Great to see so many names from years ago back on the blog yesterday. As well as the jetsam and flotsam of life at Celtic, there have been times when the blog has had real value to the few, and occasionally, to the many. Once or twice, we’ve made a real difference to our club.
Our ability to add value correlates directly with the great contributions which appear here; sometimes when people offer remarkable insight, sometimes when many aggregate their thoughts to analyse an issue.
My guess is that there will be moments in the next decade when that insight and aggregation will be needed, so thanks to everyone who keeps the place sane through the flotsam days, before the biggies emerge. Thanks also for yesterday’s enormous support. The untold stories of acts of kindness and generosity from the community over the decade are so numerous they are no longer exceptional. It’s a great place to be a part of.
There are changes ahead. A new blog design is on the way and the Quick News section will retire this summer. Canajunbhoy has exclusively posted the section in the wee small hours for the best part of the decade, so he more than deserves peace to hang up his keyboard. My sincere thanks for all his help.
CQteN was an enormous success and built three school kitchens in Malawi for Mary’s Meals (photos from the last two are on the way). It was also enormous fun. We’re going to do it again, although I’m not sure yet if it has the legs to be an annual event/bi-annual or other. Open to ideas.

Syd N- i think the pricing is too high overall,i can afford £509/609 for me ST, it would not bother me if a parent /child gate for £20 on a home game, to get guys into support the team and hopefully future ST holders.I heard some complained when the club offered similar deals 2 seasons back, pathetic if you ask me.HH

Your right the Pubs rules @ Airports & red tape restrictions like not being allowed on an Aircraft if one is very merry & lack of atmosphere sometimes @ C.P. has not helped matters which has made it less of an enjoyable craic to shell out for.
Another way to look @ it once one add’s up the overall cost say 500 Euros for a round day trip to C.P. Including flight cost & spending money etc-etc it all add’s up to being a costly away day when one has the option of say watching most live fixtures via a Pub TV where one will spend less than say 100-200 Euros & have a good session with probably good food thrown in for good measure/a meal along with ones friends all for less than half the overall day-trip cost along with a good craic to be had by all & not far to travel either as opposed too shelling out 500 Euros for an okay day traveling day which mentally tires one out due to traveling time spent all takes it toll not just financially but tiredness as well comes into the equation like I’m bloody shattered after that long journey
Hi dena29, Nice to talk to ya. I have connections in Lurgan myself, I totally understand that times have changed and you can’t start belting out “Go Home British Soldiers” but in my opinion as you so nicely put it the intolerance of in our case Irish Celtic Supporters is extremely shortsighted. A few years ago it was like a small industry in Glasgow. Hotels, Pubs, Restaurants, Shops, Taxi Drivers even (God forgive some of our adolescent travellers), Strip Joints all benefited from the fortnightly influx. They are now all losing out big time as many Irish no longer feel welcome in Glasgow. I know quite a few lads who are now more interested in going over for an away game rather than going to Glasgow.
A big thank you to Paul and all of you guys who have contributed to this site.Over the years I have laughed, cried pondered and wondered at some of the issues raised.
Sometimes I think we lose site of how power full a ,medium that this site has become, with power comes responsibility and thankfully this site manages to maintain a sense of decorum and decency.There is a saying that the pen is mightiest than the sword but sadly the pen can sometimes do more damage than the sword I am sure you don’t need me to quote examples.This site cannot be accused of that.
I sympathised with people on this site who have lost loved ones and celebrated with others who have been blessed with the gift of new lives, all with people I have never met but feel like I kave known all my life.
I have been touched and inspired by some of the things that I have read on here and will take lot of those things to my grave.I have been in some dark places at times recently and this site has given me solace.
The one story that I think epitomises this site is of the wee man Oscar, a tragic but uplifting story.The bravery of Oscar and his family amazes me and the comments and work carried out on there behalf by people on this site and beyond is nothing short of a miracle.If I did not have this site I would have known nothing about it.
The work done on behalf of the multitude of charities is a credit to you all and it is a privilege to be able to post.This is a Celtic orientated site but it is much more than that.
More power to your pen Paul and to all contributors to this site it truly is a privilege to be part of it.

its a sign of the times in which we live that people take the easy option and stay to watch matches in the pub etc the club I travel with aim to make childrens tickets cheap and we all make a concerted effort to make a childs day a CP (especially if its their first) a very enjoyable one so as to encourage them back.
A Child Season Card is only £50 which came back in last Season & is still available this Season & will probably no doubt be an on-going matter.

Yep, for the money you pay, the matchday experience needs to be better. Perhaps a band playing before the game, a fan area outside, or maybe even some dancing girls (or boys of course ;-)).

listening to the debate on the many valid reasons for the decline in the travelling support from Ireland.
As a matter of interest ; Is this decline affecting all UK clubs, in particular Liverpool and Man Utd.?

Celtic Nation Football Club can confirm that official ownership of the club has passed to co-founder Stephen Skinner.
A busy week lies ahead which will include some immediate changes but it will remain business as usual as far as the every day running of the club is concerned.
Changes at the club will see manager Willie McStay, assistant manager Davie Farrell and their backroom team depart. All involved with Celtic Nation would like to thank the coaching staff for their time and effort at Gillford Park.
The club asks for patience but can assure supporters that Celtic Nation, both on and off the pitch, will continue to move forwards and aim for promotion.
No further comment will be made at this point. The Club thanks supporters for their patience and we look forward to seeing you at our season opener against Bishop Auckland on August 9.

Anthony Stokes is out of the second leg of Celtic’s Champions League second qualifier against KR Reykjavik at the BT Murrayfield Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Hoops striker missed out on the friendly against Dynamo Dresden in Germany at the weekend with a pulled muscle and while Kris Commons was substituted late in the first half with a thigh injury, manager Ronny Deila is confident he will be fit.
Teemu Pukki is likely to replace Stokes but Tony Watt is also in the squad as the Scottish champions look to build on their 1-0 lead from the first leg.
Provisional squad: Forster, Matthews, Lustig, Ambrose, Van Dijk, Izaguirre, Commons, Kayal, Biton, Boerrigter, Johansen, Mulgrew, McGregor, Griffiths, Pukki, Watt, Zaluska, Gordon, Henderson, O’Connell.
Not as badly Greenpinata. They have the advantage of ferrys from Dublin which make them cheaper to access, they also have a more or less guaranteed full house, Also the authorities are not as heavy handed with the traveling fans.

Bada bing I was in the jungle for that Hibs game innaw, never seen any bottle throwing but glad of the pitch invasion while the fog rolled in, we defo got lucky that night as Hibs were pumping us.

Aye, 1-1. There were actually only 7 minutes to go, and the game had been held up for people being on the pitch. I’d imagine the Hi-bees must’ve been raging that the game had to be replayed, as the game would’ve been completed without the pitch invasion. October 1975.

Subsequently I was wondering if we could have been more imaginative in our choice of venue for the Euro qualifier than playing at what is essentially a Rugby Ground.

I’d ditch sky in a heartbeat if i was getting celtic games direct from celtic – even just the away games.

I remember a raging John Blackley running up to the jungle and launching a two fingered salute to the cheering crowd.

Deila delights in Murrayfield pitch
Ronny Deila believes his Celtic side will have “no excuses” for failing to perform at the home of Scottish rugby in the second leg of their Champions League second qualifier against KR Reykjavik on Tuesday night.
The match is being played on a brand new pitch at the BT Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh as Parkhead is out of commission due its use in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The Hoops are 1-0 up from the first leg in Iceland and will face either Polish side Legia Warsaw or Irish outfit Patrick’s Athletic in the next qualifier if, as expected, they see off the Icelandic side.
After looking at the Murrayfield playing surface, a mixture of grass and artificial fibres, Deila gave it a ringing endorsement.
“It is fantastic,” said the Norwegian. “It is a very good pitch. I don’t think there will be any problem.
“The team will have the support and that is important and the pitch is perfect. So no excuses.”
Charlie Mulgrew, skipper in the first leg in the absence of Scott Brown, who is out long term with a hamstring injury, was equally praiseworthy of the new pitch.
He said: “If you are not going to play at your home stadium then this is just the perfect place.
“Everything is perfect about it, the pitch, everything, it will be fine.
“Preparations have been fine and everything has gone smoothly. It is just another place to play, and it is a great place.
“We hope to get as many fans as we can in. We all know what Celtic fans are like in the Champions League for us so hopefully we can get them behind us tomorrow night.”
I see sevco have a match in North America overnight
I think Victoria beckham would be a better match than Victoria highlanders but I wish them well and hope they their youngsters ( Boyd .. McCullough… Miller ) don’t overt stretch themselves

Great to hear RD and CM sounding so positive before the match about the venue and the playing surface.
Of course, we’d rather be playing at Celtic Park, but RD sounds determined not to let any negativity about that take root in the players.
