Kris, Nielson on opinions, careless cautions

731

Player who has been out since April in shock Uefa squad omission. The only surprise about Kris Commons and Uefa lists is that he was included for the earlier rounds, despite not pulling on a Celtic shirt since April through injury. He was there because there was space on the A list. He’s now been omitted because we signed Scott Sinclair and Brendan Rodgers needed to remove one name to keep his options open for a wildcard.

Kris’ chances of being fit enough to play are less than Patrick Roberts’ so his name came off the list.

I don’t habitually dig up managers at other clubs, but Robbie Nielson is testing the limits of incredulity. When asked about Scott Brown calling Jamie Walker a cheat, he said “If you have got an opinion on anything you are better just keeping it to yourself.”

This is the guy who can’t shut his mouth about referees, including an incident last season when he thought action should have been taken against……. Scott Brown.

Robbie, if you can dish it out but you can’t take it, maybe you are better just keeping your stray opinions to yourself.

We collected four yellow cards at Tynecastle: Gordon, Brown, Dembele and Sinclair. None of them incurred incurred when the ball was in play. Craig Gordon’s was for not going to his line at the Hearts penalty, Moussa Dembele’s was for knocking the ball away, Scott Sinclair’s was for running into the crowd after scoring a debut goal (he’s knew, he should learn, but it’s a clear yellow card) and Scott Brown’s for dissent.

If we’re going to tot up cautions, we should at least do it during play when there is some advantage to be won. Four conceded carelessly off the ball is unusual and could cost us later in the season.

Scott Brown in particular should take note, that was his second caution of the season for dissent, the first coming in Astana. Scott’s a hugely important player to Celtic, previous absences from Europe due to off-the-ball indiscretions should be acting as an inhibitor at this stage of his career.

I can’t say I’m all that pleased with the unpredictability.

I’m all for changing certain personnel for certain games against certain opponents but the quicker we get a settled (ish) side the better.

    Delighted at Tom’s contract extension.

Players with his talents should always be accommodated in football.

His deceptively languid style reminds me of Riquelme, Bless his skill.

Half of that would be a major asset to the squad.

Can’t wait for the school holidays to be over and the juveniles who infested the blog last night are tucked up early in their beds. I only hope, for their sakes, that their mammies don’t read CQN.

  4. Brendan seems to have given the squad back its confidence as well as adding a few with quality. I think Brendan is a really good man manager, So far everything he has done has made sense. When other people were moaning about him not spending I was happy he wasn’t. He is still assessing the squad and working with what he has, Players like Johnasen don’t just become bad players, That same player is still in there and Brendan tries to find him again. Same with the younger players he has an eye for potential hence Eoghan.

Callum and Stuart getting games even though their form is poor just now, He is trying to get them back to their best.

Very Patient and calculated man is our Brendan.

Ciftci, GMS, Henderson, Aitchison, Ambrose, McGregor & Armstrong for example.

Brilliant at Middlesbrough but not made a mark else. Would be good backup but not convinced he would set the heather alight.

Yeah, I think Henderson and GMS both look certainties and maybe KC who knows? if he gets back to fitness I am not sure he is fast enough for Brendan but we will see. He is a threat and we need experience.

I think he will keep Christie to be honest I was surprised to see Allan go out on loan.

    Forrest Dembele Sinclair

Armstrong to replace McGregor in second half. Ciftci on for Forrest if we are a couple of goals up and switch to a 4-4-2.

Brendan to use a blue Bic pen and a Lyreco A5 notepad (no margin).

A bit harsh on Armstrong and McGregor. I think the form of both players has been up-and-down rather than poor.

They have both had one or two good to very good games amongst a couple of mediocre performances. Both worth persevering with, in my opinion.

  15. Geordie, I understand where you are coming from; however, it is a squad game now and with so many games coming up we need to ensure that we have enough players in the real first team squad capable of coming in and out and knowing their role. I think the defence is unsettled at the moment because we don’t have all our options fit, so we don’t know how that will pan out.

In the middle, we are, IMHO, a ‘digger’ short: that may be Johannsen or he may go to the market for one. I’m not yet convinced he knows his best options for operating the midfield, with the exceptions of his 2 out of 3 wide men and Broony in the middle.

The forward line takes care of itself, but we need another (better than Ciftci) player to cover and I don’t think Bamford is the answer. Possibly Robson-Kanu?

However, I think that 2 weeks tomorrow (after we take care of Be’er Shiva) we will see who the big signing will be. So a lot of it is speculation until then along with mixing the team up until the full squad is assembled and fit.

I’ve always had the same opinion of her as yourself Tam. Particularly when she was getting praised on here to high heaven for the Save The Children shirt “sponsorship” deal. The media seem to see her a a cross between Mother Teresa and Boudica. But as you know – she’s very selective about what she praises and condemns. No friend of ours.

Very true – very like Agathe. He also has the same issue Agathe had when he first arrived: what to do with the ball after you have skinned the man. If he works on delivery then he will be a really good player for us.

As I was saying, Good players don’t just become bad, McGregor has looked hesitant in past couple of weeks and Armstrong on left leaves him out of the game and poor Broony got the tun the midfield himself.

The thing is Tam, neither seem to try and get back into the game after 20 mins without the ball, Since the real games have started neither have had a good game, In both away legs in europe our midfield was missing with exception of Brown hence why Bitton changed the Astana game.

Brendan will persevere or replace them, Its up to them. But they will get the chance.

I hope to be proved wrong. Could have 4 youth players in our first team. Been a while since that happened. ;) Forrest kicks on after Sunday as well as Keiran Callum and Eoghan. Magic!

  24. Interesting comments on here regarding our thick colonial cousins.

I fear that they — majority view supported by the media — have a very inward looking viewpoint.

From experience they are always trying to talk up their very large piece of burnt rock.

They need to keep convincing themselves that it was a great idea to go and live in a country with 11 of the 10 most deadly poisonous species on Earth.

They are horrible to the original inhabitants.

They are horrible to to each other — trying to hide it using the concept of “mateship”.

Consequently no surprise that they are horrible to outsiders.

My only issue would be why stop at racism, add in sexism and then try misogyny.

Too many sheep, too many sheep.

I do love it when they try on the bad boy / convict stock angle.

They forget that in late 18th century Britain conditions were so bad that everybody was blagging.

They were the stupid 20% who got caught.

Then there’s Aussie Rules — what is that all about?

Grown men running about in singlets trying to play basketball without a hoop.

They are so last century it hurts — football, real football was “WogBall” up until the 80’s.

It took the Greeks and the various Slavs to educate them.

Too many blue collar wannabe landed gentry for my liking.

They have no understanding of the concept of humanity and it pollutes the public discourse.
