Last act of Ogilvie should be to call inquiry

901

The hours immediately after the First Tier Tribunal reports on Rangers use of Employee Benefits Trusts, which the BBC discovered is due this month, to loan money (!) to staff what happens at Hampden will be most interesting.  SFA president, Campbell Ogilvie, as a director, was legally responsible for Rangers when they started using EBTs and benefited from one himself but he has refused to resign and the SFA have declined to put him on gardening leave, pending a public investigation.

Instead, SFA chief executive, Stewart Regan, told press the Association had investigated Ogilvie’s contribution to the matter and found he had no case to answer, despite widespread scepticism that any investigation whatsoever was held into the president’s involvement in the issue.

If, despite protests from former Rangers directors that the club acted properly at all times, the FTT upholds the position of HMRC, that Rangers incorrectly failed to pay £94m tax, Ogilvie will surely walk (away), as the SFA will have to instigate disciplinary proceedings on the club which inherited Rangers membership, for deeds done while the president was in an executive position at Ibrox.

Even our new friend Charles Green would find it unpalatable that a man responsible for the subsequent penalty remains in charge of the body imposing the penalty.  We’ve said “Ogilvie will surely walk” before, of course, only to witness ever-higher standards of brass neck, but if he pauses for an hour before resigning, let it be to give those of us on the outside of the game what is needed, a full and independent inquiry into the game, how it is administered and controlled. Before the year is out we are likely to learn that our game was violated for more than a decade by people at the very top. A charlatan was expelled from the game earlier this year while the owner of a new club, without financial track record, is trying to raise millions from fans.

In any other European country, even Italy, the inquiry would already be under way.

  1. The corruption that currently paralyzes the hierarchies of the SFA , SPL , BBC,SNP and the Scottish Newspapers is mindboggling-the internet has exposed them all-but nothing changes because these rats have nowhere to run

We have come along way since St. Hunus Day. I was confident from then that HMRC would end them whilst they were on their knees and they delivered. All the the talk of CVAs, absolutely no chance, I posted then I smell liquid. Everything is still swishing about in the Liquidiser…the liquid will soon run out the Liquidiser.

I like many am frustrated at the length of time it has taken. Even before the decision was taken to liquidate them a knowledgeable friend found it hard to understand why the FTT had not delivered, In his opinion it was that they were researching the case law thoroughly before issuing their decision. Whilst he had no personal involvement in the decision to reject the CVA, he explained to me at length why it would fail. He is well placed to comment on such things, more so now in his current role.

On what will happen from the Footballing side of things, which arguably is the biggest crime, not the withholding of taxes, I am confident they will be found guilty and will have titles stripped, possibly more penalties,

I am also quietly confident sevco 5088 are not long for this world…

    Back shortly, my Pasta awaits.

    Oh dear.

I am Scottish through and through but the national team I can no longer warm too as it is representative of the SFA.

Never a fan, remember Paddy Crerand on History of Celtic DVD saying the wouldn’t pick Celtic players, then there’s the Lions, Kenny Dalglish and Kris Commons….just canny be bothered with them.

    Celtic for me….

  7. Whatever else happens today is for me irrelevant.

The smiling face of the Wee Celtic Giant giving the world a thumbs-up puts all else in perspective.

    God Bless Wee Oscar.

  8. Met my favourite ever Celt today at Seamill, Bobby Lennox. Been grinning like a wee daft Bhoy all afternoon. An absolute gentleman as I knew he would be. He also cleared up the source of his nickname for me ‘Lemon,’ it came from a newspaper misprint of Lennox.

Nearly forgot I had two weans in the swimming!

There is a strategy in place and that is to keep a sanitized version of them in the game.

Too many different bodies acting in concert.

  14. Seriously, shouldn’t we buy CG a loudhailer, the more he says, the worse he looks,as decent human beings,it’s our duty to assist Charles in any way we can.

The fine comb tooth pick analysing the law I dont buy it. Due to Lord Hodge report and Craig Whyte roofing being shelved.

Quite clearly UEFA and the ECA need to wait on the result of the FTT.

The fourth estate factions know this. SFA,SPL,Media,Courts,Police

At that point UEFA can start to get involved if they want to. If it is to their advantage. If UEFA has an EBT recipient it will be buried. UEFA will have no appetite to bring the SFA into line unless they are serious about FFP.

We have to wait but all the signs are a stitch up is on the cards.

Will the SFA accept a ten year European ban reduced to 5 on appeal knowing that Sevco cant compete anyway and only Celtic and Scotland stand to gain anyway.

If it preserves them and saves any of their own then after what we have seen so far nobody should have any doubts.

I had the pleasure of meeting the “buzz bomb” that is bobby Lennox before a CL GAME at CP many years ago in the corporate boxes and he was an absolute gent and all round class act indeed whilst talking to me and my mate The rep from SKY knocked on the door and told him they needed him downstairs now!!!

Bobby just smiled at her and said ok love two minutes I’m just havin a wee chat here…… I was totally starstruck and couldn’t believe he would chase her just to finish talking to us I rate him up alongside jinky in my all time Celtic list

I reckon a damage limitation excercise is what is holding the FTT up. Insigated by the SNP and bolstered by the SFA , SPL and SFL Scottish courts and Scottish police and media and NI after the shock of HMRC going liquid on the huns.

We are now in the latter half of October.

Still No FTT ….will it słip to the summer ?

know what you mean, but when compared to Jinky most players take a back seat and when you think about the Lisbon Lions the first name on most peoples lips is Jinky. BL enjoyed a relatively quiet life, celeb status and noteriety colour our memories, innit geez
