Historic Vatican visit represents us all

229

I like David Turnbull, when given a chance, he does a job for Celtic and he has a role to play in this season’s title race.  But talk about AC Milan being interested in him is surely fanciful.  Scots have done well in Italy recently, David could thrive there, but the demands at Milan would not make that city an easy place to prosper.

The Vatican is the most inspiring place I have ever visited.  The scale and intricacy of its buildings and statues are unlike anywhere else in the world.  My ‘audience’ with Pope Francis was with several thousand others and from a distance of around 100m.  Still, it was a ‘thing’.

It was an historic occasion when the Celtic party who met the Pope in person yesterday morning.  The doors to the Vatican opened to them because they represent you and me and our club.  He spoke of our founding goal, to “alleviate poverty in the city of Glasgow”.  A timely reminder of the work the Foundation will carry out this winter.

Sorry to hear of the passing of Shane McGowan.  His cover of the Celtic Song was an instant classic.  It’s impossible not to smile when thinking about Shane.

  1. Butland – can’t blame him for the goal ok overall

    Tav – anonymous

    Soutter – poor

    Davies – poor

    Barasic – gutless

Lundstrum – did as well as he could ok overall

    Cifu – poor

    Lammers – wasteful

Cantwell – circus performance until subbed

Sima – ok but far from his best

    Danilo – poor

That’s what I seen anyway. You get away with one or two underperforming but when it’s only one or two performing these are the results you are going to get.

Hard to know who to blame.

    ———

we wont even win in the conference, f####n horseshoe football at the end , no urgency to try and win , we are so poor. Players who cannot do the basics and what is the game plan ? We need players who can create and beat a man, Soutar is the only who runs with the ball. Decisions when we get to the box are so poor. We did not deserve to win tonight, no skill, no knowledge of how to play football, and not enough heart to be winners

    =

Anyone who thinks we could win the conference is off there nut, we are about 3 levels below that .

  2. “Philippe Clement says for the first time he experienced nerves among his Rangers team and the Ibrox crowd in the 1-1 draw with Aris Limassol.”

“Booooo” must have a different meaning in Belgian

  3. Never watched the hun game. Absolutely no interest in it.

However if they are as bad as they are made out to be on here, the league is a formality.

  4. Good morning cqn from a -6 and a very, very frosty Garngad.

Might not make the meet up today at the Shipbank as I have a few meetings I need to get sorted….I have told colleagues I dont do bloody meetings on a Friday afternoon. Aaaargggg🤣

Some on here are missing the point regarding”wanting Huns shafted in every game they play and slagging some of our own support for pointing out our defficiences” by saying things like oh the Huns are shite as I watched them” and then going onto say ” that some of our support say the League is not a forlon conclusion as we will struggle against packed defences as we need quality to break down said defences”

Although the Huns are shite in tight games in scotland they get help from Referees probably worth at least 15 points on the other hand we get refereed differently and it costs us about 12 points a season thats about a 27 point swing on top of that we have our boars costing us tight games by banning our 12th man (our support GB), another 5 or 6 points.

Point is we need quality no matter how anyone spins it.

    Have a nice day yall.

Ps might see some of you today if I can rattle through meetings.

  5. An Tearman plaque and very small garden to John McLean in Barrhead, heading up to the Killoch Glen. Red Clydesiders were a big deal in there day.

  6. What I was alluding to is that we should be playing entertaining winning football with two upfront in domestic games.

We have nobody to fear in Scotland, so why not. ? Imo, it is not too much to ask in a league of our stature.

Ditch the pointing and the negative moral sucking side and back passing and get back to playing football the Glasgow Celtic way.

With our resources we should make entertaining football a priority.

Restore faith with the fans and give them something to cheer. The alternative on winter days is sold out games with thousands of empty seats.

    You know it makes sense.

HH, COYBIG the Glasgow Celtic way.

  7. Good morning from a very chilly North Staffs.

Nothing wrong with a bit of schadenfreude but it takes the focus from our own shortcomings.

    Onwards to Sunday in Perth.

  8. From BBC Scotland football gossip this morning

Rangers’ search for a new director of football could put manager Philippe Clement’s plan to add a left-back and striker during the January transfer window on hold (Football Insider)

Yes that will be the reason right enough. No money? Absolutely not, those pesky Directors of Football are to blame!

  10. This talk about how Sevco are not a good team,we said that when Lennon was the coach ,some of the signings we made then were deplorable,I learnt a long time ago not to get to complacent.

  11. Just watched the him highlights from last night. My word they are poor. Their players don’t look like they can play basic football. Even their star man Danilo can’t control the ball.

The first comment on the YouTube video is this:

Got to be embarrassing, failing to beat that lot.

    But Limassol will bounce back.

    😂😂😂 Brilliant!

  12. And another from the YouTube comments section:

Could have been a different result if Limassol had fielded their first team players, but the Xmas overtime at Aldi was too good to turn down.

    😂😂😂👍

  13. Hope Dallas et al at UEAFA have not tipped the Forces of darkness the wink about where to Chanel their energies …potentially 3 “ favourable “ draws away from another European final !?🤔…Paranoid ..not feckin paranoid enough with that lot of cheating sleekit bassas

  14. It’s a bit of a weird one, the ole Schadenfrowning…

All Wednesday, one team’s fans are gleefully deriding their green enemies getting mugged in Rome.

By Friday, the same blue mob are getting pelters as we pish wur pants at them getting wrecked by Cypriots.

Meanwhile, the rest of world football think; sheez thon Scotch league only creates mickey mouse winners.

I shared a few weeks ago, that Japan had set out a 100-year vision for their national side to win the World Cup.

Interesting to understand if our long term ambition had any proper Euro triumph – and design plan – etched into it.

Or mibby we’ll just continue to dance our lives away the Schadenfreude Ball?

    Let’s do better eh Celtic?

    Sevco new Lewis McLeod….

BADA, reading back from last night I saw your comment and thought “Lewis McLeaod? What the feck happened to THAT superstar?”

He went from ra Ranjurs to Brentford (four years, four goals), then Wigan (yes, Wigan!) for a year (0 goals) then Plymouth Arglye (he obviously really wanted to play in green shirts) for a year (0 goal). Then, fair play, he got a bad knee injury and has had to give up the game at age 29.

But our meeja never, ever learn. The fudd from from Norn Iron, may or may not be a good player eventually, but the meejs will drive him into a pit, ignoring his diving and his drivel in interviews (the one he gave before the Limassol game was utterly embarrassing, even for a Hun).

Re the PLC, I think I get how they’ve identified the limits of commercially viable ambition for a Scots club.

I think the Great Nihon have proved commercially and sportingly, there’s no limit to how high you may fly.

We seem stuck in being a product of a locally lucrative market with a yen (oops) for something grander; befitting a grander old team with something huge to play fer.

I too hope to see the Great Nihon lift the WC; if it takes them 100 years I’ll be delighted to still be around furrit.

  19. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Sports News Desks …. sometimes referred to as “the copy and paste division” ….

…. Have been fairly busy over the last week publicising a reported release clause of €40m for Jeremie Crimping which activates in summer 2024.

We’ve done this sketch before with Van Dijk (when it paid off) and Dembele (when it didn’t).

Absolutely no guarantees but, if it were to transpire …. and several clubs reportedly interested …..

…. by my fag packet arithmetic ….

Celtic could receive €8.1m for a 30% sell on clause on top of the original €13m sale.

  20. Also, if Sparta don’t beat Aris, the Huns are through regardless of their result against Betis. As they have the better head to head against Sparta. They drew 0-0 over there and beat them 2-1 at the Bigot Dome.

They’re also guaranteed European football after Xmas, which is a good thing, as I don’t think they have the squad for it.

Unless we mess up big time and/or are blatantly cheated by the mibs for the remainder of this season. We should win this league. 😃👍🍀🇮🇪⚽️🏆🏆

    AN TEARMANN @ 11:06 AM,

It is a follow on from a discussion we were having yesterday afternoon

Basically, the PLC have said our aim is for UCL football and we intend to be an elite Club

However the Board’s expectation management is we’d be better off in the Europa League

They don’t improve the team from the money we get from UCL participation, rather they buy a load of prospects in anticipation of making a fast buck from a few.

So do you go by the words, or go by the actions!?
