Inverness panic instead of asking for support

447

There has been an enormous amount of guff said and written during the last five months but last night’s statement by Inverness Caledonian Thistle chairman, Kenny Cameron, is surely is up there with the most bizarre.

“All clubs will now have to live with the repercussions of this decision. Scottish football was at a cross roads today in terms of what was on the table for all clubs regarding reorganisation, financial distribution and a road map that would have taken the game forward.

“But this has now been thrown in to disarray by this decision. This is a sad day for all clubs in Scotland.

“Certain clubs in the SFL have perceived the financial information they were receiving as a ‘big stick’ to beat them into accepting Newco in the First Division. This was definitely not the case, as far as I am concerned. What they were being told was the reality of the situation.

“We will be convening an emergency board meeting over the weekend to discuss the very serious financial implications for us as a club going forward.”

Instead of explaining to the people of Inverness that buying season tickets will prevent the club making non-football staff redundant he seems to be preparing the ground for significant cutbacks.

This is the reality for every club in the SPL and several in the SFL.  Fans, including Inverness fans, demanded that a sporting element was retained in their game.  Now they’ve gotten their way, Inverness and the rest should be putting out the clarion call for fans to buy tickets.

As football fans, this is our responsibility.  35 out of 42 clubs voted to reject Sevco into anything other than the bottom level of Scottish football.  Now we must step forward.

P.S. You don’t really need me to tell you, but buy a season ticket now!

Why are the 35 clubs who voted against this newco not now calling for the proposers of these ridiculous plans to accommodate the cheats to go. Regan Doncaster and I’m sure Ogilivie in his administrative role must be sacked now.

I’m sure the fans have already responded and renewed their tickets and will continue to do so.

Personally I have a huge deal of optimism about this season. The arms race is over. I want to see a string of talented home grown players come thru the ranks, playing the Celtic way and enjoying their football. I’ve had a lot of faith restored in recent days and weeks by the actions of our fellow clubs. The future is bright, the future is not orange.

    Clyde View on SFL Meeting

    Fri, 13th Jul 2012 10:19pm

The club chairman attended a very sobering meeting of the SFL today where the 30 clubs voted on resolutions in the manner that they felt were, on balance, for the good of the game. Nobody had arrived at decisions easily and all had been placed in intolerable positions of having to decide without the basic information that would reflect good governance and having to speculate about unresolved matters around sanctions and membership of the SFA that other bodies had so far failed to deal with.

The outcome was never going to be a good one, but it was one of significant unity amongst the clubs. Even where clubs voted differently, it was not a divisive difference of views, everyone understood the complex mix of circumstances facing each club would never deliver unanimity of voting.

We reported this morning prior to the vote of all clubs that “Sevco Scotland Ltd will not be playing in the Third Division in the coming season.” Nothing heard today altered that opinion, in fact, it strengthened it.

For the good of the game we need to see the SFA accept the will of its members, who all voted today, as members of the SFL, in the clear knowledge that the SFA had it in its power to refuse to transfer SFA membership to Sevco Scotland Ltd should the vote support the entry of Sevco Scotland Ltd into SFL3.

We were asked to respect the confidentiality of those presenting today as only that agreement would allow them to be as candid as they were. We cannot therefore share what was said, however Mr Green left the SFL member clubs in no doubt about what he had been told by the SFA.

The SFL saw a level of unity and unselfishness that owes significant credit to the First Division clubs who stated their intention to seek a 42 club solution and not to take part in a divisive alternative. This kind of unity, if maintained, will help deliver the change that the game so badly needs and the First Division clubs in particular will merit.

If the SFA now act to support any process to undermine the clear views of the SFL members, who are also members of the SFA, then this club will join others in questioning those in leadership.

Sadly for our game, this saga is not over, teams cannot plan and that includes Rangers, who may yet be denied the opportunity to play football in SFL3 because it suits the interests of others.

McLeish is another apologist. Here is a man who was paid to produce a report on Scottish football, took years to do it and singularly failed to spot the elephant in the room. Earlier this year, during a “debate” on Radio 5, (alongside fellow cheerleader Roddy Forsyth) McLeish made the statement that “Rangers were too important to fail.” Too important! A club which has cheated Scottish football for over twenty years, failed to pay its taxes, its creditors and its fellow football clubs is too important to fail. McLeish had a plan to save Scottish football alright, saving Rangers. The man has no credibility whatsoever, yet another failed apparatchik, who in his own hour of darkness, is hoping and praying, that someone will offer him a job. Unemployable.

  18. Think we ought to highlight that Clyde have made three excellent staatements re Sevco. They also deserve plaudits for their avowed intention to challenge the SFA leadership – take note, CO – should that body seek to undermine the decisions taken by the SFL yesterday.

I hope that our club will be joined by others in adopting a similar stance on Monday, should the need arise.

    Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC has

    completed their consultation exercise and

consideration of its options in relation to

the upcoming SPL vote on July 4.

The club will be voting ‘no’ to an application

for SPL entry from a new company which

has acquired the assets of Rangers

following the liquidation of the previous

company. Having considered all the options

and following a very productive discussion

with the Supporters Trust Board members the ICTFC directors are unanimous

    in their decision.

Club chairman Kenny Cameron said: ”The past few weeks have been extremely

hectic in terms of our supporters and season ticket holders making their views

known in great numbers to the club, as is their right. It is fair to say that in

excess of 95 per cent of them raised the issue of sporting integrity as the

reason why they don’t want the newco to be admitted and had not yet renewed

    their season tickets.

“Financially, we examined the various scenarios and, frankly, none of them

were positive for our club, it is extremely disappointing to be adversely

affected by something not of our doing, unfortunately this is a similar

situation for the rest of the clubs in SPL.

“We have also been contacted by supporters of various other SPL clubs, saying

they would not be back to Inverness if we did not accept that sporting

integrity was what mattered, but this is something that we had already

considered and it is not only the integrity of the SPL that is at stake but the

    integrity of Scottish football.

“It is quite clear, that supporter opinion in Scotland overwhelming supports

that view. Supporters are the life blood of any club and we would have been

foolish not take on board their opinions on this matter, they are our

customers and any business that ignores the views of it customers does so at

    its peril”

Mr Cameron added: ”A substantial amount of our own fans have withheld from

buying their season tickets, saying they will not do so if we vote for a newco

to re-enter directly in to the SPL. In now making clear how we will vote, we

expect these fans to come forward fairly quickly and renew their season

tickets and give Caley Thistle the financial injection it requires for the

    2012-13 campaign.

“We are hoping that all the ICT fans will now rally round and buy extra season

tickets to cushion the blow of the potential loss in revenues from elsewhere.

“We have listened to all our customers and taken the decision and we now look

forward to their support going forward.

“Our sympathies go to the many small businesses in and around Glasgow who

have or will suffer through no fault of their own and the Rangers supporters

who are not to blame for their club’s difficulties but have also found

themselves out of pocket through the actions of others.

“WE WOULD BE IN A COMPLETELY UNTENABLE ,FINANCIALLY AND MORALLY, IF WE

DEFIED THE OVERWHELMING DEMAND OF OUR OWN PAYING CUSTOMERS WHO ARE, AFTER ALL, WHAT CALEY THISTLE ARE ALL ABOUT.”

  20. Simply too many diddy teams in Scotland. Inverness need to start looking around at their closest neighbours and consider merging. Can the Inverness region support 2 top flight teams? There’s 4 or 5 in the Stirling/Falkirk region for god’s sakes. New rivalries will spring up through time.

14/07/2012 – Annan Athletic FC Statement

    13th July 2012

Recent months have been very testing and trying for all associated with the game, all 30 SFL Clubs were represented at Hampden today and collectively the SFL dealt with the issues that through no fault of our own had firmly landed on our doorstep, it was our duty to look at all options, in reaching our decision we acted with fairness and diligence. Annan Athletic FC voted Yes to accept Rangers application into the SFL, we voted No to Resolution 2 (to explain a no vote was saying no to Rangers being placed in Div 1 with the reform package known as Head of terms and yes to Rangers being placed in Div 3), we voted yes to resolution 3 that will enable Dundee or Dunfermline heading to the SPL when invited.

Annan Athletic believed there was indeed only one acceptable option albeit not the one we felt we were being ‘guided’ towards, we fully accept that consequently Scottish Football is facing significant challenges, especially those of a financial nature, there will be a shrinking football economy but both options would have had similar results. As a club we are also committed to addressing the need for change, the presentation document, ‘ Our Future….Our Club….Our Game’ highlights many aspects of our game that could be changed and we look forward to being part of the consultation process in a true collaborative manner as indicated in the Head of Terms but more importantly one which is free from threat and bullying.

The SPL are now due to meet on Monday where the first steps of shift in governance should take place with removal of the 11-1 vote. Like many other clubs we are suspicious that the SFL’s decision to place Rangers in Div 3 may not be final, the SPL could easily counter such fears by inviting Dundee or Dunfermline into the SPL to take the compliment of teams to the minimum number in accord with the legally binding Settlement Agreement. We were delighted to hear the unanimous response from all ten 1st Division clubs who stated that they are only interested in a 42 club resolution (for any CEO’s or others who are unsure what that means, bluntly it is stick SPL2 where the sun don’t shine and do not even attempt to pull a 16 team stunt move, another scenario that wouldn’t astonish us is for Rangers to be invited back into the SPL – to think we were threatened with Armageddon! We do however have faith that the SPL chairmen, the guys that matter, will invite Dundee or Dunfermline into the SPL and through all our combined efforts we will see a 42 team resolution to restructuring and the many other changes we all wish to see happening.

It is worth noting that all 42 clubs in the SPL and SFL are members of the SFA along with all our other fellow members from the various associations are the country. Today at Hampden 30 of these members clubs made a decision based on sporting fairness which as our CEO, David Longmuir, reminds us is the fundamental principle of the Scottish Football League. A week or so ago the SPL clubs also based their decision on the same principle.

Assuming the SPL do the right thing on Monday there is only one final element to be determined, the action to be taken by the SFA who still have to conclude the transfer of SFA membership from Oldco to Newco and complete the 2nd Tier Appellate Tribunal, that would appear to be straight forward as from what we heard yesterday Rangers are more than willing to take on board what is being suggested to them. We cannot share what was said yesterday as we respected the confidentiality of the discussion, Charles Green and Ally McCoist could only be as candid as they were under such agreement. The SFL clubs showed considerable strength, conviction and unity to reach their decisions, we now expect the SFA to support the decision of their member clubs, member clubs who through no fault of their own had the problem thrust upon us.

Annan Athletics’ stance is once again clear, we expect the SFA to quickly close matters out and let us get on with the game, our season starts in two weeks time. The SFL voted our newest member into our league today but they still have not got the surety that they will even be playing football next season.

Despite the prediction of slow lingering deaths or Armageddon, Scottish Football has an opportunity to address so much, what is wrong with clubs cutting their cloth accordingly – it is fundamental and sets solid foundations which deliver sustainability, the opportunity to develop home grown talent will become a necessity, the Club Academy Scotland programme will be accelerated, the correction will be painful but clubs will eventually be able to demonstrate a much healthier and stable financial position, rules can be introduced to deal with insolvency (it should be an easy one – same as Gretna, Livi and Rangers), amalgamation of the leagues, governance of our game, the list is endless. We believe that the game in Scotland can come out of this clean; our game is big enough that these decisions merit consideration, debate and implementation free from an environment that removes a gun from our head. Today was a significant day in Scottish Football, the correct decision was made, and we now need everyone to move on.

Today the stakeholders of the game voices were heard, without fans we have no game, we survived before SKY. Greed, imbalance of governance, etc etc etc has finally caught up with our game. We have a chance to rebuild our game, we need the fans to be good to their word, even if you can’t make a game fans can influence the financial situation. We have seen the keyboard warriors come to the fore, from every corner of the world, well guys support your team, support Scottish Football, it’s easy, sponsor a player, sponsor a match ball, clubs can be innovative as they like ( Annan Athletic are creating a Scroll of Fame that will be proudly displayed in our club, it will be dated 13th July 2012 and will reflect today’s watershed decision, we don’t know how many people might wish their names added to the scroll but it will be our memory of the day we changed the face of Scottish football) – we will all need to be innovative as we rebuild our game, fans can play their part, come up with ideas like never before. This whole episode has proven one thing that we at Annan know from a personal viewpoint. We are involved in football because we love our game, we care for our game, we love our clubs, football is in our blood, football is our culture and for many of us it is our life.

We would like to thank everyone for all the texts and e-mails, we have a tough time ahead but together our game will come out of this stronger and in a much better place.
