Karagandy manager on Celtic and his own players

1898

Shakhtar Karagandy Russian manager, Viktor Kumykov, gave an interview after their elimination of the Albanian champions in the last Champions League qualifier.  He talked about his team, which, unlike some in former Soviet countries, does not have an oligarch benefactor or rich sponsor.

Kumykov thought four of his potential opponents were of equal standing, although he clearly respects Celtic’s recent achievements in the Champions League.

He said, “Getting through to the play offs round is historical achievement for the club and for Kazakh football. We hope this is for the start and we would play in Europe regularly. Even if we don’t go to the Champions League, we will play in UEFA Europa League, which means we will be in the elite of the European football.

“We have made it to the group stage of one of the European competitions, which was our main target. It does not mean we can rest now and say we will not fight for more, but our main target is Cup of Kazakhstan. We have never won it before.

“From a football perspective, I think it might be better for us to be in the Europa League than the Champions League. If we go through to the Champions League we will play against much better teams, where we can meet giant clubs. For this we would need to buy few players to strengthen the team. We short of depth and players I have at the moment would not cope with big competitions. I have no experienced players.

“It’s difficult to say who against I want to play. All five teams are better than us. Celtic is different story, they are apart from the others. That team played in the Champions League last season and got through to the knock out round. They beat Barcelona. They beat Spartak Moscow away and at home.

“The Other four are all similar class one to each other but they are all stronger than us. Each of them play at a higher level. The team God gives us will be the team we will play against. It makes no sense to say who we want.”

One player in recentish times who I would love to have had in The Hoops is Denis Bergkamp.

But I’m glad he isn’t with us now-he’d have had to set off last week to get to the first leg in time!

Tricky….I just feel we are still getting up to speed as a team and more challenge in advance of the game the better – I’d take your view if we were mid season and operating at full flow. My worry is that key players (like Sammi/ Commons) need to get match fit quick…

As we both know – Lenny the best man to decide – we’ll see how he plays it

    Hope you are well!

Apparently, they are due to submit audited interim accounts by Sept ….. Full year due Feb 14

  5. Not good by all accounts few nights ago..seems the board willing to risk spending money until we reach group stage.

    Hardly surprising.

Has kelvin officially left yet ?

I dont remember any bad reports on moyolouko during pre season, why not play him with kelvin or mulgrew until virgil fit.

Ambrose is clearly a liabilty. People say he is not a centre half, people say hes not a centre mid. Hes been awful in both since january. Right back maybe his best spot. We have cover there.

    Get rid i reckon.

Striker or 2 and centre half quickly please.

    Happy with the draw.

Section 111 story ? Tired and disgusted thinking about if.

Vmhan post was hard to take. True celts who support the team alot more than a majority who moan there way through matches then come on internet and do same.

what do you mean the khazaks will be googling Glasgow?

I was in Karagandy one time. I went to the train station and asked for a single to Glasgow. The ticket guy said…’Queen street or the Central’

  7. I think it’s a very bad mindset for us to start to use the phrase ” the league’s won anyway” so it doesn’t matter if we lose to Aberdeen etc etc…Celtic should be going out to perform at their best level every game and to win every game, the idea that we won’t take the Aberdeen game seriously will probably only gain currency on here, can’t see Neil seeing it like that..

“There was a transfer window last January.”

Would you have been on here praising Celtic for selling Wanyama and Hooper in January ahead of the Champions League games with Juventus and the team still in four competitions?

Given the lack of activity in the January window – where do you think we would have found replacements who would have hit the ground running in January?

    ———–

“In addition to that the players can be lined up at any time, they just can’t sign the paperwork until the transfer window”

That makes no difference to actually settling in at a new club and a new environment. Kelvin Wilson agreed to join us in January and he didn’t arrive until June – he didn’t settle at the club for a year.

Just had a call from relatives in Carrownaganonagh near Milford in Donegal.

They reckoned that Highland Radio reception was not very good, but they thought that it had just been announced that Celtic were coming over there to play in 2 weeks time.

Would any of the family be coming over for the game ?

  14. CultsBhoy

    Fine thanks.

I sort of agree, but, and always a but, these are professional footballers we are talking about, they should be fit, a couple of weeks off should not impact on their overall fitness.

Without the CL games, the season is a bit of a let down for many, the hun games were a major part of our season prior to their death, and I reckon that the majority of supporters actually miss the games against them.

CQN is not reflective of the majority of the support.

I am not going to lie and say I didn’t enjoy the games against them, the build up was electric, even on here, I loved beating them, hated it when we lost, in saying that, I never want to play them again.

So the CL games are vital for the support imo, the Europa League is not a patch on them.

As you say, Lenny will decide, and I reckon he will play his strongest team in Aberdeen.

    HH

  15. Yes I thought Wanyama a very good player, but not to the extent we are a lot weaker without him.He played well against Barca, but so did every other player.Really never ever witnessed him actually taking a game by the scruff of the neck, and winning it for us.His passing was on many occasions, slack. We can compensate by moving Efe into the middle with Ledley and Broony. The CH position is covered.Dick Van Dyke,Myokoulo,Charlie,Lustig. We can not afford better than these. Our need is for a striker.Finbogasson should be bid for.Lets see if £4 million would do it.Cannot for the life of me see what the problem is.We are talking about £20 million taken in and £8 million spent, not counting CL money.

Qualifying again would put us in an unbelievable financial position, especially when you consider that probably 3 of the signings would increase their value over a 3 year period.

  16. The Battered Bunnet on

Don’t think Ambrose has the wherewithal to cut it in midfield for Celtic.

The problem is, he plays the centre half position as if he’s in midfield…

  17. Alfie Finboggasson or Jelle Vossen. Get it sorted!!

Should have cash to afford transfer fee, surley !!

  18. There will beno problems for fans wishing to go to the first leg….if BRTH’s father gets to handle the arrangements.

Can’t disagree with your assessment..IF we get into the CL, there will be many very good strikers jumping at the chance to join us, and we will get good value … Meanwhile, the Board are being careful (Justifiably)

If we sign Finbogasson,we might as well tell Balde and Stokes to look for new clubs.

That is unlikely, but you never know.

Balde,in particular, has to be given a chance. And I don’t mean a few minutes here and there where he tries too hard to impress.

He was clearly bought for a reason,to suit a game plan. We shoooorly haven’t thrown that oot the windae already?!

Btw,I think he is ideal for the Scottish game-love to have seen Boughera or Weir try to bully him….

NL said he might need 2 strikers in to replace Hooper ,Doyle and possibly Sharp (hope not).Doyle 1.5mil,Sharp 1 mil for arguments sake +2 salaries.Buy 1 very good striker for 3-4 mil instead. The 2.5 mil for Wilson is money we didn’t expect, add a wee bit to that and get someone who will help us get to the CL.

  28. CQN Saturday Naps

Lads, for all the mug-punters out there…

the CQN Naps competition resumes again this Saturday, and hopefully green T will be around to defend his crown.

In order to confirm your entry, please send me an e-mail stating your CQN username to : fleagle29 at ymail.com

After that, the RULES are relatively simple :

    a) each Saturday log onto the last page of the previous CQN article.

    b) post only ONE ‘nap’ selection from any major Saturday horserace meeting (e.g. UK, Ireland, Dubai)

    c) if your selection is a Non-Runner, you may select an alternative – as long as it also runs on the Saturday.

    d) if your nap wins, you will “win” the hypothetical profit from a £1 stake @ Starting Prices (S.P.)

e.g. selection wins at 9/4, your hypothetical profit is +£2.25

e.g. selection wins at 5/1, your hypothetical profit is +£5.00

    e) if your nap loses or if you fail to post a selection, you will “lose” your £1 hypothetical stake (-£1)

    f) if you want to join the competition late (e.g. in Week 3) you will be allocated 2 losers, and will start the competition from (-£2)

    g) Our winner and CQN Naps Champion Tipster will be the CQN punter who shows the greatest overall profit during the season.

Last season the competition lasted for 43 weeks, and green T was the champion tipster, with +£21.35 profit

    Happy punting everyone…

    :o)
