King: if we lose the tax case then we probably gained some competitive advantage

1124

Newco chairman, Dave King, this evening issued a remarkable statement.  Not for the first time he referenced Celtic, but on this occasion, he became the first person inside the game to put the Stripping of Titles Rangers won during their EBT and DOS years on the table.

His statement also blankly contradicted an earlier statement he made, when he asserted, “I follow the logic of the argument that if we lose the tax case then we probably gained some competitive advantage.”

With the tax case lost, and many fair-minded agreeing with his earlier sentiment and calling for titles to be stripped, however, today King said:

“Whether the scheme was in place or not, or whether it survived tax scrutiny or not, made no difference whatsoever to the playing squad of the Club during that period and hence had no impact on the performance on the pitch.”

That’s:

“If we lose the tax case then we probably gained some competitive advantage.”
Followed by:

“Had no impact on the performance on the pitch.”

“Competitive advantage.”

“No impact on the performance.”

In 2012 he even issued an apology and suggested “commercial reparation to the other clubs” was in order.

“Reparation” because “if we lose the tax case” we “gained some competitive advantage”.

In five years he moved from saying Rangers gained a competitive advantage because of the illegal EBT use, and commercial reparations to other clubs was due, to denying any wrongdoing whatsoever.

He should also have read the Celtic statement more carefully.  King today said Celtic, “have attempted to influence the footballing authorities to alter its historic football honours”.

Celtic’s statement called merely for a review, “We are sure now that the footballing authorities in Scotland will wish to review this matter. Celtic awaits the outcome of their review.”

The altering of football honours issue was not put on the table by our club – you can thank Dave King for that thought provoking notion.

Who’s Behind The SMSM ‘No Appetite’ Mantra?

Since the Supreme Court made their ruling on Wednesday morning that Rangers were guilty of using EBT’s illegally, there has been a real concerted effort by most, not all, of the hacks in the Scottish Mainstream Sports Media to convince the public there’s ‘no appetite’ for the stripping of titles.

That despite various clubs, and their fans issuing statements to the contrary, and a number of social media and online polls all showing massively in favour of some sort of recourse.

To make their stance more convincing, they’ve asked to opinions of either conflicted individuals or those who stand to lose from any title stripping.

Ally McCoist, Gordon Smith are but two former employees of the Oldco who’s opinion has been sought, yet those who were cheated have been totally ignored.

BBC in particular are keen to reprint statements from Club 1872 and the chairman of Sevco but won’t even comment on the response from the Celtic Trust or Dundee United’s Arab Trust, both representing members who paid good money to see their respective teams cheated.

If Chris McLaughlin told us once, he must have told us a dozen times, the clubs have ‘no appetite’ for title stripping. Same as in 2012 he told us the clubs would be happy to let Sevco into the top division. How did that work out Chris?

So, what I and probably many more fans would like to know, just who is behind this ‘no appetite’ agenda?

I’m sure we’ve all got our own ideas…..

There is another one on the UEFA Licence process in 2011 which will be just as time consuming to read, but will provide the same rewards in terms of understanding the issues.

Timing and method of release under consideration.

Lets see how many follow the LNS narrative.

Some force is obviously at play that editors are obeying.

About 30 months ago the Daily Record journo/sub editor was provided with a narrative similar to that in my previous post. He had it laid out on a plate broken into 4 paras but still found reason not to publish.

Then the TOG Report has been ignored by all but Speirs, so its either the Masons or pictures of some press personnel molesting goats, although fear of the mob should not be ruled out.

    Auldheid,

Whatever is driving the Omerta that has polluted the MSM, the result will be the same.

    No further action.

It would take a massive protest from every corner of the Scottish football world to alter that position.

With ST money already banked, there is little chance of any protest succeeding.

    Bunkers will be fortified.

However, Celtic will be made the scapegoat for damaging the game. It is already being done, by incorrect reporting of Celtic’s stance and non reporting of the truth.

Should this continue or escalate, then I believe that we would have a case to present to UEFA citing the conditions that the club has been placed and the difficulties we would have in safely conducting our business.

Regular fans of my posts(!) will recognise this as the DC option.

Can I ask another stupid question

Why is it only trophies won from 2001 for the cheats ?

Their scheme as run from 1998 was already found to be illegal – a fact kept from LNS

Surely any review must go back to the beginning

    So what was also won from1998 – 2001/2 ???

    =====================

The first ebt (DOS was used in Sept 1999 for Moore and there was no side letter either although scheme was unlawful without one. So season 1999/20000 would be start date. That takes in their title and Scottish Cup win in 2000 before the sainted MoN arrived and matching their wages put a stop to their nonsense until 2003 when EBT use accelerated as they moved from DOS/wtc ebts to BTC ebts.

The cost of matching their wages of course resulted in the downsizing of Celtic’s in 2004 who under Strachan did well to win 3 titles but they went on another spending binge in 2008 as the BTC determinations (estimates of tax owed) arrived in the post and the bank crash happened.

Had they kent then wit we ken noo. :)

Martin Samuel references the Supreme Court verdict in his Daily Mail column today, not for the first time either.

I doubt much will be heard of from the SMSM so hopefully one of the Southern hacks will have a go at it. Though I think that will only happen if and when HMRC get tough with an English club.

  20. thomthethim for Oscar OK on 10th July 2017 12:44 am

The media can present any twisted version of reality they like but it does not change reality.

Celtic have enough info as result of Res12 research apart from BTC decision and consequences to go legal if they want.

I watched a video of Fergus earlier mocking the rule that said clubs could not take their cases to court. He was right and he won. https://twitter.com/CelticRuleOK/status/883779046903042048

The cost to Celtic of not fighting the club’s corner whilst not measured in £s this season will seriously damage the idea that Celtic are more than a club. It is an idea that does make us different in a good way.

    That idea is priceless.

Cornish terror group claims responsibility for fire at Rick Stein’s restaurant

    Yahoo News UK9 July 2017

A Cornish terror group has claimed responsibility for firebombing a restaurant owned by Rick Stein, claiming it is part of a campaign for Cornish independence.

The Cornish Republican Army (CRA), dubbed the ‘Ooh R A’, says it carried out the attack in June as part of a renewed campaign to prevent the “ethnic cleansing of the people of Kernow” and also said it has a member who is “prepared to pay the ultimate price in the battle for Kernow”.
