Keane asks not to be considered

1184

Reports out of Ireland that Roy Keane is no longer in the running for the Celtic job are correct.  The former Sunderland and Ipswich boss asked not to be considered as Celtic have tightened their shortlist over the past few days.

The overwhelming majority of opinion on the blog and elsewhere is that Celtic would be taking an enormous risk with Roy Keane, feedback which I know has reached the club.  These decision are all risky, and there are no guarantees we will be able to do better than Roy, but I’d be prepared to take that risk.

Let me know if you would like to attend the CQN Question and Answer evening at the Manor Club, Wimbledon, on 21 June, with a confirmed line-up of Lisbon Lion, John Hughes, and our own Brogan Rogan and Auldheid, celticquicknews@gmail.com

Visit the CQN Bookstore to get Tommy Gemmell to sign your personal copy of his tome, All the Best.

  1. Keane would have been told that the Celtic job was a fulltime position, which meant he would have to give up the ROI job and the pundit job. In addition, this would have meant him taking on a job with real responsibilities where the buck really did stop with him. Not knocking him as he is looking after himself.

Less money, more responsibility, more aggravation – was not what he wanted for himself and his family..

Not the right man for the job obviously, and glad he made his feelings known.

GCT, good on you pal. You seem happy with your lot.

Maybe catch up with you at one of Mr winklepickers famous hootenanny’s in the future, or a few drams at the society on Queens Road / Leith.

    Take your doctor’s advice Tom:-)

  3. So, back to the vacancy.

    How about Henke then?

Has that been completely ruled out of the question? I don’t think so.

    Do it Dermot.

Friends of mine saw him in Kelso during a tour of Scotland about 2/3 years ago. He was drunk, slurring his words and could not be bothered. Zero interaction with the audience. They were not at all impressed and reckoned it was a waste of their money & time.

Glad to see he has woken up.

KK, sorry. Not trying to be cryptic. Your pal kojo posted about a year ago how unacceptable it was for Celtic players to have tattoo’s. That’s about as sensible as saying its unacceptable for them to be gay, Asian, or be football players.

Utterly irrelevant to most but just something I picked up on when I unfortunately read a post of his someone had cut and pasted.

Yep, gave Paulo a big Hail Hail, got a big smile and clenched fist in return. St Pauli T shirt on display in his band as well.

  12. ACGR –

    Thanks mate.

I was at my doctor’s surgery last Thursday. He was giving me a report to give to my new GP in Edinburgh. In preparation for that consultation, I had a number of blood tests plus urine.

He started off by telling me that all my results were fantastic and that I should be very pleased, which I am. He told me just to keep taking the medication and to continue to watch what I eat and drink and carry on with the regular exercise and I will enjoy my retirement for many years to come.

So yes, I certainly do follow what my doc says and I never miss my medication.

    Makes sense tae me.

I must confess to being ran absolutely ragged in the past few days and have about 80 pages to read back to find out what is going on in the world and so I have no idea about the state of play in anything.

The only thing I can say with total certainty is that if life goes on like this for much longer than I am totally banjaxed!

And with that I am off to the bed but before I go here is one of my favourite pieces of Hollywood which seems apposite at this moment.

BRTH, sorry you’re ragged. You’ll be pleased to know “forrest fire” now has pride of place in young acgr’s den / room / dungeon, call it what you will.

In September when he buggers off to uni it’s going on tour. Ms Doc is having it for the remainder of next season and then the Cowiebhoy bar. After that it’s Kelvingrove or the Tate. They’re fighting over the detail.

  28. I was listening to Radio National (Australia) last night. One of their people interviewed Maya Angelou just three weeks before she died. Part of that interview was broadcast last night, the full interview to be aired in a couple of weeks.

During the interview, she claimed to have Scottish blood coursing through her veins and revealed that she is a big fan of Rabbie Burns and in fact, taught Burns to hundreds of kids while teaching in Africa. She described how a Scots missionary taught her the Scots accent and she passed it on to her pupils, insisting that they recite the Bard in the “true Scottish tongue”.

She then proceeded to recite A Man’s a Man for Aw That in a very convincing Scottish accent.

It made for fascinating listening and finished off my day perfectly. I’ll have left Australia when the full interview is broadcast, but I intend to seek it out online.

I remember attending a lecture/recital of hers in New York City in the late 90s.

What an artist. What a woman. What a human being.

    RIP Maya Angelou
