Is it any wonder Celtic fans worry about contagion?

639

Not only are Newco left without an auditor, a Nomad and therefore a market listing, outgoing auditors Deloitte, wrote to the club last month to explain they were resigning due to threatening and intimidating messages received by their staff from anonymous persons during 2013 and 2014 in relation to their work with the club.

The toxicity of that football club is difficult to overstate.  Is it any wonder Celtic fans are clear: the ‘Old Firm’ died in 2012?  Any attempts to rekindle it will result in contagion for our own club, who maybe smaller going forward without the ‘Old Firm’ dividend, but it will be healthier nonetheless.

I’ll take 40,000 crowds and winning the next 30 titles in a canter, bring it on.

TWO police officers are facing a perjury probe after giving evidence at a trial of a football fan acquitted of being involved in an incident before a game.

The chief inspector and sergeant gave evidence against Scott Johnston for his alleged role in a breach of the peace on Glasgow’s Gallowgate in March 2013.

During the notorious incident, police kettled a number of Celtic fans.

One of the officers – who was a witness for the prosecution – was given a warning by the sheriff about incriminating himself.

Both witnesses were made the subject of a complaint to the Crown Office by a member of the public, sparking the investigation by the Police Investigations and Review Commisioner (PIRC).

It has been confirmed that a perjury investigation is now underway.

A PIRC spokesman said: “The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service have directed the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner to carry out an independent investigation into allegations that a police officer has committed an offence.”

Always like to put a face to a name, though I sort of grew up knowing macjay, but I get confused when some in isolation decline a beer, after all, we’re all Celtic Supporters.

  3. Corkcelt spot on m8 but our right corner back side well open looks like 15 v 14 shape lost ! Hope Brian Cuthbert gets it sorted before Gooch Cooper comes on !!!!!

Re avoiding joint sponsorship deals – it is actually very difficult.

I know for a fact that Celtic have in the last decade or so put together prima facie solus marketing deals only for the partner to jump in at last minute and introduce an unwelcome toxic third party.

It is hard to avoid and I should know. E-Lites the trail blazing electronic cigarette company and recently CBI’s UK Business of the Year wanted some football exposure and were talking to Villa, Everton, Liverpool and others.

I put together a deal for them with Celtic and my only consideration for dong so was that it was a Celtic only deal. E-Lites was founded by some friends of mine who put £7k each into the project and their early marketing consisted of ads on CQN!

All was agreed. Celtic got a great sponsorship deal with really good money. E-Lites got the associated benefits they were looking for in a hugely impressive growth curve then on the night Joe Ledley played his last match for Celtic I found out that at a lower level than the owners, a decision was reached to put some money into the new co.

Apparently they found staff moral low and the operation amateurish in comparison to the ultra professional Celtic.

I voiced my disquiet but merely got an apology. E-Lites not long after sold out to Japanese Tobacco in a deal reportedly worth seventy times the amount of our rejected bid for the Dundee United striker.

The new owners cancelled the desk with Celtic and the new club.

How about a couple of framed copies of above for PL who can’t get THEM back quick enough and DD who apparently thinks of THEM as a great club with a wonderful history.

Wonder why Deloitte did not involve police in alleged threats to its staff.?

  9. Rascar Capac/BGFC: condolences to you both.

Cowiebhoy: I replied to you last night around 9pm, I don’t know if you saw it. Dublin2016 will be weekend of 26/27 March, Easter weekend.

  10. Terrible decision Toffee. We have nae luck ever against Kerry. Proud of the performance though , much better then I expected.

I agree entirely re your leader, I’ve never been comfortable having any links to the dark side of Glasgow football, they’re happy to liquidate shedding £100 mill odd of debt then claim they’re the same club whilst laughing up their (sports direct owned) sleeves.

Celtic should have dropped them long before now.

If you really think so, you are wide of the mark. PL and DD are not willing to give them a helping hand. They have put Celtic in a position of dominance and intend to keep it that way.

Nah! not Macjay, we grew up living in the same street. I’ve had beers with him in Sydney and Brisbane when the Celtic were over, can’t remember if he made it over to Perth and for family/work reasons I couldn’t get down to Melbourne. There is a standing invitation for him to come and stay at my house any time he is in Brisbane and he has often reciprocated in kind.

I was more opining that I’ll go out of my way to catch a fellow Tim for a beer, especially so when you find yourself in a place that doesn’t particularly abound with them.A friendly face in a foreign place is one of life’s wee blessings.

  16. Kerry look like there moving into gear !

Always in awe of these guys – tougher than teak

I came off bike last Saturday 30km p/hour with 3 of us down. Broken shoulder blade and ribs helicopter sent out but cannot get in for trees. They sent a ‘polaris’ jeep alomg the track it’s like wee banana bunch type buggy to move me to ambulance. Lochwinnoch to RAH 3 almost hours later.

Couldn’t move from hospital bed for almost 2 days.

These guys! just get up rub the shoulder quick swig of juice, spin the front wheel then jump back on bike for another 100km

Totally in awe – guts, courage, desire and slightly mental

I’ll be back in about 8-12 weeks…total woosssssssss!!

  19. Cifci has put the ball back into United’s court. He wants to come to us and has a year left on his contract. They either sell to us at our price or he signs a pre-contract in January. I’d prefer to have him now.

As for Samaras, I would consider it if I were Celtic. Once again, only on our terms. Short-term deal on an incentive driven contract.

Not seen Celtic linked with anybody but Cifci right now. Though I doubt he is the only target on the cards.

John McGinn has been linked with Hibs, Hearts and Wigan. I’d like to see him sign for us. I don’t see why we would sign McGeouch to another year instead of McGinn.

DD first. Has he ever refuted his alleged views on THEIR stature as a great club with a wonderful history?

Why wouldn’t PL as our CE not want back an organisation whose absence is supposedly costing us millions?

  24. DONT BELIEVE IT !!

Seconds left Kerry knock it over for a replay !

    FT

    Kerry 2-15. Cork 3-12

Great Rebels performance but fair play never count out the Kingdom.

What people say publicly doesn’t necessarily represent their private views

Remember the country Celtic operate out of. Celtic gain nothing from publicly “having a go” at them. If we put out a statement distancing us from the Old Firm, the monkeys at the DR and the Sun will still print it.

It would cause the club grief it doesn’t need. Celtic just need to look after themselves. Sevco are doing a great job of tearing themselves apart.
