Inverness panic instead of asking for support

447

There has been an enormous amount of guff said and written during the last five months but last night’s statement by Inverness Caledonian Thistle chairman, Kenny Cameron, is surely is up there with the most bizarre.

“All clubs will now have to live with the repercussions of this decision. Scottish football was at a cross roads today in terms of what was on the table for all clubs regarding reorganisation, financial distribution and a road map that would have taken the game forward.

“But this has now been thrown in to disarray by this decision. This is a sad day for all clubs in Scotland.

“Certain clubs in the SFL have perceived the financial information they were receiving as a ‘big stick’ to beat them into accepting Newco in the First Division. This was definitely not the case, as far as I am concerned. What they were being told was the reality of the situation.

“We will be convening an emergency board meeting over the weekend to discuss the very serious financial implications for us as a club going forward.”

Instead of explaining to the people of Inverness that buying season tickets will prevent the club making non-football staff redundant he seems to be preparing the ground for significant cutbacks.

This is the reality for every club in the SPL and several in the SFL.  Fans, including Inverness fans, demanded that a sporting element was retained in their game.  Now they’ve gotten their way, Inverness and the rest should be putting out the clarion call for fans to buy tickets.

As football fans, this is our responsibility.  35 out of 42 clubs voted to reject Sevco into anything other than the bottom level of Scottish football.  Now we must step forward.

P.S. You don’t really need me to tell you, but buy a season ticket now!

Two things. First, I think what Tommo and others are suggesting is that on Monday the SPL might be asked to reconsider SPL membership for Sevco, illigitimate son of Satan FC, not another SFL attempt.

Second, re the area outside the stadium. The council have allocated a large sum (a local publican told me) for homes and businesses around there (as far ay as Springfield Road, I think) to dress up their buildings, windows and so on before the Commonwealth Games. I think that others on here have stated that Celtic have plans to upgrade the Celtic Triangle which have been approved and budgeted for, so that ought to happen in the same timescale, I think.

Thanks for that info. I’m guessing in a 2 year timescale we will see a few changes in the coming months then. The new road adjacent to the stadium onto the M74 is quite good too, remains to be seen on matchdays though lol

They have shown they do not give a monkeys about Scottish football, but only about themselves.

If Scottish Football is wrecked by upholding sporting merit the SFA should be asking UEFA for assistance from the UEFA Solidarity Fund. It has an excellent case to make and there is no reason whatsoever, apart from saving Sevco, why they should not at least make an emergency application, even if only to expose UEFA hypocrisy.

    1. So, in the 3rd Division games against the s***e diddy teams, this is what happens. At half-time, every one of us goes to buy a pie. Or goes to the toilet. Or something like that. And we don’t come back until the second half starts. People will see the empty stands and know it’s a big statement about the future of Scottish football. We will maybe get reinstated back into the SPL with immediate effect. The bigwigs will panic.

The scare stories are not to stop an SFL3 start, they are to prepare the ground for restructuring next year.

In the coming months a number of unknowns will come out that could alter the current mood and make what is unacceptable now more acceptable.

If the SPL/SFA have any brains (I know) they will accept where we now are, pursue the remaining issues about Rangers, and let Sevco get on with earning sporting merit as we have no evidence as yet they are better than fellow SFL3 teams.

It has been the indecent haste to bury Rangers without a post mortem and remarry Sevco with no period of reflection or lesson learning that has been the SPL/SFAs undoing.

    From Sky Text:

Hearts managing director David Southern insists there is no chance of newco Rangers getting voted into a restructured second tier when Scottish Premier League clubs meet on Monday.

Various media reports have claimed that the possibility of overturning the previous rejection of the Ibrox club would be discussed at the league’s annual general meeting.

But with 10 SPL clubs having already rejected the newco in the top flight and 25 of the 30 Scottish Football League clubs voting for the Ibrox team to start in the Third Division next season, Southern reckons there is no point in returning to the subject.

“Anything’s possible for discussion but certainly nothing has been mentioned to us as a club that that is on the agenda for discussion,” Southern said.

“We think it would be a very, very short discussion indeed. We certainly do not plan to go over any old ground.

“The most important thing for Scottish football now is that we move on. We are focused on the new season. Rangers, as has been elected, will play in Division Three.

“That’s how it stands at the moment and that’s how we fully expect it to stand at five o’clock on Monday evening.”

  23. Joe Filippis Haircut on

It appears Inverness and St.Mirren are now paniking because they voted no to newco in the SPL the reason they voted that way it would appear that they were assured that newco would be starting in Div.1.

  24. Reading about who the huns opposition will be in the Third. Average attendance in the League is 400.

WHY do we dilute the little money we have in the game supporting these pash teams.

If they want to reform the game in this country then amalgamate these teams or let them go and play amateur football.

Two leagues of 14 and that is it.

Call for ‘no confidence’ in Stewart Regan in wake of Rangers vote

    By Brian McLauchlin

BBC Scotland A vote of no confidence in Scottish FA chief executive Stewart Regan was proposed and seconded after Rangers were voted into Division Three.

However, Scottish Football League president Jim Ballantyne felt the meeting of member clubs was not the platform for the issue to be discussed.

Regan wanted Rangers in Division One to protect Scottish Football finances.

But SFL clubs voted 25-5 in favour of Rangers entering the bottom tier of the senior football league set-up.

Rangers, who have been relaunched as a new company after the previous incarnation could not be saved from liquidation, had their bid to replace the old Ibrox club in the Scottish Premier League overwhelmingly rejected.

    Rangers crisis explained

•Rangers went into administration owing up to £134m to unsecured creditors and will eventually be liquidated.

The “newco” in turn applied to join the SFL and said they would enter whichever division the organisation deemed fit.

Regan believed the best way to protect commercial interests for all senior Scottish clubs would be for Rangers to start season 2012-13 in the league immediately below the SPL but Friday’s SFL vote determined that a Division Three entry was the only option available.

Meanwhile, Hearts managing director David Southern has played down suggestions that the SPL could overturn their decision to reject the Rangers newco’s application to replace the old club.

SFL club representatives and media reports suggested attempts would be made to give Rangers a top flight reprieve after Friday’s vote meant they will not feature in the SPL for at least three years.

The SPL hold their AGM on Monday.

“Nothing has been mentioned to us as a club that that is on the agenda for discussion,” Southern told BBC Radio Scotland’s Sportsound programme.

“We think it would be a very, very short discussion indeed.

“Rangers, as has been elected, will play in Division Three. That’s how it stands at the moment, that’s how we fully expect it to stand at 17:00 BST on Monday.”

When asked if he expected an SPL2 to be discussed, Southern added: “It’s certainly not been mentioned to us and, again, it’s not particularly something we would be looking to entertain.”

  26. jude2005 is Neil Lennon \o/ on

I know most of the Coatbridge Shamrock Acc. band and best mates with 3 of the Bhoys and I have never hrd them mention that there was a problem playing at C P.

  27. Paul, I am mystified at the reaction from Inverness and St Mirren. What did they expect? They voted to have the new club NOT in the spl. Now they are shocked (and seemingly unable to deal with the consequences) regarding the prospect of the new club not being in Div 1.

They must surely have been led to believe that this was a done deal. However, given that SFL clubs were showing their hands in the days leading up to the vote, how could SPL clubs possibly be ‘shocked’ and unable to deal with the perceived ‘consequences’.

    Doesn’t add up……….

  28. That’ll teach ICT and St Mirren a lesson in basing their whole club around a couple games against Rangers. I know some have given our board pelters for not speaking up but when you see these hypocritical muppets making an absolute arse of themselves i can’t believe we would have been so stupid to be party to such a plan.

And Sevco and the SPL can GTF if they think we’ll allow them back into the SPL.
