Inverness panic instead of asking for support

447

There has been an enormous amount of guff said and written during the last five months but last night’s statement by Inverness Caledonian Thistle chairman, Kenny Cameron, is surely is up there with the most bizarre.

“All clubs will now have to live with the repercussions of this decision. Scottish football was at a cross roads today in terms of what was on the table for all clubs regarding reorganisation, financial distribution and a road map that would have taken the game forward.

“But this has now been thrown in to disarray by this decision. This is a sad day for all clubs in Scotland.

“Certain clubs in the SFL have perceived the financial information they were receiving as a ‘big stick’ to beat them into accepting Newco in the First Division. This was definitely not the case, as far as I am concerned. What they were being told was the reality of the situation.

“We will be convening an emergency board meeting over the weekend to discuss the very serious financial implications for us as a club going forward.”

Instead of explaining to the people of Inverness that buying season tickets will prevent the club making non-football staff redundant he seems to be preparing the ground for significant cutbacks.

This is the reality for every club in the SPL and several in the SFL.  Fans, including Inverness fans, demanded that a sporting element was retained in their game.  Now they’ve gotten their way, Inverness and the rest should be putting out the clarion call for fans to buy tickets.

As football fans, this is our responsibility.  35 out of 42 clubs voted to reject Sevco into anything other than the bottom level of Scottish football.  Now we must step forward.

P.S. You don’t really need me to tell you, but buy a season ticket now!

Bhun supporter tells me one of his friends, “a VERY good accountant”, showed him what Clubs could lose because of ranker’s demise …..

I wondered, if he was THAT good an accountant, why he didn’t highlight what they had been up to for 20+ years…..and….pity he didn’t get himself a job at grey skull ……..end of that conversation……LLLLOOOOLLLL

    67 heaven,

I think all avenues should be explored, but given the success, or lack of, of our digital media strategy to date, I don’t see Celtic being able to carry off any meaningful and profitable version of their own TV channel .

( for clarity, my criticism of their media strategy is based around key indicators such as the relatively low twitter followers, and the way that sites like this one have produced e-magazines which significantly outshine any official productions)

    Dino,

I have often wondered if , perhaps the SPL should simply give away the broadcasting rights , and look at them as an advertising media.

For example, if we gave the rights to the BBC (national) on the basis that they screened 1 game / month on BBC1 national TV, plus other games on BBC3 and showed highlights, every week on BBC1 , could the clubs then make more cash via stadium advertising , shirt sponsorship etc ?

Last year, one of the f1 teams tried something like this, where they gave away the principal team name rights to a credible company, and used this to get more cash out of the medium sponsors who came on board because of the ‘anchor sponsor’.

Well – it all seems to be coming to a head.

Can we assume that Donkey will be gone this time next week and that the process to get rid of Regan will have started.

How to get rid of Ogilvie? Maybe we need to wait for the legal cases in the coming months, but if anyone is compromised enough in this shameful debacle to effectively be on gardening leave then it says to me that fact alone is circumstantial enough for dismissal. How much does CO make per year at the the SFA for making the sounds of silence during Scottish footballs darkest hour? Honestly, its beyond parody…

  7. Tim Malone Will Tell on

Incidentally – I reckon that only two men in football have the experience and credentials to take us forward.

We should be looking towards Gordon Smith to run the SPL and ask Walter to step into the breach at the SFA. That will work….

“That Hearts, and other club, statements say it all……….usual MSM crap just to sell papers…..they have no conscience at all, and have been a major contributing factor the the bhun demise ( God, that sounds good …… LOL”

It is desperate stuff from the MSM. The tabloids in particular are in for a tough time now that Sevco have failed in their bold attempts to avoid the traditional route for new football clubs. Their proposed fan base normally favour more traditional routes as well…

But it will be hard for the daily papers to maintain current staffing levels in their sports departments now that one of Scotland’s biggest clubs no longer exists.

Their circulation figures are dropping at alarming rates as things stand, and people who supported the Huns don’t want to read bad news stories about their disgraced club. There is no justification for blanket coverage of Third Division football – especially when the new club is unlikely to play in front of a couple of thousand people at best … and that’s if they play at all.

If Doncaster & Regan are so out of touch with the chairmen of the SPL clubs that they push hard for something that the Chairmen rejected, then they deserve what comes their way.

They are not alone though, & to quote Narrowboat Tim, we have a series of unknown unknowns here.

Interesting thinking again Ccb and one possibly worth investigating. It would obviously depend on viewership numbers but it could possibly work.

My main beef is that the current deal is seriously undervalued and the men responsible for this should be answerable. Another problem with more or less giving away the rights to SS for the terms of the current deal is if someone gets something for nothing they don’t value it and therefore SS are not liable to advertise the product or put it on prime time tv either. If they paid more for it there would be more games on prime slots and therefore SPL clubs could increase advertising revenue and also the SPL itself could attract bigger sponsorship deals allowing for more money for league placings and parachute payments for clubs that get relegated.

I do really believe though that the revenue should be split a lot more evenly between the clubs also. This should be TV revenue only not gate money as this model has shown to work down sarf. It would mean Celtic getting less in the short term but as the product improves so should TV revenue and sponsorship revenue which would leave Celtic better off long term.

Different topic, but wanted to speak about it, there was a show called “The 20 Transfers That Shook The World” on itv4….firstly i hate the overblown titles that they have to make up to try and attract viewers, i found this programme half way through, was trying to think of one genuine transfer that “shook the world” and drew a blank. Anyway, the next bit started, and it was mojo

Now the reason i mention this, is because the broadcast opinion over the years is that he was the first catholic in 18 million yrs to sign for an anti catholic team…..which in turn annoyed supporters from both sides

There are very intelligent people running clubs in Scottish football.

The problem is that they are not in charge of the game overall.

We overlooked, tbh, the fact that the smaller clubs-who were entitled to vote-were not run by the local blazers, but by local people who were doing it on a part-time basis while being successful in their own right.

Imagine the pressure of operating your own business,PLUS the local community club, and still turning a profit!

I think I might not have been the only person to have overlooked the fact that many of those smaller teams have big hitters in business amongst them.

And I am very grateful that the chairmen without that background voted with steel, strength and morals too.

It’s not about integrity, nor that word that the huns managed, disgracefully,to steal from the dictionary and virtually make their own.

    Dignity,pwaah.

    Geezabrek.

It’s about doing what they KNEW was right, and had to be done.

And clenching their balls as they did it,because they can see what is coming.

    Brave men,every one.
