Hayes, Koki Mizuno and the right-mid gap

1491

You and I have been doing this long enough to remember this place in meltdown at the prospect of Celtic signing a player from another SPL club. Domestically sourced talent was regarded as unimaginative, cheap, even. Contrast this with the utter joy when we signed Koki Mizuno, who was full-on exotic, but built for finer things then competitive football.

At 29, Aberdeen’s Irish international midfielder, Jonny Hayes is certainly unimaginative, and may be comparatively cheap, but he’s also a low-risk option for Celtic, who will know what they could get (and what they will not get) from the player.

With Patrick Roberts due to report to Manchester City on his return from holiday, Celtic are short of options for right-mid, with the first Champions League qualifier only five weeks away. The manager will view this gap in his squad as an unnecessary risk to next season’s objectives.

  1. Borini is like Callum McGregor in that he can cover several positions. He can play in any of the four attacking positions. If the manager wants to reduce the squad size he needs players who play well in more than one position.

Martin Caceres, who we have been linked with, is similar in defence. A centre half who can play in either full back positions.

Hang on in there, mate. I don’t expect a liracle, but the former UKIP voters who went from red to purple may not go the whole hog blue.

Apologies, about the Borrini steer, I was told before Christmas is was going to happen and with Brendan going for former players he trusts, so it made sense

  5. Re Borini, if he does sign then I’d be delighted

    1) he has talent that hasn’t really been harnessed but BR knows him well.

    2) the SMSM label him a flop, and we have a good track record with these “flops”

I’m a floating voter at present, I’ve voted labour all my life, although my mam voted Tory (God rest her) we had political discussions at every election time, my family was brought up with politics.

I’m with TET on this, things can be allowed to happen to secure votes.

I wouldn’t trust any government but more so a Tory one. HH

From my view Britain is close to another recession in the not too distant future. A Tory win in this election has the bright side of the fact that they will become well and truly hated in the next 5 years as they impart their ideology, meaning they will probably not be elected for another generation after that.

The down side being all the lives they will ruin in those 5 years.

The invincible so under Brendan are at the start of something a long way from being stale or needing freshened up.

With that in mind I’m as wary about arrivals as I am about departures.

So I’m more hopeful we go in to the next season with the core guys fully committed. My guess is we can’t afford players who are better than what we have. That’s a positive reflection on the guys we have. A few of whom are now £3m+ players in my estimation.

Dembele is a different case from the others as he’s in the big league potential. Personally any bid of £15-20m looks like great business to me. Anything beyond £20m is phenomenal.

Lawwell And Desmond should be bumping up Brendan’s salary.. That would be the best transfer business we could do.

  19. Hello again, not been in since last night. Have I missed some dodgy posts? Good

I spent a couple weeks of hours last night checking that the lhad was safe in London, he was of course watching the football with the West London CSC , a few miles away from the crimes being committed . With the detached coolness of youth he informed me at 11.30 he was in the pub. I told him to get home, at 1.30am, he texted me to say that he had made it home. In that space of time,I was a nervous wreck. Even though I knew he was not near the event, I have great pity and admiration for anyone who had freinds or family near that area last night, a prayer was said for you all

I loved thePilger piece posted earlier, funny. ( sorry that’s the wrong word) to hear that half wit May now saying enough is enough.

There is no level a politician will sink to keep her job or to keep the banks and hedge funds inside.

Shame on anyone who supports this government . She got one thing right, enough is enough.

As my Iberian sojourn reaches its final leg, it seems an eon since we all arrived in Lisbon, complete with strong voices, healthy livers and bulging wallets.

Finished off the Costa lap watching the CL final in Benalmadena’s excellent John Lemon bar (your pint’s In the tap Kickinthenakas) who were visited this week by none other than Alan ‘the perm’ Rough. So after their other recent celeb pop in, Kevin Bridges, their disappointment was palpable when myself and not Rod Stewart rocked up last night !

Heard that the aforementioned Kickinthenakas, with batteries recharged, was heading to the Costa tomorrow accompanied by a score of rowdy gowfers so I’ve decamped up into the rarified air of Mijas Pueblo for some much needed R&R before returning midweek to beautiful Embra.

So looking forward to replaying the Cup Final in full, this time without the gut churning anxiety of CR7 (was that really 8 days ago ?) and with the certainty that I’ll keep my top on this time when TR slots the winner in the onion bag !

In a world full of human tragedy and despicable politicians, the Celtic family shines like a beacon of selfless charity, good deeds and camaraderie. I look forward to our reunion next month as the season kicks off in earnest.

So many memories, some quite hazy now, so who’s got the photies and the videos of the now world famous Lisbon invasion ? HH

The Celtic squad combined value is close to £100million.

Moussa, KT and Jozo worth £50million at least.

I think it vital that Stuart Armstrong is signed up for another 3 seasons.

Brendan Rodgers has already stated the days of English clubs buying our best for a pittance are over.

£15-20million for Moussa is good business?

    Madness I tell thee,madness.

Sure people thought that selling Virgil for £13.5million was a good deal when it most definitely wasn’t a good deal for Celtic – one of the best central defenders to have played the game in Scotland – the only slight positive being the 15% sell-on clause.
