Judge King plan by those who father it

950

I’ve no affection for Real Madrid but was delighted for them, and Carlo Ancelotti in particular, last night.  It’s getting to the stage that it’s impossible to figure out who the best team in Europe actually is.

Bayern Munich’s season has been historic.  They swept aside German competitors with record-breaking ease on their way to what looked like them becoming the first team to retain Europe’s top crown in its Champions League format.  Real were irresistible.  Let’s hope for a Madrid final before the Lions in Lisbon next month.

After yesterday’s blog I heard that more journalistic allies from Anderston Quay have flocked to Dave King’s camp, including that Leggat (sp?) guy, who used to entertain many.

I’ve heard more theories as to what the Sevco board and the group trying to run their club into the ground are planning that I care to remember, but when you look at the team King in particular has pulled together, you would be forgiven for concluding there is no masterplan worthy of the name.

We can’t always judge a man by the company he keeps but we can just a strategy by those who fathered it.

Prediction: King will kill Sevco then fall on his arse.  Bump.

Here we Go for 10 In a Row!

Applications for the 10th annual CQN charity golf day, which will take place in Aberdour Golf Club on Friday 4th July, will close this Friday, 2nd May.

As ever it will be oversubscribed so if you would like to attend, email BlantyreKev and Taggsy at cqnopen10IAR@gmx.co.uk before Friday.  Cost for the full day’s entertainment including golf is £80.  There are a very limited number of non-golfer evening places at £45.  Further detail will be released nearer the date and when places confirmed.

Over the course of the season I’ve read lots of comment about the values we should aspire to as a club, specifically when it comes to alleviating poverty, both in our own community, and abroad.  CQN’ers responded incredibly to our Malawi school kichen(s) appeal, which dwarfed our work at home.

The Charity Foundation are selling badges (£1 each) before the Dundee United game on 11 May to raise funds to feed the poor and hungry in and around Glasgow.  I have volunteered as a coordinator on the day and have offered to help recruit around 100 to sell badges before the game.

This will be trophy presentation day – but the trophy isn’t coming out until after the game, so you’ll not miss any of the flesh-on-silver action.

If you are able to get involved in this initiative, which strikes the core of what we think of ourselves as a Movement, email your details to cfcfvolunteer@celticfc.co.uk .

Thank you.

Schade.

Don’t know the difference between a nook and a cranny but I do know the difference between a crook and a nanny.

  3. Having just read the record so called story a few things struck me.

    1) How desperate they have become

    2) They use the words ” a celtic source”

    3) That the celtic source and presumably the daily record believe that celtic players should be banned from NI and definately banned from the falls road

    4) That appearing with a singer is a criminal offence and therefore newsworthy.

If I was PL I would two things.

    1) Ask the DR publicly to name the celtic source (assuming of course it didnt come from celtic officially – which I doubt)

    2) Ask the DR publicly why it is wrong for celtic players to be in NI or the falls road or to appear with singers etc

I would look forward to the answers………

CELTIC have been alerted to the availability of Austrian captain Marc Janko following his departure from Trabzonspor.

The 30 year-old is available on a free transfer having negotiated an early exit from his contract with the Turkish side.

The striker was linked with Celtic four years ago during Gordon Strachan’s reign and was given a tour of the stadium by current Celtic manager Neil Lennon.

Janko was valued at £5m in 2009 however he was convinced to stay with Salzburg by the Austrian club’s owner’s Red Bull.

The Austrian international is represented by agent Rob Jansen who has made the Parkhead club aware of his availability.

The former Salzburg player has also had spells at Porto and FC Twente and has scored 107 goals in 199 league games.

He said: “If I was to get the chance to talk to Celtic I would be interested.

“I first came to speak to them a few years ago for two days of meetings when I was at Salzburg.

“I was in Glasgow to meet Gordon Strachan in 2009 but I always remember meeting with Mr Lennon at the same time. I got on well with him.

“I was given a tour of the city, taken to the stadium which was fantastic and I could just imagine how it would be full.

“But for reasons not really to do with Celtic, more to do with the agreement I had with Salzburg, the move did not happen.

“I had already given my word to the owner of Red Bull I would stay with this club for one more season.

“After that one year I moved to Twente in Holland and had a good time and then Porto made an offer I couldn’t resist. “Unfortunately things have not worked out for me since.”

The very fact that the DR is as anti Celtic and pro Sevco like never before, really tells its own story. They’ve sussed that much of the plummeting sales is probably down to timmy not buying any more. The sensible thing to do is to try and ramp up sales to the other side by pandering more and more to them. Hence Jack Irvine and Jabba given the remit to herd in their laptop puppies and tell them what to print. Someone on here who works in the press game, posted a while back saying that people will not buy their favourite newspaper if they see bad news headlines. Thats how it works. There’s been nothing but constant bad (or good) news coming out of Govan for the last 3 years but the worse it gets (and my god its the story of the century), the heavier the ‘LG racist’, ‘AS in republican shame’, ‘Battle of Dundee’ and ‘Destruction of Fir park’ gets.

As long as its Celtic who are the punchbags its fine.

    Dont buy it, ban it!

We as a club and as supporters need to learn not to bite when photos are shown of players in there free time unless they are breaking the law.In the cases of Griffiths and Stokes I dont think either were breaking any laws so they should be ignored if we dont ignore the we will forever receive these kind of pics but if the club and supporters ignore them the folk that send them will get fed up and we may get some pieace. I have to agree with those who dont want us to sign Janko he is 30 years old and is looking imo for one last payment to top up his pension pot he is not for me.Increase Sammis offer and get him to sign a new contract is a much better option. H.H.

Many on here have said that a plc ownership model is not ideal for Celtic because it causes a conflict of interest between shareholders and fans of the “Celtic” ethos.

    What alternative would you propose?

I am no great fan of the plc model because it does force Celtic into compromises with some dodgy characters and businesses such as Sky, the DR etc.

    —————————————————————

Well, I like the idea of a Membership Scheme for a start. It has already been well-documented on these pages by other more-informed posters (Auldheid or The Battered Bunnet?) and I think it is something that should be looked at seriously. A membership scheme provides a revenue stream to the club that is not currently there. It allows those of us who are Celtic fans but would not be able to attend games to contribute to the club – particularly those overseas. It also allows us to engage with fans more. Anything the size of Celtic cannot be run by committee so we would still need a hierarchy, but a new structure could be created that takes the fan’s views into account. Currently there is a massive disconnect.

Like anything else in life, there are pros and cons to every proposal. The advantage of the current PLC model is that it allows us to raise capital on the markets if we need money for big projects. But by-and-large it is fans who buy those shares anyway – only they have little say once their money is handed over. I would like to see more fan involvement in the running of the organisation. That is what is currently causing the disconnect.

Good post. You’re jumping the gun a wee bit with LG though, there’s still an investigation taking place.

I don’t see any point in banning these dafties from Parkhead, they’re going to write their stories regardless. We need to make the rest of the Celtic support appreciate that the way to harm them is to simply stop buying them.

I think if we can get an experienced front man in then we should do it. Injuries will play a part next season as they always do and I doubt Watt will be back at Celtic Park. I certainly doubt he will be near the first team. I hope I am wrong because the Bhoy is a player. You are proposing going into a new season with 2 main strikers and two kids as back up with a project player who has played about 2 full games all season? You really think that is enough for an assault on domestic and European football?

If Samaras doesn’t stay we need a player of similar experience and standing. I think the players you have mentioned have less than 3 goals in Europe between them.

Pukki could come into the reckoning but I suspect he will be used in the same position as Commons or in a wing position.

An experienced striker with European experience would be a welcome addition and if he is available for free then even better. I don’t know a lot about Janko but his stats look impressive.

I’m sure Neil Lennon will want to get a striker in who is used to playing on the big stage and has the experience to help our young team.

    Thanks for your reply.

I like the idea of a club membership, with those wishing to join paying say £50 per year. However, who would actually run the club on a day to day basis? At Barcelona, they have a presidential election every 3 years, I think. The candidates outline their vision or the club and the winner seems to be the guy who promises to spend the most on marquee signings. Such populism is not a sustainable model. Look at Barca’s debt.

How much “democracy” should we have?

I agree that there is a disconnect between our board and many of the fans but there must be a balance between accountability and letting well paid professionals get on with their work. Could you imagine the mischief from the Scottish media if there were to be elections for who was to run Celtic? It would be an open invitation for them to create massive divisions within our support every 3 years or so, and would discourage long term planning. There is no easy answer to this situation given the size and diversity of our support, but openness and respectful debate should be encouraged.
