statistics throughout his career (excluding Celtic) he scores once every 188 mins and gets a goal or assist every 141 mins. Still somewhat short of Guidetti’s performance this season.

Winning instinct for the greater good.
“how many goals had Guidetti scored from open play ?”
Pfayr,
Them all bar 3 or 4 I’d guess.
Do goals scored in a loan period pump up your potential future earnings elsewhere?
If you are worried about your job would you lay it on a plate for a contender to steal your jersey?
Karen Buckley, the young lass from Cork, who has been missing in Glasgow since Sunday morning has still not been found.
Man she was spotted with has been traced and is helping the polis with their inquiries.
Hope and pray she is found safe and well.
Interesting set of figures from Barcabhoy got me looking at EPL figures (accounts ending June 2013) – see link:
http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/may/01/premier-league-accounts-club-by-club-david-conn
Without doubt – TV/Media rights skew the comparisons (higher wages, match-day revenues etc). However (just as a talking point) – take the CFC 2013 figures and add £40M (TV/Media rights) = £115M and compare where we stand with the EPL teams in the article.
I would guess circa Top 6. The interesting figures (profit/loss and nett debt) based on how CFC are run – would suggest we are well out front if you were to apply similar ratios to our annual accounts.
Forget the hun factor – where we are, the type of player we can attract (including wages) = the quality on the park. How we get to the next level/ bridge the gap is the $64K question? No matter what the Board do – we are in a ‘Limbo’ period till such times as we get into a bigger (European?) market. Meantime, we can only deliver our best on and off the field and hope that our aspirations are achieved sooner rather than later.
H!H!
Another point I would like to make about Guidetti is to compare his performance with that of the best striker we have had in recent years, Gary Hooper.
Gary played 138 times for Celtic and scored 82 goals and made 30 assists. Overall he scored or assisted once every 99 mins. He scored once every 188 mins.
JG’s record for both is way better.
Mort
the long wait is over
Thanks, think its harder to argue with hard evidence than anything else but maybe not :)
Mort
Mort:
Just curious, but where are you getting your stats from?
Mort.
Excellent analysis, surprised when reading JG contribution.
Never mind guidetti, I’m stunned to read that Stokes and Commons have had 21 assists between them!!! :-o

Could also be that a certain PL is on the SFA board and using his influence, hopefully.
The difference between Stefan Šćepović and John Guidetti, the most obvious one…
Šćepović signed for us.
Reports of traffic chaos in Donegal Town, due to a visit from a well heeled celebrity from the West of Scotland.
All Gardai leave cancelled and travellers are warned to allow extra time on their journey to Super Valu.
There gave, as yet, been no reports of trouble, although security remains at high alert.
My gut feeling is that the compliance officer has binned the JG charge, or left it in abeyance to see if anyone chases it up, which brings me to thinking that why thems from the “simply the crest” or the smsm haven’t been chasing it up, to me it looks like someone has said, there is no charge here on JG, and then it’s open season on Huns, it’s obvious something has happened, because the silence on the matter is deafening.
Lurking Huns girfuys.

I was at the bar earlier wi my Scouse mate(lives in Reading now) when a fella walked in,regaled in Hooray Henry gear and wearing a Tory rosette, ordered up hugely.
I took pleasure in him jumping the queue,I did. Really.
Especially when I pointed out that five others, including myself, were before him in the queue. And ordered up.
I then added that I hoped he could remember his order better than his manifesto promises. With a wee aside to my mate re entitlement,in terms not acceptable here.
He was still waiting ten minutes later. Seems the staff don’t like queue-jumpers…
