Hayes, Koki Mizuno and the right-mid gap

1491

You and I have been doing this long enough to remember this place in meltdown at the prospect of Celtic signing a player from another SPL club. Domestically sourced talent was regarded as unimaginative, cheap, even. Contrast this with the utter joy when we signed Koki Mizuno, who was full-on exotic, but built for finer things then competitive football.

At 29, Aberdeen’s Irish international midfielder, Jonny Hayes is certainly unimaginative, and may be comparatively cheap, but he’s also a low-risk option for Celtic, who will know what they could get (and what they will not get) from the player.

With Patrick Roberts due to report to Manchester City on his return from holiday, Celtic are short of options for right-mid, with the first Champions League qualifier only five weeks away. The manager will view this gap in his squad as an unnecessary risk to next season’s objectives.

I don’t see why that was below the belt?

A threat to our children is a threat no matter the ethnicity of the perpetrator/s. They killed innocents by any means to suit their warped agendas.

A threat is a threat and therefor treated the same no matter who.

And remember the individual who killed Dunblanes young children had a gun licence and was deemed a reasonable man to own guns (plural).

The thought of going down the American route scares the living shit out of me more than any threat from radicalised loonies. Put a gun in the hands of an evil man then expect consequences.

If that’s the Scotland you want and it comes to that then I’ll be moving out. I wouldn’t want to ever have to teach my son how to fire a gun for his own defence.

Yeah. It may stop or hinder an occasional terrorist but imagine our cities on a Saturday night when the pubs empty.

  2. What is the Stars on

The Great War For Civilisation by Robert Fisk well worth a read

Bit dated in the sense that it was written maybe 10 years ago and obviously doesnt include recent events like the Arab Spring and the rise of ISIS but traces western meddling in the Middle East from the break up of the Ottoman Empire at the end of WWI up to 2005.

It helped give me an insight into this troubled region and its relationship with the west

Nothing can excuse the recent events that we have seen in Paris Berlin Manchester and London….but there are reasons why these things have come to pass.

Thanks for the response Ernie. Sorry I took up your time. I never intended to to intrude on grieving time. Apologies to all.

    OK, What is the answer?

You can’t talk to these people.

Are you saying we should take what is coming our way, no matter what?

Or should we fight whatever way we can to preserve our families and our way of life?

You obviously don’t have any Irish relatives?

I do and I am grateful they fought for their beliefs and way of life.

What is the alternative Danny, seriously?

  5. Something must be done.

    This is something.

Then that is what we must do.

  6. Surely the question is moot? There’s no way the British State will allow civilians to carry guns legally – it would create a much bigger problem and easy access for looneys to get hold of them and carry out more attacks.

However, if people feel the State is no longer able to protect them adequately then they may seek to acquire weapons themselves. No idea how possible that is – wouldn’t think it would be easy for your average Joe.

Either way – not sure it would help much against a crazy driving a Transit van at you.

The police responded quickly in the latest incident and shot 3 dead, but by that time many people had already been killed and injured. Problem is how to prevent an attack.

It’s our politicians you should be asking that question of directly! Firstly a complete change in foreign policy is required. Stop arming those who threaten us because at some point, for a wee while, they are on the same side against a common enemy such as the Russians in Afghanistan or Assad in Syria. Stop treating the rest of the world like you own it and all it’s resources.

A feel no more at threat from one of these attacks as I did when I demonstrated on the streets when Blair the warmongering (insert expletive) took the country to war at American insistence in the early part of the century. We all knew what evils that would return on us.

If you want a gun to protect your family then I also advise a rocket launcher to stop the lorries or a tank so you can drive around your family in complete safety.

    Where does it end buddy?

I don’t know the answer to your question but putting guns in the hands of anyone and everyone is going to be a greater risk to O on a normal weekend night out than any threat from a radicalised individual or individuals.

I think you’ve misunderstood me. What I’m saying is :

    – Some people may attempt to take things into their own hands.

    – Even if they did this would not protect them against random van attacks.

I’m not advocating people trying to acquire weapons.

  14. INVINCIBLE 'GG on

My take on the overnight and earlier discussions on the London attack.

Feel free to disagree, contradict or reject completely.

These attacks are not about revenge for killings in any part of the Middle East.

A symptom of the struggle within Islam is the death of a shopkeeper in Glasgow in March 2016.

He was executed by another Moslem, a Sunni, who felt the shopkeeper, Asad Shah, was disrespecting the Prophet. Asad was an Ahmadi.

We are generally ignorant of the deep divisions within the many branches of the main strands of Islam, Sunni and Shia.

The strict Saudi version of Islam is derived from the Wahhabi fundamentalist interpretation of the Koran. The ministry of Islamic Affairs in Riyadh is responsible for the financing of mosques and clerics adhering to the extreme views and also finances mosques and clerics throughout the Christian western countries.

Inside Saudi, all non aherents to the violent fundamentalism of Wahhabism are persecuted. Not just Christians, Jews, Hindus etc, but Shia, Ahmadis, Sufis are all “infidels” according to Saudi Sharia law.

These overseas clerics are weaponising impressionable pliable faithful throughout Europe to help bring about the Caliphate and the destruction of all other faiths.

These attacks are not just revenge attacks for Moslem deaths, they themselves have killed far more Moslems than “infidels” have. They are a message to all other sects/denominations/branches that there is only one true version of the law.

They also act to discourage any moderate Moslems from relaxing their attitude to western civilization, assimilation in their host countries or compromising their fundamentalism.

The solution only lies in Saudis reining in their activities, by cutting off funding, softening the attitude to all other religions and by becoming a more secular state.

Not something I foresee in my lifetime.

Do you mean all violence everywhere?

Of course you don’t, that’s just stupid.

You mean the particular incidents of violence perpetrated recently here in the UK by a few fanatical nutters. I assume that’s what you mean, because that’s the violence that concerns us most. The other stuff doesn’t bother us so much.

I don’t think there is a solution. Certainly not a short term one.

I think we just learn to live with it.

Maybe reappraise some foreign policy issues to try to avoid making the situation worse.

And carry on as best we can.
