King: if we lose the tax case then we probably gained some competitive advantage

1124

Newco chairman, Dave King, this evening issued a remarkable statement.  Not for the first time he referenced Celtic, but on this occasion, he became the first person inside the game to put the Stripping of Titles Rangers won during their EBT and DOS years on the table.

His statement also blankly contradicted an earlier statement he made, when he asserted, “I follow the logic of the argument that if we lose the tax case then we probably gained some competitive advantage.”

With the tax case lost, and many fair-minded agreeing with his earlier sentiment and calling for titles to be stripped, however, today King said:

“Whether the scheme was in place or not, or whether it survived tax scrutiny or not, made no difference whatsoever to the playing squad of the Club during that period and hence had no impact on the performance on the pitch.”

That’s:

“If we lose the tax case then we probably gained some competitive advantage.”
Followed by:

“Had no impact on the performance on the pitch.”

“Competitive advantage.”

“No impact on the performance.”

In 2012 he even issued an apology and suggested “commercial reparation to the other clubs” was in order.

“Reparation” because “if we lose the tax case” we “gained some competitive advantage”.

In five years he moved from saying Rangers gained a competitive advantage because of the illegal EBT use, and commercial reparations to other clubs was due, to denying any wrongdoing whatsoever.

He should also have read the Celtic statement more carefully.  King today said Celtic, “have attempted to influence the footballing authorities to alter its historic football honours”.

Celtic’s statement called merely for a review, “We are sure now that the footballing authorities in Scotland will wish to review this matter. Celtic awaits the outcome of their review.”

The altering of football honours issue was not put on the table by our club – you can thank Dave King for that thought provoking notion.

“Bought and sold for English gold”. Scotland. the SFA, SPL, SFL….. they have all sunk further than the depths of Hell. Quid est veritas?

  2. CELTIC have warned Stuart Armstrong that they won’t be held to ransom after contract talks stalled.

Brendan Rodgers is on the verge of signing Manchester City midfielder Olivier Ntcham in a deal worth up to £5million.

The Celtic manager is also keen to tie down key man Armstrong to a new long-term contract, but an agreement hasn’t yet been reached.

SunSport understands his agent will need to be more realistic with their demands, though Celtic are aware that English pair Brighton and Southampton are keen on the £10m-rated Scotland midfielder.

Hoops chiefs are willing to sanction a wage rise and an extension for the Scotland star, who has 12 months left to run on his current deal.

They believe they have made a fair offer to Armstrong, whose career has been transformed by Rodgers in the last year after he only became a regular in November.

Talks are likely to resume but Celtic will not be forced into paying over the odds in wages, especially as Rodgers has plenty of options in the middle of the park.

French kid Ntcham is finalising his Celtic move after a medical and teen Kundai Benyu has impressed since joining from Ipswich.

Tom Rogic and Callum McGregor can also play the attacking-midfield role that Armstrong does but Rodgers wants to keep the Scotland international and last week urged him to stay put.

Meanwhile, SunSport can reveal City kid Ntcham’s four-year deal could eventually hit the £5m mark, with a £4.5m fee being paid upfront and £500k in add-ons.

Can’t see it appinin noo but if it did! If it did I would be happy. I’d be really happy. So happy I’d be happy to let scottish fitba heal and my appetite for title stripping would diminish.

Ok. I’d maybe not be that happy but I’d still be happy likes. :-@)))

  6. Any Scottish football fan who steps….

one foot inside, any Scottish football stadium….

without any clarity about, punishments to be…

dealt oot tae the cheating huns, isn’t just asking…

but is, SCREAMING to be cheated again….

and, when it happens you’ll have deserved everything…

that you get. Even if you’ve paid for your season ticket…

let the clubs know that, this season will be your last…

until justice is seen to be done.

Better still, if you pay by direct debit, threaten to cancel.

Its a shame in the way that the timings have worked out…

but, for me, the huns will get relegated this year, and that….

makes the PLC’s next moves, very interesting when you consider…

the PLC’s, old firm orientation ?

Hopefully, the PLC will be cute until, Linfield in Belfast is oot the way.

After that, it should be game on, hopefully.

    Just bear this in mind……

if the huns get forced oot the league….

within a year, Celtic’s gates will start to fall….

how long will Brendan hing aboot ?

    Anyway,….

    …..off-oot.

  7. Says Hail Hail to Hector..and still believes in Brendan on

  9. The most appropriate course of action would be for SFA or UEFA on SFA’s behalf to provide independant review by external FA, with no limits on time or scope of RFC improperly registered footballers. Maybe EFA or Portuguese FA or FA of NI. :-@))

  10. Apologies if this was discussed already over the weekend. I noticed a newish (well new to me anyway) account on twitter called @Carn_Rock. The account was making claims about wealthy Celtic shareholders already engaging legal representation regarding the cheating years and there was no need for fans to crowd fund any legal representation at all.

Now I’m not going to say that this guy is talking rubbish – I don’t know. However, after what we have seen in relation to elections, referendums and media reaction after major events/disasters, we should remember that a key tool for those that wish to control the narrative is to use social media to disrupt and divert discussion, through in red herrings and publish fake news. What if a goal of such people was to fool supporters into doing nothing?

I’m not saying that this account is a fake, I am just saying treat it with some healthy scepticism. I have never seen this account and I spend what is probably too much time on twitter. So for him to come out of nowhere with sensational stories about Celtic shareholders that he is in contact with spearheading the legal effort without any need for fans to do anything rings a few alarm bells. I see Barcabhoy was also querying this account.

It doesn’t mean what he is saying is false, but just keep asking yourself “what is the angle here?” because at some point there is going to be some fake news thrown in to try to disrupt the process.

We’ll be scouting out a bar for Friday’s game. I later saw him chatting with another guy. Looks like we’ve got a wee community forming :-))

Any advice on local bars showing the game would be much appreciated.
