Jeopardy of international travel

252

While we are all feeling confident ahead of the title run-in, things can change quickly, especially with a monitored infectious disease spreading through society.  In little over a week we go to Ibrox, where our hosts are already fretting over the absence of a player who tested positive after flying to Zambia on international duty.

Travel through international airports, on connecting coaches and flights, brings a jeopardy until domestic travel.  With so many players away on international duty and set to return in the days before going to Ibrox, we face a lottery.  There is nothing Celtic can do about this and little the players can do.  It will be a tense few days when they arrive back at Lennoxtown.

At the last game their players had nowhere to go – at any point – before during and after the game – they were surrounded by Celtic supporters, and they looked petrified.

I respect your point and you provide the above example to back it up.

However just the other day Tom McLaughlin made a case which illustrated the ‘other side of the coin’ – that being should we get a result at Ibrox, it would be a quick sprint down the tunnel, running a gauntlet of hate, at the end of the match…..whereas with our quota in place we celibrate and, as TM says, “rub it in”

  5. Iraq take 1-0 lead over UAR. If this holds, they could technically qualify to play Oz if UAR lose at home to S. Korea, and Iraq win in Syria ( or wherever they play this game ).

Just a wee addendum. Top players and managers don’t get “petrified”, nor, do they feel “under pressure”. With the kind of money they earn, pressure is like whiplash…..it doesn’t exist!!!

  7. I wish Under Pressure had just been Queen musicians(including Freddie on piano) and Bowie on vocals

    Tin hat on

No “tin hat” needed, although I prefer it as is. On the subject of music (so close to my heart) – I quit Spotify and signed up to Apple Music/TV – great Springsteen documentry ‘Letter to you” on TV – a magnificent & compulsive watch – seen it three times now. HH to THE BOSS.

Celtic beat Ajax 1-0 in front of 83,684 at Hampden in the European Cup quarter-final second leg on this day in 1971, but the damage had already been done in the 3-0 defeat in Amsterdam. Jimmy Johnstone scored the solitary goal in in the 28th minute, but Dutch football was on the rise. The previous May, Feyenoord pipped Celtic in the European Cup final and this Johan Cruyff-inspired Ajax side would go on to beat Ferenc Puskas’ Panathinaikos in the final at Wembley and then win the next two finals after that.

I remember ‘getting’ to this game as a 9 y.o.We had collapsed the last half hour in Amsterdam,Jock said if we get one back we can make a go of it,jinky gave us hope, but Ajax played us professionally, recall Cruyff thumping the post with a shot from bout 40 yards out.

They became a favourite of mine, playing football that has a timeline thro to today

AT, was at the game with my Dad. Quite a few missiles thrown down on our section. I was nearly 13. Aaah memories.

  11. Now the serious stuff is starting. I’m going to watch Wales-Austria as we could end up playing one of them. As it is, I can’t find the Scotland game except on Hesgoal.

Getting back to KevJungle’s Sceptical Citizen Parking his Bus and booting his Edward Nygma up his jacksie, I went to the trouble of reading his last post. Same as his first post on the topic from 2012.

It’s repetition to the point of obsession. I wonder what the percentage of CQN readers is that are on automatic scroll when they see any of the obvious monikers? My guess is that it is in the top 10 percentile. Kev, we read it, we understand it, we empathize, but It’s history now. It can’t be changed. You need to find another windmill to have a tilt at. Because no one is listening, or reading. The present situation can’t be good for your health. Go for a long walk in the fresh air, say “Sod them all”, and forget it.

  12. JHB Do the play all kinds of music and decades on Apple T V and could I ask how much per month please .

…..and just where are these top players and managers…..Ibrox?

Its fairly common knowledge that when their fans turn on them all of a sudden the ball becomes a hot potato – get rid asap – as a team they are OK – but nowhere near ‘top’.

  14. I went to the away game against Ajax with my brother. After the game we went in to central Amsterdam and sampled a few home made rollups in various bars and clubs

I`ll accept `petrified` if you mean in the literal sense but they don`t feel pressure? What makes you think that? Their high wages would soon become the norm for the players so I cannot go along with your view that money and pressure can`t co-exist.
