King: if we lose the tax case then we probably gained some competitive advantage

1124

Newco chairman, Dave King, this evening issued a remarkable statement.  Not for the first time he referenced Celtic, but on this occasion, he became the first person inside the game to put the Stripping of Titles Rangers won during their EBT and DOS years on the table.

His statement also blankly contradicted an earlier statement he made, when he asserted, “I follow the logic of the argument that if we lose the tax case then we probably gained some competitive advantage.”

With the tax case lost, and many fair-minded agreeing with his earlier sentiment and calling for titles to be stripped, however, today King said:

“Whether the scheme was in place or not, or whether it survived tax scrutiny or not, made no difference whatsoever to the playing squad of the Club during that period and hence had no impact on the performance on the pitch.”

That’s:

“If we lose the tax case then we probably gained some competitive advantage.”
Followed by:

“Had no impact on the performance on the pitch.”

“Competitive advantage.”

“No impact on the performance.”

In 2012 he even issued an apology and suggested “commercial reparation to the other clubs” was in order.

“Reparation” because “if we lose the tax case” we “gained some competitive advantage”.

In five years he moved from saying Rangers gained a competitive advantage because of the illegal EBT use, and commercial reparations to other clubs was due, to denying any wrongdoing whatsoever.

He should also have read the Celtic statement more carefully.  King today said Celtic, “have attempted to influence the footballing authorities to alter its historic football honours”.

Celtic’s statement called merely for a review, “We are sure now that the footballing authorities in Scotland will wish to review this matter. Celtic awaits the outcome of their review.”

The altering of football honours issue was not put on the table by our club – you can thank Dave King for that thought provoking notion.

    Auldheid,

I am fully behind Celtic in whatever way they see fit to act.

My convoluted point was, in the face of the expected backlash, we would have a case for seeking an exit from Scottish football, similar to the reasons for Derry City’s invitation to the League of Ireland.

Even though other clubs join with us, we would be accredited with being the driving force in “punishing” them.

Thanks for the tip-off. Seems we owe The so-called diddy clubs a huge debt of gratitude for having the courage to stand up to the lies and blackmail of Doncaster and co.

Absolutely. We all remember that a lot of underhand stuff was going on but we tend to forget all the gory details as time goes by. It’s helpful to read back at some of this stuff. When you realise you forgot half of what actually went on it is quite staggering ….all over again…

I watched a game in Sorrento pub years ago.

I think it might be called Chaplin’s. The only problem might be the fact that it’s on Premier.

  12. I have yet to see the media contacting or talking to any player that was cheated, apart from the souptakers that is, it’s all don’t take our titles etc, yet Tims will still buy their papers, still hand over their money, still support the corrupt game.

It takes all sorts I suppose.

Consultant informed that old knee to be saved and reused.

One left knee (no cartalege and worn bone) will be donated to he who provides me with the best reason not to punish Rangers/Sevco no more and he who does not have an appetite for rewarding Rangers with 3-0 for every game the played with improperly registered cheats.

Thanks for best wishes to all.

Its an idea that might still surface.”

Good that it’s still on the cards, I read a piece you did on this before, sounds promising but to be honest I didn’t “get” the technicalities… though understood enuff to see you have to be a Football Club to become a member of an Association and Obtain a licence to participate in a Football Competition.

A Football Club is a Legal Entity that controls a Football Team.

  16. Amazing really, we have had Res 12 where after our bhoys delving into things sussed out that the huns were not entitled a licence, it took a lot of hard work and my thanks goes out to them big time.

Yet only a few short weeks ago the same sfa gave the new huns a licence to play in europe even though they failed to pass the first hurdle by not having audited accounts and adhering to uefa’s FFP criteria, I have been bowled over by the silence on this matter.

The sfa are telling you to ef off, they will do what they want and there’s not a thing you can do about it.

Justice in scotland for Celtic, don’t make me laugh.

I mentioned over the weekend that Dave King had made public statements TWICE in the last year that should have precluded Sevco from getting a Euro licence. It is really ubelieveable that there hasn’t been a peep from Hearts.

No wonder the G51 club’s QC in the wee tax case told them to not contest the case due to evidence proving their guilt.

I think it would be fair to say that we have to thank Murray’s signing of Boumsong then his move to Newcastle in the follwing transfer window for Murray’s dodgy tax dealings at Ibrox to be exposed. The City of London police’s investigation into football agent’s , Barry ? Mackay (Boumsong’s agent at the time) financial matters , particularly at Portsmouth , set the ball rolling.

Armstrong would be very silly to leave Celtic at this moment in time, but if he really wants to then good luck to him.

He is represented by Liam O’Donnell who is a lawyer that works in partnership with PFA Scotland. If this is the advice they are giving players then that is worrying.
